  1. I don't really give two shats about Dan Hurley, but only point out he took over a worse dumpster fire than IU, without open transfers and NIL. As soon as those rules came into play, his success skyrocketed. Let's at least compare apples to apples.
  2. Loosing the entire roster actually makes it worse because you have so many spots to fill and little continuity. Without proven success you’ll end up overpaying for mediocre talent. Kind of like we did this year. Got to get in. And if we make a first weekend run all the better.
  3. I think it means more than you think. Like BC says, it helps with NIL. It also helps recruit the better players. They have 60 some teams to choose from, many with solid tournament histories. Right now IU has an unproven tournament coach at the power 5 level. He needs to take that step this year.
  4. Really need to make the tournament this year to create momentum for recruiting and next year.
  5. As ridiculous as playing in an empty stadium. Yeah I’m talking to you UCLA and USC.
  6. Sure, but life is way too short to participate in stuff one thinks is stupid.
  7. While I agree he’s not going anywhere in year 1, and probably not year 2 and 3, and the thread is way premature. But so what. If you don’t like the thread, don’t participate. Pretty simple.
  8. Great players make good coaches. The flip side is the weaker your team talent wise the more fundamentals, IQ, discipline, and coaching you need.
  9. Again, if it’s based on “the committee,” that’s the edge.
  10. Which defines “the edge.” Solidly in my mind means they have a game or two to mess up and it wouldn’t make a difference.
  11. How do you figure? No room for error -- They can't make one mistake. That is the definition of "the edge."
  12. You know what. We just watched UCLA and USC (with two "big time coaches") play in freaking empty stadiums. Pathetic fan bases, both of them. We may be crazy, but at least we'll show up.
  13. Not moving the goal posts at all. Every job comes with a performance evaluation. If you allow bad basketball, you get bad basketball. If corrections aren't being made, then why stick with him? Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. We did that with four years of Woodson. Is Devrise the guy. IDK. He killed it at small time Drake. He was so/so at bigger time WVU. To date, he so/so. There is a chance he's Archie 2.0, just a little taller. :)
  14. Yeah, you win some, you lose some. :) It's not a "solid" in. They are on the edge. They can't afford any more mess-ups. Sad position to be in.
  15. Yeah, I know. That's what we have become. No automatic wins. No guaranteed tournament bids. Everything is living on the edge. It is what it is. :)
  16. Solid? You have more faith than I do. 8 games left, with 3 against ranked IL (away), Purdue (away), and MSU (home). If we lose those three, we need to run the table over everyone else. Very little room for error, with a team everyone knows is flawed. A win over USC would have been huge.
  17. Yeah, I'm a nut job. Let's just wait 4 more freaking years. And I am not saying CDD isn't the guy or a bad coach. But I have to see improvement. Jury is still out, imo.
  18. The problem with that is MSU. Had they won last night, MSU would have been a gravy game. Now it’s closer to a must win. They may have to steal one on the road. Probably comes down to OSU. Nothing like living on the edge. :)
  19. That’s just it. There’s a smart 28 footer and a not so smart 28 footer. We tend to take a lot of not so smart 28 footers. We are successful when we move the ball, make the extra pass, and take a good shot. Less successful when we chuck and duck. Last night as the game came down, we didn’t play all that smart. Could have and should have won that game.
  20. They were 10/35 from 3 last night -- 28.5%. That is 25 missed shots. If half were early shot clock misses, that's essentially 12 "turnovers." If 1/4 were early misses, that's 6 turnovers. The shots weren't "in rhythm" and a "couple of steps" back can make a big difference (turning a 22.2 foot shot into a 25+ foot shot). Plus we suck at rebounding, so zero chance we can keep possession. That's 6-12 extra possessions in a 2-3 possession game. It is a great play if you're up and going for a dagger shot. It's a bad play, at the end of the game, when you're behind, shots aren't falling, and you need points. We can either look cool or we can win. Take your pick.
  21. As I said above, sure it’s early, but so what. Discussing firing coaches is an American pastime. But frankly, if he doesn’t fix it, yes firing should be considered. It’s part of his job and if he’s not doing his job, there should be consequences. Do you get several years to fix mistakes at your job? :)
  22. Here's the thing. We have seen the flashes of good. Lots of movement. Making the extra, extra, and even extra, pass to get a great shot. Tough, stingy defense. But then something happens and the bad comes out. Mainly taking early 3s from well beyond the arch. That's basically turned into a quick turnover. So why is that? What is being done about it?
