Class of '66 Old Fart

IUMS at Michigan State - Friday, 09.22.23 @ 7:30

Ouch!  We've only scored more than a single goal in one match this season and that won't cut it.  Spartans get the W tonight by a score of 2-1.  We finished with 13 shots; 6 on goal and 3 corners.  MSU 13; 4 and 3.

Tuesday night we host Michigan who will come to Bloomington with a (2-3-3) (1-0-1) record.  That match will be televised on the basic BTN.

This was the Notre Dame game all over again except for the penalty late. A great goal by MSU early that IU matched. Than an even match the rest of the way either team could have won. Probably would have ended in a 1-1 tie if not for that trip by Shreffler that absolutely was the right call. Guy was certainly not going to score being all the way at the edge of the box. Yeagley cannot be happy with that and it will be interesting to see if he plays again in critical minutes as this was his first chance at it and he let his team down.

Team is now in a desperate situation to make the NCAA Tournament at all. MSU, ND, and Washington are all headed to postseason but Indiana is 0-2-1 against them. Throw that in with a terrible loss to South Florida and IU's RPI is still in the 70's. This result did not hurt it but need victories quickly or it is Big Ten Tourney Championship or bust for making NCAA Tournament much like 2013.

We haven’t look good recently and that has been costing us, I will be sweating on Selection day

IU is unlikely to sweat unless something changes quickly. They are either going to win the conference tourney and get the auto bid or be far outside the postseason picture.

RPI is in 70's with few opportunities for quality wins left at halfway point. Outside of the game at Penn State, everyone else remaining on the schedule has very poor metrics. Generally the Kentucky and Maryland games provide a chance for quality victories (especially on the road as they are this season). However, those two squads are worse than the Hoosiers this fall. So strange to see all three of these elite squads having really rough seasons at the same time.
