(2016) Arizona Transfer PG Justin Simon
HoosierAloha replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Simon would have 3 years left too. That would be two years, at a minimum, without JBJ, RoJo, and Newkirk. If he's willing to play a lesser role in 2017-2018 until those players move on that could workout nicely. -
IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?
HoosierAloha replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They have several rules about this but it seems teams find a way around them. UCONN was over the scholarship numbers a few years ago when Andre Drummond was an incoming recruit. He decided, because he would make millions the following year, to pay his own way. I believe there is a rule where you can't actively recruit walk-ons. -
So if Crean does leave for "greener pastures" on his own then no buyout is needed right? Or basically IU makes up the difference in salary of Vandy is paying less than IU? What if he makes more? Does IU get the difference? We could use that on the next coach. (This is a joke, no need to explain how it actually works)

Money, warmer, and a lack of pressure from the fan base?

Indeed, accidentally reported your post instead of liking... Nice look on the app

IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?
HoosierAloha replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Agree, every player who has a legit chance of playing in the league should declare. If it were me, I would go in with a mindset that I would need to be evaluated at X spot for me to leave. If that opportunity presents itself I would go. The free experience and feedback they get is invaluable to their dreams of playing basketball in the NBA. -
IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

Sorry Hutch, we're a forum that is slightly ADHD. Thankfully we have mods who are lenient and slightly ADHD too. -
Late 2016 signing/Grad Transfer
HoosierAloha replied to Hoosiers219's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Why can I see it in the quote but after posting it doesn't show up in the post? Confused. Anyway, good luck to Janks. I really hope he gets drafted and sticks in the NBA for a long time. -
Late 2016 signing/Grad Transfer
HoosierAloha replied to Hoosiers219's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'd post in the OP. Easier than digging for it. -
Saw Hammond (?) from Nebrasketball is transferring as well. Has there been this many B1G transfers in the past? It seems like almost every team is losing a few players to transfer or das boot (Minny, Ill).

I think a lot of people, myself included, will be disappointed in UNC's penalty. They will defend their program by saying it was a university even though more than half the students were athletes. I'm guessing Ol Roy will get about a 9 game suspension, maybe a loss of a few scholarships for a few years, some vacates wins (non tourney and they'll keep their stained titles), and maybe a few recruiting sanctions. On similar note, if they actually punished all the cheating programs properly college basketball would be boring for a few years. Not saying cheating is okay, I personally think it gives an uneven playing field, but college basketball and football is so dirty.

PITT Transfer Josh Newkirk is headed to IU!
HoosierAloha replied to Sam_Boger's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I never got the impression Sheehey wanted any part of mentoring those young rascals or any young player. -
Cheating but breaking the bro code could effect Russell's career more. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my locker room.

RoJo wasn't healthy more than half the year. Hartman was nicked up towards the end. We will be a lot better shooting team than many think right now. We should be about 40% again.

Declaring early for the draft
HoosierAloha replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I listened to Albers interview Devonte Green on his podcast. The bad: Albers sounds like a weird dude and the interview was awkward. The good: hearing from Green AND listening to Albers bash other media while saying he'll be out of the biz very soon. haha -
IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

What happens if Priller does actually transfer..? Who will we cheer for to be the human victory cigar? Maybe Niego? That just doesn't feel right after him getting run during first half B1G games. -
George Washington has been killing them with fundamental ball. Good blockouts, good ball movement, good shots, good help defense, good hustle etc.

2016 (F) Freddie McSwain Jr. to IU
HoosierAloha replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As we've seen this year, it all depends on who you're playing and who is calling the game. Woodbury believes that's just a small love tap. -
This stuff is crazy. Three players from OSU, a few from MSU and UM, one from pu. Anything I'm missing? We might need to go full spreadsheet mode to keep up with the B1G transfers.

Will he be playing in the senior all-star game as well? -
Late 2016 signing/Grad Transfer
HoosierAloha replied to Hoosiers219's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Didn't they have a player transfer out mid season? That makes three players leaving O$U, two leaving MSU, one from pu, most Iowa starters graduating, and pretty much the entire Ill team arrested. This conference... -

IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

I'm not 100% sold on this. I believe uncle Boo will have some say in his decision. If Troy is told he won't be drafted I'll be surprised if he goes. -
A Final Analysis on the 2015-16 Hoosiers
HoosierAloha replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think Crean has us a step below where I think the program should be. That being consist contenders for B1G championships. 2 outright in 4 years is nothing to put down but those 8th and 7th place finishes are a bit off, a 4th and 5th would be much better. I don't put a ton of emphasis on the BTT but winning more than a game every few seasons would be nice. The NCAA tourney is a bit of a crapshoot. I like the three Sweet 16s in five years. The one year of missing the NCAA and NIT stings and shouldn't happen going forward. The first round loss is also difficult to be happy about. Going forward an average of Sweet 16s would be nice. A Final Four or more to offset a first weekend loss could have the fan base feeling better too. I don't think we're too far off from those annual achievements. I do believe that is about the ceiling we will have with Crean. I'm not happy about it but after the last 20 years that's something to build on. If he Crean can get to that level I will be happy until an elite coach is hired by an IU administration stops talking about being elite and shows actions they want to be elite again. -
(2016) PG Devonte Green to INDIANA
HoosierAloha replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hopefully, the depth we have at guard with RoJo, JBJ, and Newkirk will give Green and CuJo some time to develop as freshmen. I was critical that JMor and OG wasn't getting enough time early in the season but looking back they were brought along nicely. If this can be done with CuJo and Green that could be key to provide depth late in the season.
