Class of '66 Old Fart

IU Baseball at Minnesota - April 19-21, 2024

Outstanding day on the mound for Bothwell and we get a 7-1 win.  He went 7 innings giving up the lone Minny run on just 2 hits.  He walked 4 and struck out 13.  As I noted in the above post he's now over 200 strikeouts for his career.  Vogel pitched the final 2 innings giving up just 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 3.  Hoosier bats with 11 hits led by Pyne with 3.  Brenczewski and Sefcik each with 2.  Mathison and Mitchell each had 2 RBI.  Brenczewski has really been hitting well and now has a .340 average.

Doubleheader tomorrow with the first game to start at noon ET.

We got waxed 13-2 in a (mercifully) run-shortened first game of today's doubleheader.  We used a total of 5 pitchers and every one of them gave up at least 1 run.  Rybarcayk started and only lasted 3 innings.  He only allowed 3 hits but 2 were HR scoring 3 Minny runs.  From their it was a bullpen parade.  We had 8 hits; 2 each from Mitchell and Taylor.

Second game will start 2:45 - 3:00 ET.

Paybacks are hell.  After getting our butts wiped in game #1, we returned the favor in the 2nd game with an 18-8 pounding off 8 Minny pitchers who collectively gave up 17 hits and walked 9 Hoosier batters.  Mitchell & Oliver each had 3 hits.  Pyne, Taylor, Brenczewski & Stadler 2 apiece.  Oliver led the assault with 8 RBI that included a 3-run HR and a 3-run scoring double.  Taylor & Cerny each 3 RBI and Stadler had 2.

Risedorph started but was relieved in the 4th having given up 6 hits, 3 runs and 3 BB.  Buhr went 3.1 innings and gets the credit for the win followed by Decker-Petty and Kraft.  All total we allowed 12 hits and walked 5, and recorded 9 strikeouts.

After this weekend we're now 22-18 on the season and 7-5 in conference.  Tuesday night at 6:00 we'll play Ball State at Victory Field in Indianapolis.  Next weekend we're at home hosting Rutgers.
