  1. Tom Crean was an elite assistant coach. Underwhelming as a HC. This is extremely common on the nations most elite staffs. Were you expecting us to hire guys who were very successful as HC's? If so, you are going to be let down no matter what. Those guys have head jobs.
  2. I haven't chimed in much on the Blackmon debate here lately but I will offer my thoughts. Without blinking an eye, I want Blackmon back. I've seen flashes from him defensively that shows he's capable of playing defense at a high level. Archie Miller implements a pack line defensive strategy, which I think will help JBJr settle in. It's not a defensive strategy like Crean's, where we are throwing a bunch of different schemes at the guy's in the same game. Call it Crean's defensive Gumbo. Offensively, he's about as good as they come, even on a national scale. Put him in a transition/motion offense, where there will be designed plays to get him open looks, and we have ourselves one of the top players in the nation.
  3. I'm with you. I expect our student athletes to be students, first and foremost. Do what we have to do recruiting the right players. Just no hookers.
  4. The NCAA is corrupt. Why should their rules be followed? If it's a matter of morality, follow that rule... otherwise keep up with the jones'.
  5. Can't blame you. That's the way we've been conditioned over the last decade+..... Just don't convince yourself that it's impossible. Archie's brother Sean did this very thing upon arriving at Arizona.
  6. Groce is expected to join Indiana's staff if he doesn't land the Akron job. Groce, Flint, Ostrum, unknown DBO. That staff stacks up to any in the nation. All three could be a legit lead recruiter at big time programs. We'd have 3 including Archie.
  7. Why do folks think we have to have assistants that were successful head coaches? Show me the precedent set forth, that proves your point. Bruiser Flint is a proven recruiter and has worked on great staffs. Sign me up.
  8. He mentioned in one of his interviews how he would find out who was really good shooters by who could beat him in shooting drills during practice. Love that.
  9. Fred Glass made it clear that he was committing resources to the coaching staff and recruiting budget... I doubt he will actually join the staff but Glass did mention that he was committing resources to the staff and recruiting budgets. Maybe we are able to pay him a lucrative figure for a short while, until he's able to find something more suitable/sustainable.
  10. Just throwing this out there bc I keep forgetting to mention it.......I'm a Cubs fan and I remember how I felt after they announced Theo Epstein as General Manager. It was a feeling of unwavering and effortless trust...... I have the exact same feeling now that I had then.
  11. Read on Twitter that Archie has an open door policy with high school and AAU coaches......yeah....he's going to kill it here.
  12. And he showed flashes of being capable of defending. I think he has the ability to guard. If he ever decides to round that part of his game out, then he's a no brainer NBA 2 guard.
  13. This! I know for a fact of a few AAU coaches who resented him for the way he carried himself. Not saying it was a universal feeling amongst them all, bc I don't know but I do know that he had 0% credibility with quite a few coaches. That's a big reason why a change HAD to be made.
  14. Personally, I didn't get that at all. I think he and his brother have a pretty successful blueprint when it comes to recruiting. Sean locked the west up almost immediately and you've seen him work his way outward. Arizona, outside of guy's like Ayton and a few others, doesn't really produce the amount of high level talent, at least consistently, that the state of Indiana does. I think Archie made it clear that our state was a priority (why wouldn't it be?) but that he's not limiting our program to just Indiana. He's already creating momentum within the state believe it or not. I've spoken to one Fort Wayne assistant coach who's said that there is already a buzz within the coaching community. This is the most excited I've been about an IU coach than I have ever been in my life (30 yrs). I get the feeling that we can take his word for exactly what it is, and that is exciting. I think we are going to look back on this hire in 10 years and have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. Some don't agree with me but I think IU was in danger of becoming truly irrelevant. Donovan would have been a no brainer but Archie, to me, is our next Branch McCracken/Bob Knight. I truly believe that. Good times ahead folks. I just hope we can all unite behind the guy. Believe it or not, it really does make a huge difference with recruiting when a fanbase of this magnitude is fully supportive of their coach.
  15. I prefer the Tom Izzo approach. His teams always end up much tougher around tournament time.
  16. Me too. Balls deep.
  17. That's no different than throwing mud at the wall and hoping it sticks. It takes time to formulate an offer. Time that we didn't really have to waste. Fred Glass is a very smart man (although some doubt that) and handled this very well imo. I agree that the call to Stevens had to be made but I disagree that we needed to call with an offer in hand.
  18. So many quotes that stood out but this one really was a pleasant thing to hear.
  19. To Archie: I remember my first trip to assembly hall too, bro.
  20. I think the most important recruiting momentum he can establish immediately, is keeping as much of our roster intact as possible. We have the horses to win under the right coach.
  21. Pics or it didn't happen.
  22. I think you can plug Archie in the same spot as his brother. Nearly identical numbers and accomplishments at same point in career. My List: (what I thought realistic) 1.) Donovan 2.) Bennett 3.) A. Miller 4.) Collins Donovan for obvious reasons. Bennett bc I'm desperate for consistency and some semblance of a defense. Miller and Collins bc I think these two are head and shoulders above every other young coach in the nation. I believe they are the next line of legendary coaches. Glad we got one of them.
  23. Fantastic hire! Folks are grossly overlooking how hard it is to win at Dayton consistently. He is the perfect hire imho.
  24. Worst case scenario: Archie bombs but we get to look at her the whole time.
  25. I immediately regretted the drama queen statement. Edited. Sorry josh.
