  1. Yes agreed. I find it a little concerning myself nobody followed him. Is that a red flag? I’m unsure at this point but without the announcement of a full staff and players rejecting us with money to spend there is a tiny part of me that is wondering how this is all going to shake out?
  2. I never believed the hype on Stevens. I never thought he was even a possibility. My top candidate was Dusty. I can see why he stayed at UM. It just sucks we held on to Woodson and let the opportunity to get Dusty last year slip away. CDD was not on my radar as I was really hoping we would get McCollum however I am excited about the hire. I do think he probably can recruit the portal a little better than McCollum at this point and may attract a higher-level player due to his offense. But I felt McCollum was probably the better overall basketball coach that with the right staff surrounding him could navigate the portal and get some good players. It will be interesting to see how both pan out over the next few years. At the very least, I would expect us to be more competitive and make the tournament without being on the bubble next season. By all accounts, DeVries can coach and that is an upgrade from what we've had to watch these last 8+ years.
  3. Yes, I've seen that on their boards and on another IU board that some Purdue posters confusingly post on, along with their boasting about NIL they have to spend.
  4. I had to unfollow him on twitter. He’s insufferable.
  5. Forgot they had him coming with McCollum.
  6. Would have been good for culture but may have wanted more playing time than we could give if we have others on the radar. Will be interesting to see what kind of team Iowa fields with McCollum.
  7. Is Colvin more NIL related? Maybe thinks he can get more minutes and more money elsewhere?
  8. Not in a VERY long time. It will be a nice change of pace to watch an offense that’s more than just one dimensional.
  9. Definitely hard to be patient when we are all anxious for some information, but it will all come together in due time as shown in this tweet.
  10. Apparently, that's where you go to rehabilitate yourself to get a better job LOL
  11. Doesnt seem like many will come with him from the WVU roster at this point.
  12. I live in the area and actually my wife knew the mother in hs. He really never materialized at ND. He did have a great high school career but never really played at ND. I know (wife follows mother on fb) they were torn whether to stay last year but I think they thought he may get a better shake for playing time with Shrews. I dont know if the brother Chase is any better than JR was. I think JR may have had better hs stats. Good kids and good family by all accounts.
  13. McCollum is very impressive. He will be successful wherever he ends up. I kind of hope he stays at Drake for now lol
  14. I hope he’s retained. It appeared his work with Ballo (and I’m sure others) was valuable.
  15. Good press conference. Things that stuck out to me: Building a team not just bringing a roster of players. Process oriented...Cig all the way Confident, happy to be here, and really relaxed better when he started talking about ball. I was happy with him as the hire but he won me over even more after listening to him talk.
  16. I follow him on X...saw what he was saying but as with all things took it with a grain of salt. I guess he was the one with the correct information vs what all the others were being fed. I believe anyone here posting was passing along the info they were given. Scott did a hell of a job keeping it quiet.
  17. Excellent post. I don't really understand how anybody that watched the UK/UL hires last year thought IU was any different. Those are both great jobs and none of the top coaches were going there either. Why? Not because those are bad jobs but because they don't have to in the world of NIL anymore. If Oats/Pearl/Drew et al are happy where they are at, have an established program that is rolling, they do not need UK or IU. They have money and can get top recruits. Dolson isn't a failure for hiring DeVries. He swung for the fences like he should have and as expected he ended up with a young, hungry coach (like Pope and Kelsey) from a P5 program. The sky is not falling and IU basketball isn't doomed. This is exactly what the landscape of college basketball coaching hires are today, and we could have done far, far worse than we did.
  18. Well between this thread and the coaching hire thread trying to catch up, I’ve literally done nothing but read my phone all night lol Good hire. Much of what I expected. Never bought into the Stevens/Pearl/Wright et al hype. McCollum was my top choice but I’m excited to see what DD can do. Looking forward to seeing Tucker light it up from deep in AH. Time to focus on staff and roster. Appreciated being here for the search. I hope to stick around and post more now.
  19. I am curious what other big fish hire you think we were getting? Repeating what the other poster said...if you paid attention to UK/UL searches this shouldn't be unexpected or different IMO. Now if we did get someone big great for Dolson but I don't expect it nor will I be disappointed when it doesn't happen.
  20. Because he’s the flavor of the day. Nobody knows who we are pursuing at this point. But hopefully it’s not Brownell lol
  21. This…I think some are going to be disappointed if/when the name isn’t Stevens, Pearl, Wright. If anyone paid attention to UK/UL search last year, then nobody should be expecting too much different. Scott should absolutely swing for the fences with top coaches but when we hire a McCollum/DeVries/McMillan it shouldn’t be a surprise. We aren’t hiring Beard or Wade unfortunately.
  22. What if McCollum turned us down? He was choosy when he left D2 for Drake. By all accounts he was approached many times before going to Drake. Just looking at another perspective.
