FB being good is a good thing for BB. FB is the only sport with a serious ROI. If FB can take off, our athletic dept revenue will increase significantly, like $10, 20, 30M increases. BB will be fine, I don't think Cook/Simon are going to abandon it. Our issue is obviously the terrible coach we have. We have one of the most expensive rosters in the country and one of the largest budgets to run the program -- we literally cannot give Woodson much more than we have. And he's managed to completely waste pretty much all of it, honestly it's sort of impressive.

No on NIL since those are private deals, but on the rev share side that's paid by the athletic depts and I assume journalists will FOIA the public schools and get the players' contracts. So we'll know the rev share side of the player's compensation. Agree, I like an experienced QB over a freshman. It's just tough to learn the college game quickly -- of course some can do it, but it's tough. Mendoza has two years of eligibility which is great.

With the rev share coming in at $16-18M or whatever to supplement NIL, I’d guess that’s what juicing these players deals so much.

I’m fine with bball getting a lot of NIL for the new coach. The new coach, Scott, and donors do need some better procedures in place to avoid doing stuff like paying Leal $400K. He’s worth half that and the remaining $200K needs to be saved or go elsewhere (other bball players or FB).

The longer he stays, the more damage he causes. It's such a shame we didn't move on from Woody last year. It was so obvious. Instead, we let him waste $6M in NIL, recruit a mediocre portal class, basically whiff on an entire HS recruiting class, and likely deliver another crappy season that further erodes fan interest and the IUBB brand. If we had hired a new coach, we could be eight months into the road to recovery right now. The $6M could have been better spent and I'd guess our HS recruiting class would be much better. Plus we could be winning right now. It's a shame. IUBB is still very special and it shouldn't be neglected like this. It can be so much more for the players, university, and fans.

Yea. Not fun waiting to see where these two sign. We need 'em, and some OL, and some edge rushers. And we have to keep our key guys until the portal closes in six days. Cig said 80% of the good portal players are signed already. Going to be a huge week!

That’s right. Dead period just refers to in person contact. During dead period the portal is still open and recruiting can happen electronically.

Likely has to be this weekend, the dead period (no visits) starts Monday and runs through Jan 5th.

It's amazing what was accomplished in one year -- from a team that needs 4 OTs to beat Akron to a team that smashes bad teams and consistently beats okay teams. Our ceiling is clearly good teams on the road. Upgrading and developing the talent to be consistently top-15, if we can do it, will take time. There is just no way around it. Fingers crossed we can do that.

This is the latest. Something is in the works, but the scope, cost, and renderings are not complete or announced yet. The $10M cited in the AI article is wrong/made up. That said, I’m looking forward to whatever IU actually does!
