mamasa Posted October 23, 2025 Author Posted October 23, 2025 BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Big Ten season will reach the halfway point this weekend as teams across the conference prepare for the fifth week of conference play. IU will spend its first full week at Wilkinson Hall since the early portion of September as it welcomes Minnesota and Northwestern for important home matchups. IU returned to winning ways on Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon with a four-set victory over Ohio State. It was the sixth Big Ten win of the season and 15th overall. The win helped the program match its season win total (15) from a year ago with 12 matches to spare. Senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum passed 1,000 career kills in the victory. Freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager continues to play at an elite, all-around level during her first year of college volleyball. She's leading the team with 217 kills and is tops among all Big Ten freshmen in the category. On top of her elite offensive performance, Jager is providing 2.14 digs per set and 0.57 blocks per set. The Hoosiers will meet Minnesota on Friday (Oct. 24) evening in the first top-25 showdown in Wilkinson Hall history. It is alumni weekend in Bloomington with former players set to return home to cheer on the home team for contests on Friday and Sunday (vs. Northwestern). If IU can win at least one contest this weekend, it will give the team its best 10-game start to conference play in program history. The Hoosiers began 6-4 in Big Ten play in 1985 and 2023 and have already reached six wins with two games to go before the halfway point. Over the last three seasons, IU is 26-7 inside Wilkinson Hall. Friday's match with Minnesota will start at 6 p.m. with a national broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Jack Kizer and Mac Podraza will have the call. Sunday's contest with Northwestern is scheduled for 1 p.m. on B1G+ from Wilkinson Hall. Sunday's game is IU's "Dig Pink" contest. LOUISVILLE, Ky. ––– Indiana Field Hockey hits the road for its season opener against two ranked opponents on August 29 and August 30 at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. 2025 Rewind The Hoosiers won four of five games to close-out the regular season. Indiana ended the 2025 regular season with a 9-8 record and a 4-4 record in conference play. Indiana Field Hockey saw back-to-back seasons with 9+ wins (2024,2025) with five ranked wins across both years. The team boasts two victories against top 10 teams over two years, (2025 - beat No. 10 Maryland and 2024 - beat No. 7 Michigan). Both wins were on the road. The Hoosiers 2025 season concluded with a 0-1 loss to No.3 seed Iowa in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Midwest on the Rise With Field Hockey historically dominating internationally and on the domestic coasts, a rise of talent locally has brought a sleuth of talented players and successful seasons in recent years. In the Preseason Penn Monto/ NFHCA DI National Coaches Poll, five of the top 20 teams are located in the midwest, including the No. 1 ranked team (Northwestern). The handful in the rankings demonstrate the fact that more top players are bringing their talents to midwestern schools. Scouting the Competition The Hoosiers will open play on Saturday against No.10 Miami (Ohio). Following the neutral site match against the RedHawks, Indiana Field Hockey will face No.18 Louisville on Sunday. Miami concluded its 2025 season with a 16-5 overall record, including a close 3-2 win over the Hoosiers. Play was tied throughout the match until No.16 Miami scored in the 4th quarter to secure the win. Louisville and Indiana last met in Bloomington, where the Hoosiers fell 5-4 against the Cardinals. Indiana has a 5-18 overall record in matches featuring Louisville. It boasts a 15-10 record all time against Miami (Ohio). Coach Will Holt is back in Bloomington for his second stint as a coach at IU. He previously was with IU from 2020-21. He also served as an assistant coach at Louisville in two stints both when he was a student and in a full-time capacity (2022-24). Overtime Tidbits Indiana's Inés Garcia Prado, Molly Stutte and Mijntje Hagen were named to the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch list. Inés Garcia Prado, Mijntje Hagen and Gabriela Garayo Aranceta were featured on the 2026 NFHCA Division I Players to Watch List. Upperclassmen Mijntje Hagen, Javi Baeza, Inés Garcia Prado look to get the team to new heights this season as team captains. Indiana's roster bolsters a former high school duo who are once again playing together at the collegiate level. Javi Baeza and Charlotte Glasper played together at Shaker Heights High School (Ohio). The Hoosiers further their international talent, expanding the number of countries represented on the team. Lily Freeman and Jessie Mauro came to Bloomington from England while Keke Sluiter, Isa Smulders and Mijntje Hagen travelled from the Netherlands. Agustina Gamonal is from Chile and Helen Grahe represents Germany. Spain boasts the highest representation with Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, Inés Garcia Prado, Berta Sáenz de Santa María and Gabriela Garayo Aranceta representing Spain in Bloomington. Freshman Berta Sáenz de Santa María reunites on the field with Sophomore Celia Arroyo Cabezudo as the pair both attended Esclavas Del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. Alongside the duo, Gabriela Garayo Aranceta is also from Santander, Spain. It will start the weekend on Friday, Sep 4 at 3 p.m. against New Hampshire, followed by a senior day match against Central Michigan on Monday, Sep 7 at 12 p.m. WEEKEND REWIND • The Hoosiers dropped both matches in their opening weekend (Aug 29-30) in Louisville, Ky. • Indiana started the weekend in a neutral site match against No. 10 Miami (OH), where first-year midfielder Gabriela Gayayo Aranceta scored her first collegiate goal and notched the lone point for IU. • It was a close match against Louisville on Sunday afternoon as second year forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo put one in the cage late in the fourth quarter to equalize the score and force the match to overtime. • Louisville was able to score in the overtime period in the 72nd minute off a penalty stroke goal. QUICK STATS • Hoosier goalkeepers tallied eight total saves throughout Saturday's match, with third year Sadie Canelli and Smulders with the defensive effort. Against Louisville, Canelli totaled six saves. • On Sunday, Indiana totaled 28 shots through the match with 16 being on-goal. It notched 37 shots on the weekend. • Throughout the weekend, five Hoosiers made their collegiate debuts, including Gabriela Garayo Aranceta, Berta Sáenz de Santa Maria who started for IU. Augustina Garmonal, Isa Smulders and Elle Obenour also represented Indiana for the first time on Saturday. • IU found strength in the 3rd period of the game, attempting 11 total shots in the third against both opponents. • Gabriela Gayayo Aranceta made her first collegiate goal in her first career start with the Hoosiers on Saturday. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION • The Hoosiers are set to take on New Hampshire on Friday, Sep. 4 at 3 p.m. in their home debut for the 2026 season at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind. • New Hampshire is 0-2 after its opening weekend, falling to No. 20 Saint Joseph's and No. 11 UConn. • IU is undefeated (5-0) against the Wildcats. The teams last met in 2016 when Indiana won 5-3 at home. • On Labor Day, the cream and crimson will host Senior Day as they face Central Michigan at noon. • Central Michigan is 0-3 this season, last recording a 2-1 loss against Stanford on Aug. 31. • The Hoosiers are 10-1 in games featuring Central Michigan, last meeting in 2021 where IU secured the 3-2 road victory.
