Late 2016 signing/Grad Transfer
HoosierAloha replied to Hoosiers219's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was feeling pretty good about the recruiting of '17 Williams with MSU having a boatload of SF/PF players. I guess they'll have a ton of openings now with all the transfers. -
Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG
HoosierAloha replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Wow, I think that says a lot about the toughness of these players. I'm sure they're all minor surgeries but they were all willing to go out and fight regardless. Best of luck on the surgery and recovery. -
I still see Hartman in the starting lineup. I believe his role will expand a bit next year. Has there been a previous multi year starter who then came off the bench? I know this team might be the deepest in the Crean era but Hartman is that glue guy who can play in a lineup with JBJ, Troy, and to a lesser extent TB. RoJo is a similar player to Hartman but as a guard. OG and CuJo seem like the spark plug kind of players off the bench.

Just not sure a "get Thon into the lottery" is what an IU program trying to find identity needs. He is a heck of a talent and could potentially take a very good team to really awesome. However, there seems to be a lot surrounding the young man who want him to get his. If TB and Troy return I feel really good about our front court/win talent and depth.

Declaring early for the draft

Didn't oh already say he would be returning? It wouldn't hurt to attend the combine and a team workout though. I see OG being a three and degree guy though. -
Free Market Recruiting
HoosierAloha replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I disagree that student athletes don't receive anything. They receive an education and a stipend. They have access to world class facilities and medical teams. They receive per diem when traveling. They receive meals. They get to travel. They do need to fix the current college/NBA and NCAA situation. There is nothing saying kids coming out of high school have to attend college. They can play overseas or in the d league. It just doesn't seem right to pay players to attend universities. Where does it end? Do we pay all sports across all universities? What is the salary cap? What is done when the puke's and Louisville's of the college basketball world give a signing bonus (like they do now)? I don't like it. -
It will also help not to have other players not willing or able to defend. TB and Z3 were not defending at a high level early in the season. Yogi had stretches where he was defending but wasn't doing it consistently. OGWan also wasn't getting many minutes either. We had lineups where JBJ, Z3, and Troy were on the floor together. Of the regular rotation players they might have been the three worst defenders at that the. If JBJ is on the floor with RoJo, Hartman, OG, and TB it won't look nearly as bad as it did at the beginning of this season. However, he will probably look like Troy later in the season when the rest of the team was defending at a higher level.

So 15 mil at one place that things are going well and look to be getting better compared to 20 mil at another where they just fired a coach after 2 outright conference titles in 5 years, 3 Sweet 16s in 5 years, and a solid looking team the next year. I can't confidently say I would take an extra 5 mil where my job depended on so much that I couldn't control. You're dependent on the decisions of where 16-18 year old males choose to attend college. The health and decisions of those student-athletes while attending the university. That is so much you're dependent on when coaching amateur athletes. Edit: that's just me though.

Watch out for UL next season and UNC the season after that. My momma always taught me cheaters never win and winners never cheat... thanks mom.
-
Job security is also part of the equation. If you're in a secure job making 3 mil/year and a job comes open that offers 4 mil/year but isn't stable do you take it?
-
I think the ACC is trying to become the AAC with the NCAA infractions. Syracuse, Louisville, UNC = SMU, UCONN, Houston, Tulsa?
-
I couldn't care less who wins the title as long as the cheaters lose. Down with U of No Classes and Syrexcuse.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
HoosierAloha replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well, technically say no to www and puke. -
Ditto for their other titles. Has the NCAA ever striped a team of their title? I honestly don't think they'll penalize them that much. I could see a slap on the hand with a "bad university." I'm guessing some wins vacated, maybe take a few scholarships, and Roy being suspended a few games.

Awkward!

I still haven't figured Troy out. One game he would get fouled or convert at the rim (kept is "chin on the rim") and the next game he would be looking at half court while flipping it towards the rim. How does a coach not see this or Troy not practice this? If Troy returns at 75% unstoppable Troy and brings that 25% bad Troy to okay Troy he would be pushing for B1G POY and All-America status.

Hey, they were letting it out when they needed to. Props to Nova!

Villanova played a tough game making plays and shits when they needed it. I would love to have KU's wins in March but they've kind of struggled recently.

Any stream for this game? -
And it's hard to defend the dude when you're not allowed to body him up.
-
He improved his draft stock by getting buckets in garbage time? I'm not so sure about that. Getting 20 points in the second half again UNC is impressive but getting 20 points against UNC while being down about 15ish the whole second half really isn't that impressive.
-
Oklahoma is UNC hot in the first half.
-
Remember that most of what he did was after IU was down big. I think Hill and Nunn were the top scoring duo in the B1G this season... With that said, Troy can take Troy as far as Troy wants to take Troy. He lacks extended periods of concentration which leads to poor defense and getting out of control. I truly believe if Troy could find a way to play in CWat mode he would be an All-America caliber player. If he returns I hope he is able to get his play under control and lead this team.

Post Game UNC. Fruck....

Hopefully second half Troy is a preview for senior year Troy!
