Assistant coaches

Yeah, and bring in the swim team. : ) -
At the end of the day, it will take Congressional approval. Under the heading of "Education" and "student athlete" they can bring back true college sports. There will be reasonable limitations on transfers and NIL/Revenue sharing structures. Essentially the "old model" with payments on the table instead of under the table. Otherwise the courts get involved and we get what we got now. Courts can only look at money and are really bad at deciding what is actually best for the athletes -- which is probably a combination of money and education.
-
A fundamental problem is the athletes need to be treated no worse than the regular student. The regular dude can work, transfer, etc. So you can't penalize them for that. There are zero good answers. The money and "free agency" will eventually ruin college sports as it has done professional sports. We'll all have to find something better to do.

Franimals kid is available from Butler. : )

2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
Golfman25 replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As stated, they don't have to commit within that time and there is no second semester pushing the window like football. They have all spring to decide if necessary. Most coaches probably want the kids there for the summer. -
Cig evaluates to a profile. He has certain characteristics he looks for, both physical and mental. For example, a kid's feet aren't right and he's off the board. Then he develops the crap out of them.
-
For every success you can point to, how many "failures" are there? That's all I am asking to be considered. It's a risk. The IU experience has been pretty dismal. Carr will have a job to do.
-
I guess we'll see what Carr does.
-
5 of 15. Now how many didn't make those teams? How many struggled, etc? Mid majors putting up "good stats" is the problem. If you're looking at mid-major players, you need to look at the guys who dominate at the lower level. That way you at least have some idea that he is better than most other's he is currently playing against. Take our guy Wilkerson. Averaged about 20 pts. last year -- 13.5 was the avg. of the leaders, so pretty dominant in his league. And 20 pts. this year -- basically given the higher competition level, worked hard to stay about the same. Taking a guy with "good" stats is a risk, so Carr better know what he is doing.
-
You clearly have a reading comprehension problem. Not at all what I said. Several posts mention stats, go back and read them. My summation is that mid-major players are mid-major players. Are there a handful that move up and make a difference -- yes. You pointed to the successes. But do most of them? I doubt it. If you want to go that way, then good luck next year with your mid-major team part 2.
-
If that is the case, then it was shear stupidity and they should take his AD award away. If that was the plan, they should have gone young to develop and build some continuity. I.e.; Sisley sitting on the bench did nobody and good.
-
Yes that is it. Starting with how big are they and how athletic are they -- things you can't coach. We have a bunch of guys here spouting stats at the lower level as if they will translate. I have no issue with a guy who went mid-major to play and develop instead of sitting on the bench at a Power 4. But most are at the mid-major level because they are mid-major players.
-
Like I said, confirmation bias. You're just providing the successes. Now show me the failures.
-
You guys are suffering from confirmation bias. Sure you can point to successes. And they make great Cinderella stories. But you also have to consider the not so successful. The odds aren't there.
-
Thankfully a bunch of guys here aren't responsible for player personnel. There is a reason guys are at the mid major level -- primarily size and athleticism. Those can't be taught. Have to start there and then determine if they have the skill set to compete in the Big10. You increase your chances looking at guys already there.
-
It did take them a while to determine Alexis > Bailey.
-
Not sure kids will want to come to sit on the bench and “develop.” They can play and develop at a lower level and them transfer in a year or two. We need to find guys on power 4 benches who can play in the Big10. That is exactly why Carr is here — find those diamonds in the rough.
-
6? That was a short one. :(((((
-
We need dudes. Preferably ones that have proven they can play at the Big level.
-
Yes you can. :(((((
-
First, if the seniors didn't want to do it, good luck fielding a team. Second, if you wait for the portal, you're behind. Need to get to work now and each week as teams exit the Big Dance, more players become available. Football could do it because they were running toward a National Championship -- where players want to play. Going to The Crown doesn't give IU any cred.
-
Guys, Focus. Power 4 players. We tried the mid-major route.

But wouldn't the opposite be true? Hey, we know you may be looking elsewhere but we invested in you and are going to play you until you drop. Burying him on the bench basically tells him to leave. -

There is not such thing as "tampering." Or please point me to the rule. These players are on one year contracts that expire on their last game played. It is definitely within the "rules" to say hey kid, when you're done you should look at us. :)
