  1. If a "good recruit" is so soft he'll be chased off by a few boos for a sub standard performance of a player, then he's not the type of player we want. We need killers, not snowflakes.
  2. That's the new guys job. He should be going thru all players projected to be available and creating a board -- top 10 PG, top 10 wings, top 10 bigs, etc.
  3. How does that ref miss that. He’s standing right there
  4. Which means you have to play team basketball. Kind of a lost art.
  5. It’s a good sign hearing that Ryan Carr interview. Sounds like this was a strategic decision by CDdv and Dolson to bring in a specific guy for a specific job. Like who do we know that can help with roster building in this new era and create a job for him. So search firm, etc. Just so happens they had a guy an hour away.
  6. Why? You have the perfect role model. Yes Cig is one of a kind, but you do just 80% of what he does and you’ll be very successful. Pick his brain, watch him work — then change and adapt and you’ll succeed.
  7. There is a big difference between help and telling the coach what to do. Help is “hey Scott, in this portal era it’s necessary to have a good player personnel guy. Let’s hire Ryan Carr.” Vs, “Coach you need to fire an assistant and bring in this guy, because you basically suck.”
  8. You really think Dolson is going to micro manage like that? And Devries will accept that? I doubt that. They have brought in a player personnel guy. Hopefully that helps.
  9. It is not a money issue.
  10. Hey, no dissing the El Camino. :)
  11. Collins must suck as a coach. :)
  12. Hopefully, the new guy makes a difference. 2000 players enter the portal. Even sticking to the "top" 500 that's a lot of kids to evaluate. Need to really find guys that give you maximum return for the $$ spent.
  13. Kids/Agents is semantics. But maybe those others knew something we didn't?
  14. Collins might as soon as his kids are out of high school, which I think they are or very close. NWs problem is the entrance requirements and they are hard on transfers. He could probably do wonders at a place like IU.
  15. My point is CDDv is in competition with a lot of coaches at the P5 level that have a more credible resume at this level. Say you're a stud entering the portal. You get a call from Bill Self, Hurley, Todd Golden, and maybe even Sampson. And then one from CDDv. Who are you calling back first? Will you even get to CDDv? He's got nothing to sell, especially if he misses the tournament this year. Some here think money can make the difference, but I beg to differ -- at least for the type of players you want. Cig didn't have credibility at the P4 level his first year either. But over two years, he took a bunch of 2-3* "misfits" and won a national title. If you're a 5* and the phone rings with Cig on the other end, you're darn sure you're at least picking it up.
  16. We changing the title of that other tread back? :)
  17. Sure but X doesn't = Y. Resources don't necessarily equal a competitive roster. You just can't buy a roster. And you say it yourself -- the coach is at least the number 2 criteria. CDDv doesn't have that history of sending kids to the NBA -- he hasn't been at the P5 level long enough. Now interesting that you mention Reed Bailey. We forget that Texas, Kentucky and Kansas were all interested. So it's not like he was some schlep nobody wanted. We overpaid and won. How's that working out?
  18. As of now, CDDv is an unproven commodity at the P5 level. He didn't make the tournament last year and is unfortunately on the bubble this year. Dudes want to play in the NCAA tournament and right now there many better options to meet that goal. That's why making the tournament this year is really important -- it puts CDDv on the right track to build that clout. You can't just simply "buy" a roster -- exhibit, A Mike Woodson last year. Do we really have a talent evaluation problem? How many guys did we "miss" last year, and that includes the ones who wouldn't pick up the phone? Maybe what we got, is the best we could get? The cure for our problems is: A) get into the tournament by hook or crook. B) Start evaluating players for the portal and be ready to hit the ground running 5 days before the portal opens. We may need to find some diamonds in the rough. Hello Ryan Carr. :)
  19. The problem with that line of thinking is that everybody has money. So if you're choosing between, lets say Bill Self, Dan Hurley, and CDDv, how much money will make a difference? I want money, but I also want to win. 2 of those are proven winners right now. One is working on it, and hopefully gets there soon.
  20. Still in the driver's seat. Win the next three at home. The rest of it is too much math. :)
  21. Well there is your player personnel/ GM guy. Hope he is joining now to start portal evaluations.
