  1. Here’s what we have been waiting for.
  2. If you watch the video posted several pages ago, they got them handled. Their technique should neutralize them for the most part.
  3. In the old days, a bad first year would set you back 3 or 4 years because you had to recruit and develop high school players. In the new age, it will still set you back, but only that next year. Players, especially transfers with limited windows left, want to go somewhere they know they'll win and compete for conference championships and make a run in the tourney. The money is part of it, but all high level athletes want to win as well -- at least the ones I want on my team. Gates go in, turned things around and could sell that success to future recruits. Even though year 2 was difficult, he still had something to refer back to and got back to 20+ wins. In Devries situation, he wont have that if this team fails to make the tournament. He'll need to convince a new crop of players to come in and fight to make the tourney. If I am a player, I am skeptical until is see results.
  4. That's why I asked Usps earlier about what he saw between now and the older Drake teams. He kind of came to the same conclusion -- execution sucks. Now while I agree a good coach should be able to get that fixed as the season goes on. My issue is the season is half over. We have had long breaks between games over the December holidays. That's the time to get things fixed, no? Trying to do it now, when you play twice a week is going to be difficult.
  5. The problem is this sets us a year behind. Lets face it, based on the past 20 years, nobody is coming to IU just because. So coach that will survive this has to be able to take a bunch of misfits and coach them into a winning team -- i.e.; make the tourney, maybe get to the second week. That winning should attract players, so the next season or two he makes a run in the tourney. That winning attracts better players, and now the foundation is set to be in the mix each year. So far, we haven't gotten past step one.
  6. I saw Alberto say he expects to compete for the starting job next season. Remember, earned, not given. :)
  7. While it's their "home" field, it isn't really theirs. They are essentially guests of the Dolphins. It's not like Memorial Stadium or Assembly Hall -- iconic on campus locations. Something get's lost when you play in a pro teams stadium.
  8. All they had to do was google him. :)
  9. Will he though? That is the struggle. The "misses" on this roster are huge. How can you miss on so many? Newsflash, you can't -- Something about his analysis is off. Portal opens April 7. He'd better start preparing now so he can hit the ground running.
  10. Fkg awesome. LFG. Going be singing that until game time. :)
  11. Just put my gear out. Got my work gear set up and my game gear. I’m ready to go. :)
  12. So since you have seen a lot of the before and the current, is this team playing anything like his Drake teams? Forget the record. Is the scheme, intensity, and execution the same?
  13. So I decided to look for all those complaining about the roster makeup. Iowa spanked us at home with 5 mid-major guys and 2 freshmen. This should have been, at worst, an even matchup.
  14. IDK about you all, but my nerves are starting. Got the Bears to distract later this afternoon, but I am going to be useless tomorrow. :)
  15. Chicago Cubs. 2014 Rick Renteria coached one season and was let go to hire Joe Maddon, who led them to a World Series. Asking for evidence now doesn't stack the deck. It asks for an objective evaluation of the coach and his decisions. I could care less about the W-L record at this point. What I don't see is a vision and the execution of that vision. He said he wants to play a "modern" offense and be able to shoot 3s. Cool. But is "modern" offense shooting shots from the logos? Cause we do a lot of that. Now he says some guys may not be buying in? Are you chitting me. Now I am not saying he has to be Cig. But it is clear Cig has a vision and a method. It is easily summed up by any fan paying a little attention: Compete at a championship level by: a) no self imposed limitions b) production over potential, and c) playing fast, physical, relentless. All Devries has to do is convert that to basketball and then go out and get it done.
  16. Was he though? If you only look at the record, then sure. But what was he doing to build his program? First couple of years I want to see the vision and the process to support that vision. The record will take care of itself.
  17. Is that because you’re looking at record, not process? How many have you seen completely suck year one and have it cooking year 2-3?
  18. What evidence do you have that he’ll make notable improvements next year? What is his vision for the program? Are we currently meeting it?
  19. First many fans have walked away. You can see the empty seats. Second I think you misunderstand what most fans want. Most fans are fine with a new coach having “growing pains” while starting to rebuild a program. We aren’t looking for a championship contender in year one. But we are looking for a path to get there. So what does that look like? It starts with a vision articulated to the fans, players, etc. Then staff — do we have the right assistants to implement that vision? Then recruits, both HS and portal. Are we able to sell players on that vision, regardless of money? Then action on the court - are we living up to that vision. Are we playing hard. Playing smart. Hers’s what we don’t want. We don’t want to look like a daddy ball rec league team. Which one do we represent today?
  20. If i got the right one, that sounds too much like Tom Allen, LEO. :)
  21. It certainly looks like they aren’t buying in. If they are not buying into his offense, then it’s time for A$$ meets bench. I’d rather have 5 walk ons who buy into the offense and get run out of the gym, that guys that aren’t on board. Devries needs to get control of his team or he’s finished.
