Perhaps a separate thread called "I'm Upset with the General Coach Candidate News Thread" would be useful? Posters could discuss candidates they don't like being mentioned, or how they don't like that everyone doesn't agree with them. /s

Bad start this morning...

BAN ISAAC!!!

This is not true.

Doubtful. CBB coaches all recognize Mike was given significant resources and he did a bad job and he deserved to be fired. That said, getting CBB coaches to move jobs is tough. IUBB offers significant resources and a big payday... but I'm not sure who will bite on that.
-
Honestly, it won't work, but I wouldn't put this past him. Someone had a great quote on this board (I don't recall the poster) -- Mike will do anything to save his job, except his job. He could not be a more difficult person right now behind the scenes. IU needs to be careful with giving him the mic on senior night. I cannot wait for his tenure to end.
-
He may be doing that, I don't know, but it's not his call thankfully. Also, Mike is clearly not happy -- he's lashed out at a few folks I know around IUBB. Not good.

I kinda hope this flops. People from Boston, Simmons especially, don’t seem to realize the rest of the country does not give a **** about Boston.

Ban Isaac!!! ;-)

On that note I’m really looking forward to playing UK again. I miss the rivalry and beating them is great. I hope we can do that more often than not in the NIL era (pre-NIL it was tough with how they paid under the table).

FOX feels like a much needed upgrade after NBC got stale and stopped trying last year when they were lame ducks. Great ads, commentary seems good, new graphics, new camera angles, and better mixed audio. I like it. Hopefully it boosts ratings this year too. Edit: This IR-18 is getting long in the tooth and after adding the aero screen and hybrid it really doesn’t race too well outside the Indy oval. To be clear I love the safety of the aeroscreen, just saying it didn’t help with this old chassis.

I really hope we can get Otz or Lloyd. That would be a relief. I just have no idea if our higher level of resources will shake them loose. $2M+ more for players every year can make a very big difference, that’s two elite players on a roster. But getting bigger name coaches to move is tough. Scott and Pam’s pitch will be key. Of course may be they already got it done? Idk.

Last 20 years: 17 conference titles and two natties with the latest one being three years ago. Literally an incredible run. One down year and reading the forums and articles it appears the fans are pretty upset with Self and the players despite all the aforementioned success. Seems like that’s a worse “fishbowl” than the IU job…

My channel guide has not updated yet to reflect the press conference. I’m trying to figure out if it’s on FS1 or FS2?

In my opinion Rick is a top-5 CBB coach of all time, maybe top-3. Brad would likely do very well. Rick is up there, I have a hard time factoring in how much his age would be an issue.

I like it. Different designs are cool as long at is includes something unique to IU. The Fear of God jerseys had nothing related to us — bad. This has the script Indiana — good!

Pitino would have been a great hire in 2001. Shame that search committee didn’t interview anyone… He would have won a lot if he got the job back then, maybe a title, though we probably would have had navigate some sort of off court incident when he was here lol. Overall he likely would have been a big net positive. Just another what-if in IUBB lore.

On the other hand he is currently in the desert 1,500 miles from rainy Washington state. There ain’t a great bball job in the PNW and he seems willing to move around. All I can find on his new buyout is it is “seven figures,” so at least it went down to some extent. Agree he won’t be cheap.

Their athletic dept has financial issues (including NIL) and word is Tommy may not get along great with their AD. That’s why I mention him as a possibility, though how much of a possibility I don’t know. I would be excited if we got him. Good metrics and he can handle this job.

I think that's fair, though personally I'm fine with down years being worse than that as long as there is a reason (injuries, bad luck, etc.) and there is a clear plan for improvement with incoming recruits, new assistants, and/or a strategy change. I think it's a good sign IU and Scott made it clear limping into the tourney this year after imploding last year isn't good enough given the significant resources provided to the program. I also think the poor effort and incompetence behind the scenes factored into Woody getting fired, which is good too.

RIP Centel :-(

I'd guess a 20% chance we have a coach search in 3-4 years. 1) Most of the factors that caused us to make bad hires over the last 25 years are not present this time around. It's been pretty well sourced this is Scott's show and Trustees/Donors/Presidents that don't know what they are doing are not meddling this time around. 2) Scott proved he can make a good hire 15 months ago. I'm not sure what else can be more reassuring right now, he literally just successfully did what we need him to do right now. 3) We have never held a coach search when IUBB can offer top-5 player payroll resources. Also, many athletic depts outside the B1G and SEC are struggling as the revenue share cost hits this year. The IU job is more appealing than it has been historically. Coaches can afford a materially better roster at IU than they can at many other schools. This should help.
