Hoosier Hysteria Role Call

Recommended Posts

I know i've come out of nowhere but i'm not lying. I had a front row seat to all the action, so for anyone who didn't get a good look, I can tell you anything you need to know I suppose

Give us your impressions on the players if you don't mind

No problem. Keep in mind, i'm no expert by any means, but I picked up on a lot of things...

A disclaimer really quickly as well: There wasn't much defense being played, and there was no banging in the paint at all. Keep that in mind.

1. Blackmon Jr. is awesome in a lot of ways. He doesn't look like a freshman out there. He is a pretty nice dude on first impression; I was at practice for the very last few minutes and and I were crossing paths, he stopped and introduced himself. Not all college/pro ball players do that, but that's telling you that water is wet.

2. Yogi was a blaze. I even said it on the broadcast to Andy; don't blink. He looks to be in great shape, and he looks like he is ready to take that next step up the hierarchy of Big Ten leaders.

3. Hoetzel apparently ruffled some folks' feathers I see; look, he's clearly got some confidence and maybe he doesn't carry himself the same way the "average" kid does; (but what is the "average" anyway) still, I personally think you'd rather have a kid who is confidence in himself and his abilities, rather than someone who is not. I'm sure he was feeling some nerves in his first exposure to a relatively packed Assembly Hall, and still went out and won that 3 point contest (granted, it wasn't the most rigorous contest.)

4. Hanner looked fine. The facts are this: He was stuck behind two top-ten NBA picks in Zeller and Vonleh, and now has his chance to make an impact. Jeremiah April doesn't figure to find himself in the rotation ANY time soon, so if he wants to be the impact athlete that he was brought here to be, the time is now.

5. Stan looked sound, was responsible with the ball, and took a lefty shot also. I don't want to say i'm looking for exceptionally big things from him, but i'm curious to see what sort of a role he takes on as the calendar changes to wintery months.

The good thing about Hanner is that the ball is going to spend the majority of the time on the perimeter. If Hanner can contribute around 10 and 8 a game, he is doing a great job. It's up to him.

I was kind of disappointed by Troy's second round dunk, doing the same thing that Devin Davis did on the opening dunk of the contest.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, wasn't able to watch so it's nice hearing first person perspectives.
