This is an interesting point. A lot of reasons to see why he wouldn't come. However I've been watching the Vice program about his time he's had at St. John's. Due to the work he's had to do to get facilities up to speed, and all of the extras he's had to do, that it's been his least enjoyable 2 years and he hasn't had time to embrace the fanbase. If that was the direction we went and he hung #6, I'm sure his opinion would hold weight in terms of our next hire. It should hold weight now and perhaps it does.

IUBB vs Purdue - Sunday, 02.23.25 @ 1:30 on CBS

Many of us pitched exactly what Woody has finally gotten around to doing. I'm not sure how many expected Leal to be heavily involved, but it's still, split the bigs, you can't play two and Mgbako because they can't defend etc. If Woody on the way out gives us inspiring basketball the remainder of the year, then that's good for the fans. -

The Pitino endorsement may give us hope.

Someone mentioned Crutchfield D2. I like that idea. He built W. Liberty and moved on. Ben Howlett is another name to look at if we're talking D2. Out standing coach, very similar to Nate Oats except he does teach defense. Hes only 38.
-
I'm looking for something like this.
-
I'm on Beard......I mean board with this.
-
He's the best x's and o's coach I've seen in a very long time. I love the movement and how quick his players process from moment to moment. I know a couple of D2 coaches pretty well and they say Ben is the gold standard. Sisley would thrive under him.

McCollum is a smart guy, he waited a few years to get the right job for his next step up the ladder. I think he'll be at Drake until he feels like he can be an impact p4 coach at the right opportunity. He can coach.

IU coaching Elite 8 and losers bracket

Should we be voting who we want or who seems most realistic? -
I've got a name for everyone that wants a young guy that can coach. Ben Howlett at West Liberty D2

Does anyone think it won't be Dusty? 7y-50m and incentives? I think he has a signing bonus of 1.5 ish to repay if he leaves before April 1.That shouldn't hold us back. Buyout is low. He's not everyone's #1 choice but probably in everyone's top 3. Then we can start the speculation about the roster.

Helluva x's and o's guy. Very bright and he'd be starting from scratch here. He's no Paint Samptino though. That's the name of my imaginary coaching candidate based on the qualities that I want in a coach.
-
I want Paint Samptino as our coach. Painter off the court with a dash of his offensive flexibility to go along with a combination of Sampson and Pitino's consistent toughness and relentless effort on the court. I can tell you what Houston and St John's are going to look like the next 5 years and no one looks forward to playing them. That's the perfect blend of identity, culture and intangibles. You've had to live a little to have their qualities. Had to have been around the block a bit and overcome some adversity, to include mistakes. Embedding yourself in the high school coaching community is a must. Understand we had 25 years of the Bob Knight Show. We like to know ****. We want to be in on it as a fanbase. I'd bet the house it's going to be Dusty and he'll be fine, ok even good. But his teams won't be Samptino.

Are you at liberty to divulge? If someone can prove he has a track record of violence towards women, I'll jump off the Beard bus.
-
I've not heard that, not saying it isn't true though. If we go in another direction hopefully we'll hear something.
-
I don't know. Arkansas is the one school I know about that did. Cal took it and he got a raise.
-
Ole Miss THOROUGHLY vetted the man. Got him on the cheap for a year, signed him to an extension and he negotiated a minimal buyout. If IU wants him, he'll be vetted again. That should be enough.
-
I wouldn't suggest this guy for us but if there was ever a coach that deserved to have something to work with, it's Ben Johnson. The lack of resources at Minnesota makes it impossible to win there.
-
I want a consistent year in, year out identity of gritty, maximum effort, toughness, bare knuckle basketball. That requires a culture that reflects a personality type. I believe that's what IU nation would embrace. That's who we are I think. We're a gritty, basketball-educated fan base that sees through gimmick, half-assed basketball. Dusty would be successful but I have no idea what a Dusty culture would look like. Toughness will win a lot of games and when matched with talent you have a juggernaut. The coaches out there that I admire for that are Sampson, Pitino, Beard and Otzweiler. 3 of those have had issues. 2 of those are old. Otzweiler isn't leaving his wife's school. I keep coming back to Beard.
-
I would say we're in agreement on that.
-
How about the winner of the Miss St vs Ole Miss game ne our next coach.
