  1. I've got a lot of empathy for the politics Scott has to navigate. Ideally you would have the President, AD, and Board all collectively helping to establish a line with donors in terms of what they get in return. This can be done with tact to keep donors on side. I doubt that happens.
  2. He was going after Born Ready, Ebanks, and some others that may have been just fine, but maybe not. There was Bud Mackey too -- not good. I'm not saying the team has to be all saints, but it can go too far the other way.
  3. That's fair, but it still indicates some character issues.
  4. I don't know. The drug stuff was true and most of that team stopped going to class and our APR was terrible (lost two schollies IIRC). Maybe Tom could have kept one or two more guys than he did if he really wanted, but I can't blame him for cleaning house. I don't understand why Kelvin recruited some of those guys. He's been great at Houston. Personally I don't hate Kelvin like a lot of people. If I were IU I would have tried to make it work with him by tearing up those dumb call/text records and telling him that he needs to recruit a team that will keep up the APR and not break so many rules.
  5. Agree, it helps. FB is the only sport that really matters revenue wise, and watching the program being run properly has been a total pleasure. We'll have ups and downs going forward, future seasons won't always be THIS good, but it's nice knowing we are putting forth a competent best effort. That's all we can ask for. It's awesome. This bball season is almost certainly toast. It's very unlikely we compete for the conference. I think we'll play better and make the tourney, but have a not so great seed. Woody has a well documented history of losing big on neutral floors, meaning we probably can't do anything in the tournament. Not good, and it doesn't have to be this way.
  6. We need to add a helicopter to our fleet for this...
  7. Bingo. Look at how Scott identified Cig, quickly built a relationship and trust with Cig, and closed the deal. It seems the only other person who was brought in to play a role in the hiring process was Pam. That's perfect, two people. The donors are greatly appreciated, but they need to realize they're only good at the $ aspect and any further involvement is detrimental. Cig continues to reference Scott and also Pam as the reason he is here. This is how things should work. Thankfully Quinn didn't have any best pals that coach football.
  8. I can confirm this. I still think he's a longshot and I don't think he ever comes here, but you've got to try and there is no harm in trying.
  9. There is only one reason you hire a candidate no other school would even think to hire.
  10. $5M going down $1M each year. Easy peasy.
  11. Vanderbilt NIT game levels…
  12. Interestingly he said the same thing when he was interviewing for the Knicks job in 2020. Shame they didn't rehire him. "I did my job when I was here," Woodson said. "We won games. The fan base was engaged. I walked out of the Garden many nights thinking that the fans were proud and excited about what we were doing. Am I capable of coming back to New York and helping them build a winning team again? I feel confident in that, I absolutely do."
  13. His buyout is $5M and goes down $1M each year. Not great, but doable.
  14. I hate to type this, but I feel good about Brad figuring out the NIL-era if he ever wanted to. Everything he touches turns to gold or close to it: the improbable Butler runs, he did pretty well as the Celts coach (7/8 years in playoffs, three conference finals appearances), and then he figured out the GM job and they won a championship thanks to some of his key personnel moves. GM of the Celts is a much tougher job than executing an NIL strategy. 0.1% chance he comes here, but just saying. Fortunately, I think any coach adept in modern basketball that we can plug into our NIL will do well here.
  15. It's a shame -- we have easier transfer rules than UM and more NIL. He would have fit in very well here too. He could end up being another big "what if" in the history of IUBB.
  16. IIRC, there was a rumor he was on a jet to Bloomington and then we announced Crean. Those were the days.
  17. Per X (@pos_josh): For the first time in his tenure, Mike Woodson is not shown on the video board walking out of the locker room. No cheers, no boos. Just a coach walking onto the floor.
  18. I know we keep in touch with him. I doubt he ever comes here. And I don’t blame him, our bball program is a mess.
  19. Ha, I’m not surprised to hear that. That sort of meeting just needs two, three at most people from IU. But of course we took our giant group of “stakeholders” there and botched it. Classic.
  20. I doubt she was that challenging. We just don’t know what we’re doing, so she appears challenging.
  21. He may still want to coach, but it's got to be pretty fun moving pieces around on an NBA team and that directly leads to making NBA finals and now winning a championship.
  22. In the end these boards are just entertainment. Same with IU sports. I've been on the IU rivals board for 20 years, I'm ashamed I can't make the connection on Cathy's handle over there lol.
  23. The worst thing is there is no oversight over him. No accountability. He is negligent and ruins things from a distance with no repercussions.
  24. Yea, she really reinforces how badly IUBB is run. It's incredible.
