(2027) OT Mason McDermott
skhoosier2 replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Yes for sure. That's kind of what i meant when I initially posted. Iowa puts lineman in the league and has a great developmental program for them. There would be no dropoff in going there vs IU if that's where they want to go. I think the only difference at this point would be IUs CURRENT success going to CFP and winning the natty. -

For sure. Kids that want guaranteed playing time can go elsewhere. That's likely why we are having issues closing on more of these top recruits (5 star/high 4 star). They want more than we are willing to give. I would think most programs would have a hard time guaranteeing anything to freshman but I guess some will say/do anything to get the players they want. -

If it's IU and Iowa...Iowa just put a bunch of lineman in the NFL as well. If that's the ultimate goal vs winning or playing in CFP, then I guess no difference. Sucks we are still having issues closing with in state kids, but we seem to be in on many lineman so hopefully losing out on this one won't be as big of a loss. -
If I remember right, Shannahan mentioned they have had a 1 year starter for the last 6 or 7 seasons. They recruit QBs but what is the incentive to come if you aren't going to be the starter because they are looking for a proven guy every year? I get it. That's the single most important position on the offense and someone you cannot get wrong but if you don't give any of these guys a chance at some point they will all transfer IMO. I think most of us saw the writing on the wall when he did not enter the Oregon game. Tough loss but can't blame the kid for going to make his own path and have a chance to be a starter.

All that I've seen says they didn't think the AD would allow the coach to sit for a transfer. They have a very mid Tulsa transfer that would have to start until their QB2 comes back from his ACL injury which they are saying at best is in game 3 against Houston. Reports say he just started throwing this week.
-
Agreed. I don't know what the rules are on betting but if it was me in the AD office, I would do a deep dive right away into Marsh's activity and make him get that app off his phone completely. I watched a video on X last night with maybe Thamel (can't remember for sure who but think it was him) that said coaches from all conferences were reaching out to him to find out as much info as they could so they could relay all of this to their teams ASAP. Said he wouldn't be surprised if all teams had team meetings leading with this information to scare all of the players into submission. So many implications for the the teams if kids get caught but life changing for someone like Sorsby who will lose 5m from this year and his projected NFL career is now in question.

I was thinking about this earlier and wondering if IU would start looking into this now. Can’t afford that kind of thing to hurt your program.

UC should have to pay the price as well. Extorting money from a dumb college kid who needs help because he's an addict is an even worse look. Lack of institutional control is the least of what they should have coming. They knew and didn't turn him in or help him. If he had stayed at UC, nobody would be in the know. Because he left and got into a p*ssing match with them, UC decided to play hardball. He's not absolved of responsibility. Gambling is a widespread problem amongst young college kids. But the university officials should have known better and cared enough about him to get him the help he needed while saving their own hyde by reporting as soon as they found out. Sorsby wouldnt have gone to TTU and nobody would be in this situation...no suing for money from UC and no loss by TTU of a QB. Sorsby then would have been forced into rehab like he is now but from the University that found out about this before entering the portal. While I understand he owes them money per their contract, this feels more like extorting given they knew and didnt self report.
-
They do not. Some QB from Tulsa that was mid and their backup last year tore his ACL so if he comes back, it won't be until a few games in. By all accounts, he probably needed to sit another year behind someone as his outings last year were inconsistent at best.
-
Article posted that UC knew and covered it up. We definitely dodged a bullet. I wonder if sending him to rehab is trying to save some type of eligibility? Not sure that can happen since he bet on games his team played in at IU. Kid has wrecked his future. Sad as he was likely going to go in round 1 next year if he had the year projected at TTU.
-
Oh for sure. Just wasn't sure if they could leverage anything against us now aside from vacating those 4 wins from 2022.
-
Many many online clammoring for IU to have some sort of punishment for Sorsby as well. If you had no knowledge of it in 2022 and he wasn't playing, what could IUFB be liable for? Coach and player both gone.

(2026) DL Kevontay Hugan to Indiana

Have we heard anymore or was he dressed at the spring game? -
(2027) DL Jalen Brewster (5*) to TTU
skhoosier2 replied to Pagoda's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I forgot about CJ. I don't doubt we will have more. TTU is just recent and since he's committed there already that may be a factor to recruiting against us (not to mention for OSU who also had their top guys on D go in rounds 1-2). I am not at all concerned. Look at how Ndukwe has developed. We've got talent there in our young guys not to mention we portalled the K State guys who if they develop may go as well. It's a real shame Wyatt and Daly were hurt because I have no doubt with the year they were both having they would have been drafted as well. More concerned about losing our staff that develops these guys so well. How much longer do we keep Kuntz before he gets poached? -

TTU had plenty of their D drafted. I think that matters. IU only putting ponds in round 2 and then Aiden late may have some implications on the higher rated recruits. We are still getting them out of the portal and developing the talent we have so I think once we get some of our line guys in we will be in business (assuming we don't lose Haines). -

And Nowakowski was only here a year...imagine what 3 years will do for some of these guys. -
IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates
skhoosier2 replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
It's great we are getting interest from all of these prospects. Who would have ever thought? The top recruit in the nation looking at IUFB LOL a few years ago that seemed like a pipe dream. It will be a great day whenever we sign our first 5 star recruit but stars really aren't that critical given our staff's development. Our program is in great hands for years to come! -

He's one I really thought we'd get. But as it seems with everyone we go hard after, the bigger dawgs swoop in and catch the interest of the recruit. Even with a natty, it's still a bit harder for IU to land some of these guys against OSU/Texas/Alabama et al. I wouldn't think he'd choose UNC but with the hs coach having ties and Belicheck's NFL ties who knows. Of any of these recruits in the class, he's the one I really want the most. -
I will still be very shocked if he stays home to play at IU. I see him ending up at Alabama or OSU...or maybe whoever pays him the most (ie Texas?). He's definitely one that shouldn't commit anywhere until he signs on the dotted line (none of them should really because it doesn't seem to mean a whole lot).

IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates
skhoosier2 replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
One of my first thoughts when I saw the reports of gunfire. So disappointing on any given day but even more so when it’s this big of a recruitment weekend. -
Was there bad feedback on Hemby? I think he was certainly better than the RB drafted from UK a few picks back.
-
His football IQ and high motor make me pause with some LB that have gone ahead of him. I know measurables are so big when scouting but he’s got intangibles that can’t be measured. I hope we see his name come off the board soon.
-
Happy for Coogan. Still baffled Aiden hasn’t gone yet. Feels like Hemby may go next.
-
Where do we have Fisher going? I actually thought he’d go in round 5.
-
Was disappointed this is who the Bears picked. My wife said everyone on X was clamoring for him to be picked and she kept saying he sucked against IU what am I not seeing here? We both hoped the Bears would go D line. It sounded like they did try to trade up but the price was too steep.
