Leary needs to sit in jail until he figures some things out. BUT on another note, this 21C phenomenon of parents paying for all these sports coaches is crazy. Especially in basketball. I could see it for highly specialized things…maybe…like QB or pitching or golf. But basketball? Just go play. Ask your JV or freshman coach for some drills. Someone paying Todd Leary to train them in basketball is comical to me. He can’t teach you anything that your buddies dad who played a couple years of Div 3 couldn’t show you for free in 15min in the driveway. Parents, I’m begging you: please stop sending your kids to what amounts to expensive babysitting. Or give money to Todd Leary.

“Philosophically we love to shoot 3’s.” -CDD Some fans are going to experience whiplash at the beginning of the season.

One of the more unlikely college basketball “celebrities “ I can remember. 106 years is a long life! For reference she would have been an adult already for IU and Branch McCracken’s FIRST title team. In fact, she was only about 10 yrs younger than Branch.

They should make the game better by having less stoppages for timeouts and replays. But they won’t. The NBA didn’t. Straight money grab.

If you have xfinity internet they have a bundle deal. I have so many of these stupid subscriptions, that I swore I’d never get… Also I’m pretty sure the peacock deal they switch the dates every year. I got it the first year and then missed it last year because I signed up to watch a football game. So you’ll have to pay attention.

On top of that you always have one or two teams who have a booster go all out in any given year. O$U was reported to be considerably higher than #2 last year. I don’t know where UM was the year before but that one billionaire (Ellison maybe) reportedly shelled out like $3-5mil for their QB because his new girlfriend was a UM grad and wanted him too. I had read somewhere that this might be Texas this year. So you could probably draw a distinct line between the top 5-10 and everyone else and then again between the top 1-2 spenders in any given year when an ultra- wealthy booster gets frisky.

This is what I’m disagreeing with. The committee will look to big wins and metrics before bad losses. ND last year is a good example. Their loss to N Illinois was worse than PSUs at UCLA. As others have pointed out, in the extremely unlikely event PSU runs the table they’d have a 10-2 record that is better than almost anyone’s. A close loss to a conf bad team on the road won’t keep you out so much as not having good wins, imo. ND could be on the other side of the ledger at 10-2 with the two “best” losses but not a single good win and I don’t think anyone thinks they’ll get in. Currently it looks like there is a good chance there will be more 10-2ish type teams than spots available. That is one big reason we need Illinois to keep rolling. They should help our cause quite a bit.

If they run the table they’ll have wins over IU and OSU and will have a great shot at being in. Having a win over an equal 2 loss IU team would probably put them in over IU. Losing a close one on the road in conference will be what is remembered, not the giant spread. Bama didn’t make it last year due to having 3 losses. Some people still wanted them in. I think any B1G/SEC teams with only 2 losses will be in contention this year.

lol….no. I couldn’t imagine a way to know anything less about what is going on than listening to the basketball media. Devries could suck…like I care. Same thing for 25 years going. I’m used to it. One thing I know for sure is someone named Norlander/Parrish will have zero idea of how it’s going to go down.
-
Yep. Just stay in the top 4 of the B1G

No coaches would. It gets handed off to a grad assistant. Same as their votes in the actual coaches poll.

Archie was hamstrung because he sucked at coaching. Period. And everyone loved him and he won those offseason polls. I wouldn’t pay attention to them. Those polls are voted on by the likes of Mike Woodson and Fran and Crean and a bunch of other coaches who want to fill out media surveys. Literally worthless.
-
He’s going to win the PR game at least.

Even with sub optimal athletic talent you should be above those bad Fran and crean teams with competent coaching. I hope we don’t see that. It would be troubling to be 100ish or worse in D-eff

The defense played well and won the game for us. But those early completions were often on obvious passing downs—3rd and 5 or longer—and we just played soft coverage there. I sensed the strategy was more just don’t let them get anything big over the top, which is a perfectly viable strategy. Ordinarily, that would’ve been enough to let our offense pull away, but really it was the offense that struggled. I’m not entirely convinced that that soft zone cover on 3rd down would’ve held up late in a close game if Gronkowski didn’t go down (and IU may well have adjusted). In any event it is all academic now. The D came up big when they needed to on the road. I think Iowa is pretty tough but they have a tough schedule and probably won’t have a great record at the end. Maybe they can knock off one of PSU or Oregon.

Funny that the euros pee down their leg the last day tho. Had they not gifted hoveland a half point things might be different. Either way, the USA has to figure out how to compete in the team portion.

And Michigan beat the Alabama team SEC fans wanted in over teams like IU. Once other schools started paying players the SEC magic seems to have vanished. (Oddly enough that doesn’t apply in basketball). They’re crazy. He has them as good as they’ve been since the 90’s.
