Have dome time to burn, so I’ve started a little project.  All Big Ten treadmill have been created in the PC stellar game (I removed X from IU’s roster and Llewelyn from Michigan).  I’ve placed thd teams in quads and make sure each quad had the same number of teams, UCLA and USC were added since they will be joining the Big.  Each team in each quad will play the other teams in their quads .  Top two teams in each quads advance to the single elimination tourney.

The placement of teams was taken from the teams average NET/Pom/Sagarin rating and placed in a snaked order.

QUAD 1:

UCLA, Maryland, Penn St, Minnesota

QUAD 2:

Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska

QUAD 3:

Ohio St, Illinois, Michigan St, USC

QUAD 4:

Rutgers, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern

tiebreakers in quad will be head to head and then point differential.  Today I hope to sim Quads 2 and 4.

Rutgers disappointed.  After getting upset by Michigan, they needed to beat Indiana to stay alive.  IU beat Rutgers on the strength of 19 of 24 free throws, putting them +12 at the line over Rutgers.

IU notes:

TJD put up big numbers, especially on the boards.  Ended up averaging 18 points and 13 rebounds.  Race Thompson, on the other hand was a big disappointment, hitting only 6 of 23 from the field in the three games.  Miller Kopp had very up and down games -- highlight was his 18 point game agains this former Northwestern team in which he scored all of his points in the first half.

Averages:

TJD 29 mpg, 18 ppg, 13 rpg, 2 apg

Round 1 of elimination tourney:

UCLA v Michigan:

Michigan started hot and at one point maintained a 36-20 first half lead.  UCLA cut it to 7 by half and then a second half opening charge helped them beat the Wolverines 82-76.

Illinois v Wisconsin:

For the first 30 minutes or so, Illinois maintained around a 5 point lead, but Wisconsin was the only team hitting in the last three minutes.  Wisconsin 74, Illinois 71.

Indiana v Penn State:

Ugly game.  It's not ften you'll see 44 offensive rebounds between two teams -- including 26 by the Nittany Lions.  Penn State got up 14 more shots but couldn't hit anything, shooting just 23 of 77 from the floor and 9 of 31 from three.  Hoosiers won 69-63, but it was hard to find a player of the game for them.  TJD had 13 points and 13 boards but was just 4 of 11 from the field and 5 of 11 from the line.  Top performance was probably Galloway with 9 points on 4 of 5 shooting and 7 boards.

Purdue v USC

Was never in doubt as the Boilers win 77-59.

Round 2:

UCLA v Wisconsin

Indiana v Purdue

Round 2 results:

UCLA 80, Wisconsin 58.  Never really a game.

Purdue 87, Indiana 83.  The final score was not indicative as the game really was not that close.  Purdue was up double digits the entire second half and were up 87-77 when IU hit two threes in the final minute, including one at the buzzer.

For the five games IU played:

TJD:  28.2 mpg, 27/53 from the field, 23/34 from the line, 11.6 rebounds, 2 apg, 2.4 blocks, 15.4 ppg

Hood Schifino:  29.8 mpg, 17/39 from the field, 5/15 threes, 11/14 ft, 3.2 rpg, 3.8 apg, 10.0 ppg
