Where did I say "great" coaches? What I said, and clarified above, is that coaches aren't skipping IU because of fans and expectations. They aren't skipping us for money either. They are skipping IU because they don't have to come here anymore. It's no longer "Indiana." Sure we have banners, but as the t-shirt said the other night -- they are dusty banners.

Sure, we get a few here and there. But the point is players aren't knocking down the door to play here.

So my post was a bit unclear and should have specified the the reasoning -- the fans, expectations, etc. They are not not coming here because of fans and us dorks on a message board. No "big" time coach is going to Iowa. They took a flyer on an up and comer. Essentially what we have to do -- yes we have become Iowa, or worse. :) "Big" time coaches don't come here because they don't have to. It's no longer "Indiana" -- as Tom Crean said. They get resources and can build programs at their current schools. Show me a big time coach that would leave his current gig for ours -- it doesn't exist. As Cig has said, "why would I leave, I am at the top of college football now."

If I was a stud and they paid massive severance, hell yeah. This whole no coach would want the job is BS. They get paid big $$$. I'll take a couple of million to coach one year and if you don't like it, I take several million to walk away. What's not to like? :)

Well we have trial and error now. Facts are facts. He failed miserably on the roster this year. And given the unfortunate results, I have no confidence that it will be better next year. Who wants to play for IU these days, as our new tradition seems to be missing the tournament.

The problem is the plan, not the money. We have the money to field a competitive team. We have a senior heavy team this year, which means we get to start all over again next year. That's fine, if this year's team was good enough to attract attention. But it's not. It's a total bust. So now what? Try the same thing again? Find some underclassmen who might hang around for a few years and build a program? Do not forget, we got smacked, at home, by a similarly talented Iowa team. Friday might be an adventure.

If he puts up some number at G Tech, he could very well be back. Only problem now is, without a viable backup, we are one bad hit from 5-7.

Ok, C+ coaches. :) The only people coaches have to worry about is Scott and Pam. Not a bunch of us dorks on the interweb. :)

Yeah because A+ coaches are worried about "fire the coach" threads on Btownbanners. :)

Which is what we started with because his assistants had some prior history with IU, no? DDV should have said, no "self-imposed limitations" -- my guys or the highway. :)

I don’t know. It would depend on what the plan was and is. If the plan was to come in and suck the first year while he learned the Big10, then he met his goals. If not, we would need to have a long discussion on whether this is the job for him and what is going to be done going forward. He didn’t attract much talent in last years portal. What has changed to have a better haul. HS recruiting kinda seems mediocre right now. Game play has been uninspiring.

So what will be the difference after this season? Will need to rebuild the roster coming off another mediocre season. Still meet your a, b, c criteria. I would have rather suffered thru a roster of young Big10 level players that we could build off of, than this.

Actually, and I keep repeating myself, the Cig model is the model to copy. He didn’t have any “high end” players. Coached the crap out of them and won games. This season, still didn’t have a bunch of “high end” players. Fernando developed into one. Got Coogan in from ND. Coached and Won it all. Now look, a bunch of players want to jump on the bandwagon.

Seems like we might have a hole at backup QB. Going to be hard to recruit top talent "just in case." Downside of the portal, IMO. Would have much rather seen Alberto learn for one more year and play two as an upperclassman.
