General Coach Candidate News

This x100 I’m not in the camp that wants Cronin at all but I’d take him 17x over Brownell. At least we know he can get us in the tournament every year. -

This. Looking at the searches for UK/UL last year, my expectations have been kept in check. UK is a blue blood program. If they had to move down their list because the heavy hitters wouldn’t go there, what makes us believe it’s different here? It’s not different. NIL changes the playing field. You don’t have to go to a blue blood to get great players because they will come with money and coaching regardless. Is this still a desired job? Sure for some. But Pearl, Drew, Few, Oats don’t need to come to IU. They have established programs where they can and are winning. I hope the white whale rumors are correct and we get the big fish. But I’m preparing myself for a McCollum, Wade, McMillan. I won’t be surprised given todays college basketball landscape. -

I hope that happens for him. You can see how much he loves playing for IU. -

I think this as well. Projected 11 seed before Oregon loss. Just take care of business at home and don’t get blown out first game of BTT. -

Collin’s would be low on my list but he’s not a bad choice. I think it’s going to be hard not to do better than Woody at this point lol I like DeVries, McCollum, and Byington in that tier with Collins. All good coaches who I think have a chance to do great things at IU. Hoping for one of those top tier guys though but none of these are bad options should we have to move down the list. -

He’s done a terrific job there. Not sure if that would translate to IU. Probably would be a big leap at this point. -

Thank you for recapping what you posted lol this time I don’t have to ask for cliff notes to find out what I missed several pages back. -

I’m sure the poster was making excuses however I don’t try to discount every rumor I read lol I don’t wish Woody ill will just need him to retire never to be involved in IU coaching again. -

I did see on another board someone posted Woody has some health concerns and no matter what would happen he would not be coming back. Now take that with a grain of salt because no clue who the poster was or if there is ANY truth to that rumor. -

Anyone have cliff notes for today? Way too many pages for me to go back and read before the game. -

This isn’t the only place that’s toxic when it comes to disagreements on candidates. There’s been good posters run off other forums because their opinions don’t match some of the other more outspoken ones. You would actually think the decision on a coach is going to change lives by the way some attack others. It’s just a coach. We are just fans. We aren’t judge and jury over these coaches being mentioned for the IUBB job. Whoever is hired WILL NOT please all IU fans. At this point, I can’t wait for the search to be over and the hire to be announced. I’m also very much looking forward to football season. -

Yes. Other boards are like that too. I just try to steer clear as I’d rather discuss not argue. I’m not going to change anyone’s mind. Everyone has an opinion. Put in a morals clause. Do due diligence. Talk to Beard. If after you really feel you can’t take the risk then move on. But here’s the thing, I want a coach that wants to be at IU. I don’t want to have to beg or plead or settle. Passing on him again after he’s at Ole Miss likely will make the next candidate down underwhelming to most of the fanbase. Again maybe Scott surprises me and I’m off base. I hope so. Maybe Beard would walk the straight and narrow for an opportunity of a lifetime at IU. I doubt we will ever know… -

Would be an excellent choice but I’m guessing he’s another that is likely not leaving his current situation. -

Agree with you. I’ve been so apathetic about our program for so long I just want to see a good coach that can win. I want to be excited about IU basketball again. You are never going to please everyone. But I feel like winning cures a lot of those fractures. Maybe Scott will prove me wrong. Maybe he finds the CCC of basketball. -

Me too however this is kind of where I thought it would go. Day late dollar short. Letting QB force Woody on us cost IU. Will be an interesting several weeks. Who is plan C? I like Beard but I’m sure IU doesn’t go in that direction so beyond that there’s plenty to look at or try and throw money at but I don’t see the Drews/Oats/Pearls leaving their situations. Dusty was my top realistic choice… -

Thanks for the welcome! I like good discussions but like you said we have no control over who is selected so arguing for 20 pages about one’s favorite candidate is pointless. I respect everyone’s POV and for the most part can see the pros to most candidates. I just want someone that can coach, stabilize the program, and get us back to national relevance again by challenging for B1G titles and in the tournament yearly. I’m tired of feeling apathetic about IU basketball. -

Came out of lurking just to say I agree with this 100%. It’s going to be a LONG several weeks of waiting.
