B10 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I see zero chance of staff shake up. Well paid staff, decently paid roster. We gotta be better, starting with our scouts. -
(2027) WR Ja’Hyde Brown

I feel bad for recruits when this happens. I wish there was an easy way to avoid these scenarios. The initial responses to this tweet from our fans were clever and funny, but the old heads addressing recruits over this is not the best look. -
Full agree on the Mak stuff. I don’t understand it. My only guess is it’s a family member of a bench player not get run. As far as the fan bit? I think we are all fans posting in here. Moren set a high standard and built a solid fanbase. All the credit to her. When you build that with winning, fans get an expectation. If they continue to lose like this the fanbase will disappear again like it was pre-Moren. Im a little shocked we are as bad as we are. The youth argument is valid, but the staff built the roster with plenty of transfers. They didn’t get the right ones or ones good enough clearly. So this year becomes a write off. I haven’t lost faith in Moren, just disappointed in not being competitive and believe it’s more than age. We need more talent too. Not gonna be an easy flip back to relevancy.

They probably should but they are Iowa and we are Indiana. The supposed minimum expectation is to make the Tournament. Our team is treading that line very dangerously and not seen as a threat to do anything this year. That’s not the type of teams Indiana should be fielding on a year to year basis. Some say we have top 10 nil. I think it’s 15-25. Either way, with those resources we should be better than Iowa. Better than Nebraska. And better than what we are. Expectations are slipping and that is fine, I guess, because it hasn’t helped us either.

Coaching and Money combined is the common sense formula. It’s a A x B= wins formula. The better the coach and scout the less the money might be needed. The worse the coach the more money needed. Plus roster building is key! Our currently team isn’t too far off. Switch out 2 guys for 2 better guys would be enough, I think. Money solves that. Staff didn’t spend well and didn’t have enough to get the pieces needed. really unfortunate.

Outside of a few great and fun players I haven’t enjoyed the basketball experience since Zeller has been gone. TJD was must watch TV his final 2 years. Ware had some moments. Wilkerson has some moments. But the overall experience is more dread and anxiety than enjoyment. We haven’t had a great team or even a really good team in 12-13 years. Woodson had to go. I like DeVries just fine but the offseason approach and results screams mid to me. He can’t land top recruits. Hes a worker and I respect that but he isn’t gonna catapult us to the top. If we miss the tourney again, the job is even harder in the offseason. Maybe we should have barked up the JMU coaching tree again? People will respond with, he needs to rebuild, we have no results, no culture, yarda, yarda yada. The response is Michigan or even more so BYU. Get the coach, get the money, go to work. Counter, Football has officially taken over and I have absolutely loved the past 2 seasons. Not convinced the money is there to buy 2 top 10 teams or if DeVries is good enough to spend that money adequately and get a return.

BC Getting killed now. Mikel Brown questionably done for year. Kansas is underperforming and losing again under Self. Wish we could become the Flagship Adidas basketball school but Louisville has lapped us and Kansas won’t relinquish their reins even with whoever their new coach is. And Self will retire soon if things keep going like they are going.

USC sneaks a 1 point OT win at Minnesota.

Don’t disagree but unless you have a retro-Montverde type roster, you should stand out. Even then you should stand out in ways. He has the projectables. Hes unselfish, it seems. As I said before potential is there. My initial statement was production is not. Teams know who their best players are. They get the ball more. They take more shots. They become the focal point by default. All the best players have high production at that level. He’s had some games with production but not consistency. Anyway, as a likely future Hoosier, be great Kid.
