I have been surprised how heated the Beard discussions have gotten. It's been social exercise of sorts hasn't it? I've done some self-reflection. I identify with Beard because we are similar in age. I coached. I was an established drinker, and it earned me night in jail. I had a girlfriend that lived with me that I absolutely wanted to choke the pi55 out of before I could rid of her. A well regarded 30yo young man got out there and won the ground between I70 and the Ohio River. He spoke at every event he could get into, and brought in as many high school coaches as he could to his coaching clinics. In 4 years the majority of the coaches in s. Indiana were running motion and playing help side m2m defense. Every kid in the state was pre-packaged to play IU basketball. Duplicate that out of the gate and be able to inspire a high level of effort on both ends of the court and you'll be off on the right foot. There should be several guys out there capable of that. Its mind blowing that if you are the age Coach was when he built the fanbase, you never experienced IU greatness or how it came to be. I can't wrap my mind around that.

I think the die-hard Beard people, to include me, have Otzelberger as an acceptable other choice. When you look at Iowa States roster of remaining eligibility for next year and his recruiting class, he gains a lot of momentum. Did you see Beard standing on a chair after they beat Tenn last night, looking out over the crowd? I could get used to that in Bloomington.

UNLV is a bad gig.

Iowa State has 8 players on their roster that have eligibility beyond this year and 5 recruits signed. 3 of which are 4☆ talents. Otzelberger is the best candidate that isn't a fantasy or "controversial. There's a world where we keep our recruiting class and a couple of his to go along with 5 guys of this year's cyclone roster. Could we flip Braylon? Maybe Goode gets the extra year. In a scenario like this, I don't care to see any off the rest of our current roster back.
