Sure but X doesn't = Y. Resources don't necessarily equal a competitive roster. You just can't buy a roster. And you say it yourself -- the coach is at least the number 2 criteria. CDDv doesn't have that history of sending kids to the NBA -- he hasn't been at the P5 level long enough. Now interesting that you mention Reed Bailey. We forget that Texas, Kentucky and Kansas were all interested. So it's not like he was some schlep nobody wanted. We overpaid and won. How's that working out?

As of now, CDDv is an unproven commodity at the P5 level. He didn't make the tournament last year and is unfortunately on the bubble this year. Dudes want to play in the NCAA tournament and right now there many better options to meet that goal. That's why making the tournament this year is really important -- it puts CDDv on the right track to build that clout. You can't just simply "buy" a roster -- exhibit, A Mike Woodson last year. Do we really have a talent evaluation problem? How many guys did we "miss" last year, and that includes the ones who wouldn't pick up the phone? Maybe what we got, is the best we could get? The cure for our problems is: A) get into the tournament by hook or crook. B) Start evaluating players for the portal and be ready to hit the ground running 5 days before the portal opens. We may need to find some diamonds in the rough. Hello Ryan Carr. :)

The problem with that line of thinking is that everybody has money. So if you're choosing between, lets say Bill Self, Dan Hurley, and CDDv, how much money will make a difference? I want money, but I also want to win. 2 of those are proven winners right now. One is working on it, and hopefully gets there soon.

You can clearly model great coaches. I don’t know enough about CDdv to make that determination yet, but unfortunately I’m learning no.

Coach DDv doesn’t have the clout to build a top 25 roster. He has to coach up what he can get and work from there. Make the tournament and he’ll be headed in the right direction.

I'll NEVER forget when someone asked Coach Knight about the new 3 point shot. He said, "doesn't matter to me. I have the only player that can make the thing." :)

IDK. Is he projecting based on whether he expects the team to win or lose the remaining games? If he projected IU to lose at IL, then IU did what was expected and nothing would change. Now if they upset Purdorks, the seeding should change, no. Edit: probably should have read ballers post first. :)

I am no bracketologist, nor did I sleep at a Holiday in, but I think we need to get to 20 wins. So with 5 games left, 3-2 would put us at 11-9 in conference, and 20-11 overall. Stealing one over Purdue or Mich State, would really set us up. Otherwise, it could come down to beating OSU on the road.

CDV has made some changes which is a great sign vs the typical stubborn coaching style we see. Moving Alexis into the starting rotation and now letting him lose down low a little bit has changed the game. "Slow walking" Conerway back into any rotation seems to have helped as well. And getting his son to play a more complete game has worked wonders. For whatever reason, they were in a mid season funk back in Dec/Jan. No longer there today. Arrow looking up. Just beat IL. :)

Side note: I watched Joe Montana drive down and score on the Bengals in the 3 final minutes to win Super Bowl 23. Back when Kilroys had booths. :)

That wasn’t the case several games ago when this thread was started. We had lost to Minn, gave up a big lead at home to Nebraska, and just got smacked at home by Iowa of all teams. (All covered up by Cig and the football team winning the championship). They were headed in the wrong direction. It has been a very nice turnaround since that time. Almost as if CDV read the thread and said “oh chit.” :)

Yeah, it’s beating MSU that might be the problem. :) But one game at a time.

Make the tournament and all arrows are pointing up. Especially with this flawed roster. Return Dorn, Miles and Sisley. Add the incoming HS players, and fill out the roster with some key portal additions. We’ll be cooking with gas.
