The program trashed itself. This is just fans reacting to what they are witnessing. -

Yes. Aside from Quinn, the market looked at his poor coaching track record and decided he was an NBA Assistant level coach. He was probably making around $1M/yr doing that. Woody couldn’t make anywhere remotely close to $4M/yr outside of IU. -

Ha, by refusing to answer, he tells us quite a bit. Sounds like a disciplinary issue… -

Maybe my intel is off, but it seems we're struggling a bit to get her much NIL? If so, that stinks. The growth of the WBB program under her leadership has been excellent and seeing attendance grow over the years has been awesome. I'm sure she'll be fine, but if we could get her some more resources for players that would be great. IUWBB could be a top-5 program -- we have the coach, fan interest, and facilities. Perhaps the rev share will help -- we can chip off some of that $22M/yr to WBB. -

So painful. Gonna suck watching him tear it up in college knowing he was IU’s to lose and Woody did just that. -

Archie looked like a good hire from a distance. I was excited. But, none of us were in those coaches interviews to get all the detailed information -- personalities, their visions for IUBB, why they thought they would succeed at IU like they did at their current job, what resources they wanted, reference checks, etc. As fans we don't get all that key detail. This is where the AD has to earn their big bucks and determine which coaches will translate to IU and which ones won't. It's hard, but that's the key judgement call we need Scott to get right. Fred got it wrong with Archie unfortunately. -

It will be interesting to see what the rev share contracts look like. NIL deals are obviously private, but for public schools I'm sure journalists (or forum posters) will FOIA the players' rev share contracts. There won't be transfer fees, but perhaps we see buyouts in those rev share contracts. That would be a good thing imo -- some compensation for the school that developed the player, and it makes transfers a bit more costly, which could reduce the number of transfers. I don't think the buyouts will be large, but just having those in there would be useful. We'll see. In general, I'm glad players are getting paid, but as part of that I'd like to see the employee/employer relationship professionalized more than it is now -- as is contracts that look like the pro ones. -

'86 per another poster's analogy. Hopefully this is what our program looks like post-Woodson, it's definitely a clunker right now. -

He's a POS. Though it’s probably a benefit the women’s team didn’t have to listen to him — he’s a loser. -

Top-5 NIL in the portal era will fund a restoration that takes two years max. Firing Woody after two years wouldn’t make sense, but if Woody was let go after last year they would understand it was a disaster and they likely wouldn’t be worried. As long as they make progress each year they will get four+ years no problem. -

My guess is Woody skips town once he is canned. Without the $4.2M/yr and status as HC he has no use for IU. The Whiskey Lodge / Fellas Lounge should be bulldozed (or maybe a dramatic implosion?) for symbolic purposes. Sort of like when a dictator is overthrown and the statues and other symbols of that person are destroyed as the people reclaim their country. -

Well, Doherty had an ACC title and AP Coach of the Year to earn him more time and he wasn't fired for cause. Billy Clyde I believe was, he is likely a good serious misconduct example. As a side note it's kinda funny TT hired him... right on brand for them. Another way to put it: would UK, UNC, or KU give Woody a 4th year? We'll never know, but I doubt it. And the point remains coaches aren't scared off when they see a poor coach like Woodson fired, and there are costs to keep coaches like Woody around. A good organization moves quickly on replacing bad leaders regardless of perceived industry norms, it's always better to bite the bullet and move on, it only gets worse/harder as more time passes. -

I’m not sure it discourages future candidates. Any incoming coach would see Woody’s three year track record and think wow that’s not great I’ll do much better than that with top-5 NIL and have a long stint at IU. Coaches are a confident bunch. UK got rid of Billy Clyde after two years and UNC fired Doherty after three. Those are programs behaving in a serious manner. Of course you could point to differences in those situations, but Woody’s year three was so bad on the court and recruiting, plus with knowledge of how he operates, there was a solid case to move on after three years. The buyout would be $4M more back then, but there are downsides to keep him around such as declining revenue/donations and wasted NIL. I agree getting the hire right is key and schools will try to give coaches time, and I think they should try to give coaches time, but it was pretty clear last year there were serious issues that justified moving on. But, we didn’t. We’ll see what happens this over the next three months. -

Yea, and that would be not a Tom Allen fluke is all I’m saying. Only thing that gives me hope for the next BB hire breaking our 25 year run of mistakes is what happened with FB. -

FB may take a step back, it’s hard not to, but this staff and program have little in common with Allen. Staff, NIL, and recruiting are quite different. -

Yea. I don’t get this at all. Any well run organization gets rid of bad executives asap. IUBB does the opposite. -

I’m guessing we paid them quite a bit more than anyone else would. Also, admittedly, those two improved last year. This year not going as well. -
Didn't look like Tennessee would survive in the B1G. I guess this is the world we'll have to live in as we push to get better in football. ESPN/Kirk, Paul, etc. shilling for the conference they have a contract with or just saying things to try and juice ratings. It's not good for CFB, but unfortunately it is what it is.

Sheesh. We were picked dead last or second to last in the conference and made the playoff from a very difficult starting position. We just got one of the top two QBs in the portal and next year’s roster is looking pretty good, though of course the portal isn’t done yet. Rome wasn’t built in a day, we can’t prove everything in one year. There is some serious program building being done on the FB side. And FB is a helluva lot more important than BB, it actually can make a lot of money and help the whole athletic dept. Got to give it some time. -

Same here. FB is putting forth a serious and competent best effort to be good. It’s wonderful to follow and worthy of support. Of course we all wish we played a lot better at OSU and ND, but I’m not mad or upset because I know everyone in that program is competent and doing their best, and there will be ups and downs as they push to improve. Are we putting further a serious and competent best effort on bball? Lmao. Not at all. -

One of the all time stupid moves. Not only are we still struggling the court, we let Woody spend $6M on a roster that isn't close to what we should get for that much money, and he flubbed another high school class, including some very talented in-state kids. The damage this idiot does to IUBB is insane and each day it gets to be more and more work to fix.
