(2026) - PF Trey Thompson to Iowa
cthomas replied to go iu bb's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
McCollum was the guy I really wanted. He seemed to me to be most like Coach Cignetti from the cutting edge thinking standpoint. I think he will do well at Iowa and be a pain in our back side until he gets a better job. That being said, our coach has my full support until he proves he doesn't deserve it. I think CDD will be good for IU. -
I've always been a basketball guy first, but last football season was a joy beyond anything I had ever seen in football. I get it now. Good football drives the financial bus. It should always be priority one. Don't just give Cig what he needs, give him what he wants. The only time I've been more excited about an coming season than I am for IU football was the summer of 1976 anticipating that basketball team.

Bring it on!

The casual fan still thinks pre-Cig IU football. Anyone who watched the games last year saw an entirely different animal. They were tough, disciplined, talented, and relentless. In all my years watching IU football, dating to the late 50's, last year was the most enjoyable and it's not even close. I'm so looking forward to the start of another great year.

Probably can still post from inside the asylum. -
Best sport ever!

Beat Illinois and we are on our way to another outstanding season. My main concern is an injury to one of our key players. Overall, I think this team can be better than last years. Doesn't mean a better record though.

I think Purdue wins this game. They look like the better coached team. -

We are speculating about players, which is fun, but let the man do his work. We have to identify and pay the right kids. We cannot have what happened last year. Who we think would be good may not be who CDD thinks would fit. We may be disappointed with who we end up with on paper, but very happy with what happens on the court. -
I don't think Rice was properly used or coached last year. I'm not privy to what goes on inside the program but he seems like a good kid and he does have talent. If CDD sees value in him I'm good with that.

Flipping a committed recruit back then was a big no-no. It left Illinois with no time to replace him. Of course they were really pissed. Doesn't excuse the treatment that he and the family went through at that game. But I understand the feeling.

Has nothing to do with being soft. I'm not from that generation. I didn't have a problem with the chest bump. I was like ok back it up on the court. And they didn't. But the stuff with the Gordon family was out of line. That has nothing to do with being soft. It has everything to do with sportsmanship and respecting the game. I don't care if Frazer is on the staff or not, it's not my call. Maybe he's a different guy now. Maybe not. I just know that the people and things that I don't like don't change much over the years. It's CDD's call to make and I'm good with whatever.

I remember that game and what happened. It was a punk move from Frazer at the time and it was appropriate that a Gordon banked three beat them in their house. The Gordon family was also submitted to unnecessary abuse during that game that rises above a rivalry situation. Of course people can change and I don't know anything about what Frazer may have done on social media. But from what I saw at that game, I dont want him anywhere near IU basketball unless he has made amends. I think some on here don't understand how antagonist that situation was. I guess I'm saying don't dismiss the ops opinion without complete knowledge of the situation.

The guy runs really good offense. With better players he will be a tough out. -

I definitely don't want him in the B1G. -
I once married, many years ago, a woman who was a little unhinged and it was a little exciting. Then she went completely off the rails and it sucked.

My mother died from colon cancer in 1975. Had surgery for it in 1951 and lived the rest of her life with a bag attached to her side. She was a farmer's wife and grew up during the depression. Worked hard her entire life and was the kindest person I have ever known. If you have any history of colon cancer in your family, get checked. -
Gotta love Leal. Always looking for a positive outcome.

I'm liking it better all the time. I assumed he was headed for Iowa and we would hire McCollum, who I really liked. This might be a safer hire. Regardless, we will be in a better place than we have been for several years. He is young enough that he can build a consistent winner for a long time. In spite of what some think, there is no s,ure thing out there. I think we are going to be happy. -

I didn't think we earned a spot and would have gotten in because they needed x number of teams. The good news is that this hopefully means the search ends sooner and we can begin building our future. -
Like my mother used to tell me, I choose to say nothing about this whole thread.
