  1. It’s the haves and the have nots, just like it’s always been. But bags aren’t being dropped in hotels and family members aren’t getting jobs/cars/houses. The transactions are in the open and you know what you need to compete. Getting someone who understands roster making, where to spend, when to splurge is part of it. Then the nuance of actually being a good coach comes into play. I don’t have a problem with it. When you area have, it’s fantastic.
  2. Pretty much. It’s no different in football. Arguably worse, but it’s fun as heck because we are winning a retaining the pieces we want to retain. Year 1 was critical for all the reasons we now realize as a fanbase. DeVries and Dolson need to get together and come up with a 2 year plan to save his job and the program. Find out what resources are necessary to build a top 20 roster and try hard to attain it.
  3. Because Indiana has resources and its possible to have a “nationally relevant tourney team” in the first year. Nobody expects a championship contender year one, even the biggest fanatics. Kentucky, Michigan, Louisville as examples of it last year. Iowa with far fewer resources is doing better than us with the exact starting scenario. Plus, we aren’t rebuilding. They built a roster to win this year. 6 of the 8 guys who play aren’t returning. That’s not how you rebuild if that’s the plan. With Nil every year gives you a chance. Finding a retaining effective players betters your future odds of success. We aren’t doing any of that. Under this premise, next year can be completely different and possibly successful but we are way behind the 8 ball by trying to win now with a Senior laden roster and then not winning. Really bad. The best hope is we can have a “Woodson-eque” late season surge where we sneak into the tournament or just miss and can benefit from those vibes. But the reality is, we need to spend our money much better. And hopefully get more to spend.
  4. From a basketball standpoint, the only players from that team I would have talked to, were Reneau, Goode, Mgbako, and Tucker. Rice lost his mojo at Indiana. Kinda odd. I don’t understand how he was so effective at Washington State. wilkerson was a 2 to 2.5 million dollar player. If we had a PG equivalent of him and a center equivalent of him we wouldn’t have this thread going. Baba Miller was available late. We didn’t want to spend for him. He’s not exactly what we need, but he was an option very late we didn’t have the resources for. Finanically the biggest issues were Bailey and the 5 contracts that ride the bench that offer us nothing that may not even be back next year. So much waste.
  5. How old is he? Lol. 3 years of Pearl would’ve been fun. But still needs resources.
  6. Between IUBB and IUWBB, we must be being punished with the reciprocity of happiness with IUFB. Basketball is down bad. Football is Cloud 9. I think I need to find an alternate basketball team I can have emotions about. (I can’t)
  7. I was ridiculed for this observation in the offseason.
  8. Unfortunately not. Their basketball program has been incredible for 10 years?? They will never be cool. But winning is fun and they win a lot.
  9. He needs top 10 NIL. Simple as that. Are we serious about basketball? If so, make it top 10 and outspend to generate wins and a turnaround. If not, hover around 20-30 and plays craps with the program. We see where that got us this year.
  10. It takes 8 guys. 10 for backup injury issues. 11-13 are practice/Development players. put the money there. we need to overspend on 3 proven legit guys. PG, SGSFPF, C pay these guys. Get proven commodities. my example this year Thornton, Reneau, Bidunga. Just as an example. The other 5 spots. Get best for value guys. Athlete, shooters, defenders. They don’t have to do it all. Pay the roster. Make it top heavy. Generate excitement. Utilize overseas.
  11. Purdue pulls it out. USC atmosphere better than expected. And the Purdue contingent was very big and loud. Impressive. Purdue is exactly what I’d like Indiana basketball to be. They are actually way better than what I want Indiana to be, if I’m being honest. They are a consistent top 10 team. I’d be thrilled to be a consistent top 25 team.
  12. Yep. It’s a 3 year haul. I’m not giving up my IUBB addiction but I’ll fast forward more basketball than I’d like. And hope for a Great Reset in the offseason with an increased budget and a cohesive plan. And if it continues to be bad I’ll enjoy the next coaches search in a few years, God willing.
  13. I’m not on board with anything he says. it sucks to lose. Fans hate it, players hate it, and coaches hate it even more. but no one wants to take accountability. It makes them feel better to blame the fans. The pressure is real. But it’s certainly not the fans fault for how this team was put together or the fact that we are 12-6 and trending to miss the tournament. The fanbase has been incredibly ambivalent. Enrights brother, Malik, SDBurner(Race Thompson) are blaming the fans. The fans have barely given a crap this season, the results aren’t on the fans for this season and that’s a fact. The heat is turned up now, but a competive person works their butts off to win. A good coaching staff keeps them focused. Woodson, his staff, and his players hated the fans. And constantly saw things through a racial lens, which is no way to live. it all comes down to winning and exceeding expectations or not. Always.
  14. Wherever big money is paid comes expectations. That includes BYU now. You 1 or 2 feel good years but expectations follow resources. Indiana basketball just literally never gives its fans anything to feel good about.
  15. Wish we would have landed 1 of the 5 star fresh. But I think we don’t appeal in any way right now. Money, and probably overseas money is the only hope of an immediate turnaround. But who is our scout to be trusted? Because we don’t have one. We brought over 2 unplayable ones already.
  16. I’ve said that about all of our coaches recently. Assembly Hall isn’t as loud or intimidating as it used to be either. Fans and noise can influence the whistle big time. We haven’t been good in this realm since Crean. Goes hand in hand.
  17. He’ll be fine eventually. Should nt be playing much if our roster was better
  18. The guards were not great but our 4 and 5 were AA level players then Leal, Galloway and others. Mgbako with the right coach will be a strong college player.
  19. Talent vs talent is hilarious though. We had so much talent last sesson.
  20. The entire roster besides Wilkerson and Conerway if we are being honest.
  21. What I hope is we suck bad enough, the money is available to DeVries to try not to be an embarrassment to the University and Alumni. Take some donor money and build an intimidating roster like Woodson was allowed to do his final year. Because let’s face it, miss the tourney 2 years in a row l, it’s already over.
  22. lol. Not realistic but might prove highly accurate in a couple years.
  23. DeVries never invigorated the fanbase in the first place with this roster build. We were always a fringe tourney team at best with this roster. Part of me wonders if Dolson wanted him to try the “Cignetti” approach and get low major kids about the right things. Because that’s what he built. But 1, he isn’t Cignetti. And 2, you’ve gotta be an incredible scout and coach to make that work. I don’t think he’s either. Besides being a likeable basketball lifer he has no identity.
