    I don’t think they are unimportant, but just one piece of the puzzle. And it’s how you use them that’s more important. We certainly don’t need to spend all the money on two. You need competent bigs. They don’t have to be the center point of your team.

    You can't really compare pre Portal and NIL with today. Back then it did take years to get your recruiting classes thru the system. And you usually started with a weak team, which is why the last guy was gone. But I'll raise you a Todd Golden and Dusty May -- guys who have done in today's era.

    Seems to me you want to announce ASAP to get the most eyes on you. But that is just me.

    I suppose but only 16 teams are left playing (ok maybe a few others in the NIT/Crown are left). Might be some slim pickins in the portal this year. Hopefully things pick up.

    This week is basically over. I have to think (hope) coaches meetings where held over spring break and player meetings Monday/Tuesday. The fact that we don't have any significant announcements yet is probably a good sign, at least for some continuity.

    It's not a question of whether they see the same thing. It's a question of their stubbornness to not make changes. It took a bit of time to make the Alexis switch -- I'm not sure if that is good or bad. Good that they saw it and eventually made the switch. Or bad that it took them as long as it did.

    I don’t think anyone is saying not to evaluate mid major players. But don’t go after just average or above average mid major players and expect a “step up.” If you’re looking at a mid major guy, he has to be dominant at that level. Otherwise it’s a big risk.

    How is that different from every other successful team? Except they may have multiple stars in the starting rotation.

    I liked that he "tried to go after" Todd Golden and had to be held back. Like one of those little ankle bitter dogs. : ]

    Interesting chart. I’d like to see the last couple of years. But the small sample size shows 11 of the 16 had homegrown starters. That’s a pretty big advantage— almost 70%.

    I am not. I never claimed it to be a "top 20 class." You should ask the rating gurus.
