Vonleh Talks About NBA Choice
I would have liked CTC to experiment with Fischer at the five (before he left) and Vonleh at the four to see if that combination would have been successful.
Crean has never tried to play two true bigs together. He didn't play Cody and Hanner together last year ever and he didn't play Noah and Hanner together this year. I'm not saying it would or wouldn't have worked, but at some point why not try? I don't want to start another criticize CTC outrage from all the starry-eyed supporters, but I think this is another reason for some CTC criticism... And no guys, Jeffey Howard doesn't count but he has my respect for always playing hard.

Insight ..came in to get pizza after the game ...someone says only mushroom left (kidding of course) he says politely "thanks. I think I'll pass" Just a prize waiting for someone!

What's the insight here? Noah doesn't like mushroom pizza?

The hype of Hanner had much less to do with Crean and much more to do with fans salivating over highlight videos. The revisionist history that Crean hyped Hanner is comical. It was all fans on message boards like this one!

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
I agree fans had some to do with it, but so did the "experts" with the RSCI that rated him as top 50! Another great quote from Dan Dakich to set the records straight... "having hanner listed as a top 50 recruit is an insult to the other 49 guys on that list." Dan always says what he's thinking that's for sure.

I still didn't trust Hanner on the court this year, plus if he played alongside Noah there was no one to back up at the 5 unless you wanted Howard getting more minutes.  Hanner was and is highly athletic, but being athletic does not equate to being able to play the game of basketball and last year Hanner had no idea at all of what he was supposed to do on the court.  Being an "athlete" and being a "basketball player" are two completely different things.

To avoid quoting you again I'll use this post to address his ranking.  His ranking was based 100% on his potential, not on how good he was at the time.  Hanner did not grow up playing this game, he'd only been playing for a few years when he got here, so his feel for the game is pretty far behind the kids that did grow up playing.  Plus he's trying to learn a position with a bigger learning curve and that just puts him even more behind the 8 ball.  I saw him play at LaLu and I knew from watching him in a game, not highlights, that he wouldn't be much of a contributor until he was a junior at best.  He is athletic but he is raw, very raw.

No, the insight is he would walk out without getting anything to eat and his naivety that there wouldn't be anything but mushroom pizza left when there are 15 full pizzas left. They all get a a full size pizza and/or a sandwich. Everyone else feels so entitled to what they want. He was always polite and had no expectations. I am a big fan!

His only expectation was playing on the wing more!

I agree. I think if he would have played Noah and Hanner together more it would have opened up more spacing on the floor for driving lanes. Cuz I'm sorry but let's face it Noah would rather play a four. He's a stretch big guy. If he can step out and shoot the three then why not try to true bigs?
