  1. I haven't seen anything relating RP. Not in the portal and apparently not talking either. Be interesting to see how he fits into the plan. For me, the most interesting aspect of the coming season is how our returning players react to a new coaching staff and philosophy. For better or worse, I think CMW will be a compassionate, no nonsense coach. Maybe a softer, less profane version of Coach Bob Knight. Coach Knight called him a disciplinarian. Honestly, I like it.
  2. Franklin was developing nicely and I really liked his trajectory. But, this is a new day and he is not irreplaceable. For every loss, there will be a gain. CMW seems extremely confident that he knows what he is looking for. If he can get from the players who were last season, then great. If not, there are other guys. Everyone on the team, whether here last year or not, will be starting from the same place in CMW's system. To those who leave, I wish them well. Those who stay, I can't wait to watch this get rolling.
  3. I have felt that way about IU football for years. Used the exact same phrase.
  4. Ok, I readily admit that I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time, but I'll take a guy who's passionate about being here over a guy who takes a job because the money was too good to pass up. I've also heard enough from people with first hand experience to believe that this man can coach and relate to players. Assistants and translating to the different landscape will be important. I think he understands that. When he said something like 'at the end of the day, it's just basketball', I thought this guy gets it. Maybe I'm the idiot I always tell my wife I am, but I think a lot of people will be eating crow when this is over.
  5. Can we wander around like old people do and then just throw something in about Coach Woodson at the end?
  6. I think you make your pitch given what you want to do. Anyone not on board can walk. There's a new sheriff in town and I don't think he is here to play. This is Mike Woodson's team now and I really believe he knows what he is doing. I like the kids we have, but if they don't share his vision, it's time to go.
  7. If he does, he will be one of the oldest coaches ever in college basketball.
  8. Happy to see you here again. Honestly, we need a bit of what you bring. You've always been a defender of the greatness of the program. I've been watching since the mid 50's, though I don't remember that much about those teams. But I do know that over the years I've watched a lot of great IU basketball. And personally, I am fine with Woodson taking a shot at it. He, at the very least, understands.
  9. I like all of our guys and am not the least bit concerned over who stays and who goes. They signed up to play for a different coach and if they want to move on, I wish them the best. I want the guys here who Coach Woodson wants here. He has been around and coached and played against the best players in the game. To even suggest that he doesn't know what he's doing is foolish. I'm sure he already knows what kind of player he wants. The portal will give him a chance to get those guys right away. He's an IU guy through and through. After giving this some thought, I'm all in. I like what's happening in Bloomington.
  10. My least favorite procedure. Because of family history, I'm on the every 3 year plan.
  11. Honestly, I'm good in the balcony just watching everything happening below me.
  12. I'm closing in on 73, so I'm guessing that puts me squarely in 'blue' hair territory. But I also know I have lived a good life and I don't feel entitled in any way. I say let the young folks have their time. I get almost as much pleasure watching kids have fun as I do having fun myself.
  13. Yes, it is so different. I see the individual personalities so much better with my grandkids than I ever did with my kids. I think it's probably because the day to day of being a parent is so challenging.
  14. Nothing is better than that. I have 8 grandkids ranging from 4 to 24. We celebrate every birthday. IU basketball is fun, the grandkids are an experience like no other. Can't imagine life without them.
  15. A must listen, no matter what anyone thinks of Dakich.
  16. Like I have said, one of my all time favorite players. The picture of Knight's return to Assembly Hall with Buckner on one side and Woodson on the other says everything anyone needs to know. This might turn out to be the game winning hire we've been waiting for. I can't wait to see the team. This is a get on board or get out moment.
  17. I loved Woodson the player. I haven't really followed him much since. I have no reason to think that he can't coach IU basketball as well as anyone else. I'm old and probably an idiot compared to people who play the analytics game but I am pretty happy right now with the start of the Woodson era. As far as the national talking heads are concerned, my opinion of them is quite similar to Coach Knight's.
  18. It's embarrassing that we respond to every rumor like we do. We will know when the AD makes the announcement. He gets paid way more than me to make these decisions. And, he's likely way smarter than me.
  19. Wanting very badly to do something and being able to do it are different things. If true, I respect him knowing the difference.
  20. That and anyone who gets in an argument with Knight on the sidelines is ok in my book. Of course, Fife did bite someone during a game.
  21. File that under 'money can't buy happiness'.
  22. I know. I was being facetious based on the grief that Al got on the board. I have no problem with the kid and hope he does well wherever he ends up. I should probably check myself before I go into sarcasm land. Doesn't often translate well in written form.
  23. Either those coaches are high on crack, or we really underappreciated him.
