There is not such thing as "tampering." Or please point me to the rule. These players are on one year contracts that expire on their last game played. It is definitely within the "rules" to say hey kid, when you're done you should look at us. :)

Right, we were a couple of winnable games from the tournament. Swap a serviceable real Big10 center with Bailey and things are probably different. Even though still a flawed roster, a lunch bucket big who’s role is to rebound and make put backs makes a difference in several games. So you have to find that guy. But put the big money in the guards and a wing.

You could always pay him less and see if he leaves. When IU was good, they always had that 3 point sharp shooter, you could come in off the bench and get you back into the game.

There will be 100 players in the portal or “potentially” in the portal for IU to target based on what he and Cdd come up with scheme wise. Carr’s job will be to evaluate and rank them — these are the 5s we want, the 4s and so forth. CDd and the coaches will still have to recruit and entice them to come. Where Carr will really earn is keep is finding the “moneyball” players - undervalued guys that can make a difference.

He should be able to develop a consistent and repeatable process to identify players who can help the program succeed. That’s what Cig has — production over potential, certain athletic attributes, character traits, etc. It’s not about finding the best players, but finding the right players.

Then make it with a young team. Just spitballing here, but wouldn't it be great to make the tourney, maybe win 1 game in the first weekend? Then reload with a few pieces of need, come back the next year and go sweet 16. Reload again with only a few pcs. and go elite 8 and beyond. Rather than a constant turnover of the entire roster, living on the bubble every year.

I think we need to go young and rebuild, not reload. Lock down the 3 freshman coming in. Then find a few P5 sophs who don't think their current location is working out. Add a couple of high character leaders as Jrs/Srs and start establishing something. If we make the tornuney, great. If not, lets at least see an arrow pointing up.

Exactly. He already should have had a short list of players. Seems like he was caught totally off guard, which isn't a good sign.

So if we have no depth, there is nobody on the roster that can step in next year. That’s what depth does, right? Spend a year or two as a backup and then move into the starting rotation. Assuming you keep a few of the development/project pieces, you’re looking at 10 new players. 3 freshmen, means 7 portal players. I guess I hope he doesn’t panic and bring in a head case or two.

I don't think CDD has the fire needed, especially for the Big10. It seems every other coach has an "ahole" mode. From the old Franimal to Izzo, to even Collins. Did you see him when the kid took the hit in the face - he was going to "kill" someone. Even at the end, he was giving Martinellil the "fk yeah" face. Not saying CDD has to be a raving lunatic, but at least show you have a pulse.

That's the problem. If we were going to suck, it may as well be with freshmen and sophomores. Build for next year. Now it's a reboot.
