For a message board, I don't think there's been all that much negativity.
-
There you go again with your condesceding, uninformed opinions. I'm telling the mods on you!
-
I know you are, but what am I?
-
Nope...we still have an open spot at the moment, giving us four guaranteed roster spots for '16. That, and this is Troy Williams's last season at IU, barring (lord forbid) a red-shirt injury year.
-
The order DOES NOT MATTER. Not even a little...not at all. As long as all necessities are filled, that is. I am pretty confident that's what we will be able to do. However, I understand that it is more nerveracking to not get one of "the horses" first.
-
Pot shots? This player is exactly who you were hoping for. SImply said. For an unranked recruit who starts our '16 class, I think this thread has been pretty darn positive! Hope he IS Todd Leary...the player, not the felon ;) No one (at least, no one with any sense) is expecting him to be a contributor in his freshman year. However, my questions from about a month ago still apply: will he develop into a player who can guard at the level needed to be a rotation player on a top 15 level team? If he can; this is a indisputably good pickup.

GG seems to fill a spot that CTC likes to have on his roster; a catch and shoot three point specialist that plays the 2/3. I have read that the knock on GG is his defense. That's the primary part that concerns me. Otherwise, looks like a fine pickup. The star power will come with other 2016 recruits; I'm fairly confident about that.

My theory sucked!

Much more likely he would be a conditional offer...as in: "We are offering you a scholly spot, but we will not take your commitment quite yet."

The Basketball Tournament - Hulls, Watford & Sheehey

25-24 Armored. Sheehey is killing it - the best player on the court. -

The Basketball Tournament - Hulls, Watford & Sheehey
Stuhoo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Saw a bit of the streamed feed the other night; Jordy has definitely advanced his ball handling skills and CWat has been playing the two guard. Both are averaging over 35 mpg. My only regret is that they didn't get a chance to play against, and stomp the living shirt out of the Chicago regional team that had JaMarcus Ellis and DeAndre Thomas. Will Sheehey is supposed to be over his hammy tweak and joining Jordy and CWat soon; maybe by tonight. $1 million to the winning team; I think our guys are in the final 16. -
So he's Matt Carlino junior?

We already had one from the Boucher family... Tijan Boucher

When I am selling OG as a great get, it s not because there is a chance he will beat out three year players who have also worked hard and know what they are doing. That's not what is supposed to happen.
-
It's a Crean thing; takes great pride in his ability to out-think the opposition. Sometimes it works grandly (Oladipo, Holt, Yogi shutting down Stauskus). Sometimes, it lays a big steaming pile of Jeremiah April or a mid-possession man to zone change layup.
-
Remember this post: Starting to think that OG is a major sleeper for more reasons than just his athleticism. He's a fantastic student (and is the son of an IU B School grad who is a business professor). Really smart, personable kids with lots of natural ability tend to shine. The way he writes, even on Twitter. The way the people that are interacting with him at IU are dropping hints. Marni Mooney is seldom wrong: marnonthemoonThe best and funniest part about OG is that he posed for this picture. I've never met anyone like him! The fans are going to love this kid! Happy bday OG!!! @oanunoby lasrileyHappy Birthday, @oanunoby! oanunobyThank you!

Old Friend would get his wish with Gelon, but I have questions: Could he improve enough to guard at a high level? Can he be a rotation player on a top 15 quality team? I'm good with grabbing a local Matt Roth-like specialist for the five-six player class we'll likely have in '16, but I'd be a lot better with it if he is the fifth or sixth to sign and we already have some complete players confirmed. Ibi Watson seems like a shooting specialist with far more upside.

I'm worried about in-state recruiting.

We were having this discussion on the board a few nights ago ; that is, the discussion about recruiting for Yogi's successor. We must be either: A)Thinking that Rojo is a starting floor general by his junior year (I have my doubts that he's a primary ball handler) B)Feeling pretty confident that Tony Carr or Devonte Green is the pg answer and that we're getting one of them -

You've said you're all for high quality players no matter where we get them from. We have a top 75 pure pg from Philly that is perceived to be an IU lean (Tony Carr). Also a top 50 PG/SG combo (Bruce Brown) leaning IU. Whaddya think? We are also in heavily on Ohio Ibi Watson, Eron Gordon, and I betcha we are still hoping Vijay can play at the B1G level. Grant Gelon in the mix too. There you have it; Two highly rated national prospect guards, and four midwest guards in our sights. As for Troy's replacement, we are in the top five for Michigan native Bridges (though he's unlikely), and we are the perceived leader for top 75 Lamar Stevens. We also have midwestern kids Hartman, OG, and Morgan in the mix (unless we are going to say that Nashville is the midwest but Missouri is not). Isn't that about what you are saying you were hoping for? I'm with you on quality of coaching questions, but I still contend that recruiting a nine or ten man quality rotation, one that includes many kids from surrounding areas, will not be an issue. -

My favorite is the one I was already aware of: that he has never finished worse than 4th in the Big Ten...at Wisconsin. -

I think I've got it: We agree on a lot: that we need "mature, smart players no matter where they're from." We agree that there is a savings of resources when we find them nearby. We agree that CTC has, ahem, "mixed relations" with local coaches, and that a bigger local effort could improve that reputation. We disagree that there is a higher success rate at finding mature, smart players when we bring in a local kid. We disagree when you say that Painter has had more success at this task than Crean. Does that about cover it?
