I really can't blame Glass for keeping CTC after he won the B1G outright, can you? If this season continues to tank, and with the buyout completely reasonable, there is an "extend or fire" moment coming after this season. THAT's when the rubber hits the road for Glass.

I have come to the same conclusion, but for a different reason. They ARE playing hard, but haven't been coached to know what the heck they are doing. Sigh.

I think you accurately answered your own question: Yes - there is really a chance, but because of the clean program, past few years of conference success, and quality wins this year, only under the conditions you described. The buyout at $4 mil which soon drops to $1 mil has become an enabling factor that allows IU to move on if they so desire. After this season, CTC's contract has three years remaining. For a future four year recruit, that is relevant. Methinks that after this season, it will start to become "extend or not" decision territory.

Kensucky posts a 2.4 team GPA for the fall semester. I believe that their walk-ons who are kept around for the specific purpose of raising the team GPA are included in that average. Disagree on one level; We start two 5 stars, and multiple four stars see heavy rotation minutes. Lack of talent will not have been the primary issue if the Crean era ends.

Because of the type of kid that Crean is bringing in and the relative success that he has had, I am quite sure that Glass does not want to fire Crean. However, if this year is again a disappointment, and with the buyout dropping substantially, that option is certainly on the table. Glass won't even consider it until he sees the full scope of the results by the end of March.

The next IU coach will likely not be someone that the board will discuss as an obvious choice, especially if Stevens lets us know that he's unavailable.

For those of you who think that opening the checkbook will entice Brad Stevens, you are wrong as you can be. If Stevens is ever the coach at IU, it will be entirely because he believes IU and the college game are the best place for him and his family, and it will likely be a decision that he makes with the intention of staying for the rest of his career. The man is already wealthy beyond imagination, and as a premier head coach, he knows he will remain so, whether he is in the college or pro game.
