The trick with this thread is that although they are reasonable comps, the comparables are still quite different.

TJD is a pure explosion rim runner and AH was a shooter who, after his knee injury was never a quick twitch player. A better comparison to Trayce is probably Ray Tolbert IMO.

DThomas was a wide base, crafty player around the basket. Far better at that aspect than Race. Race is much more mobile (especially this year).

Reynolds was a great defender because he was a quicksilver, whippet of a defender. He didn’t play that much point on offense; in fact he barely participated on the offensive end. Phin is a good defender because of strength, and is a true (though limited) point on offense.

IMO there is a perfect comp for Rob; Jamal Meeks, though Meeks was a better passer and a mostly unwilling outside shooter.

I thought about using Meeks instead of Reynolds as a comp for Phin, but I thought it fell short -- Meeks was a good shooter who didn't shoot much;  he was a great passer (averaged 5 assists per game in just 21 minutes one year) and was a pretty good defender, but that wasn't his main calling.  Phin is not a good shooter but has to do so more than you would like because up until this year there weren't shooters around him.  Reynolds didn't play much point but his calling card was defense, like Phin.  If we COULD get by not counting on Phin to shoot as much -- like Reynolds -- we probably would.  Ultimately Phin is probably better suited to a Reynolds like role although he isn't as fast but he is a better passer.

The other player I considered as a comp for Phin was Steve Hart (played two years at IU before transferring to Indiana State).

1. Healthy? Henderson. Post-knee injury? TJD.

2. Race.

3. Chris.

I think it should be noted that Henderson's injury came in February of 1993.

His junior year in 93-94, he averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds;  his senior year, he average 23 1/2 points and 10 rebounds.  His freshman and sophomore seasons pre injury, he was putting up 11 and 8.
