I just read the quotes, and it might’ve been Devries not Dolson, but they basically said what people like to say here: misjudged the Big Ten, current players aren’t good enough (by implication), getting better players in the future.

Most of these guys are like 23, to be fair. Also, Devries and Dolson went on the radio the other night and told the whole world how bad the players were. Does it really matter if we say the same on a message board?

You got to, to even be interested the next three years. For my sanity, I’m breaking the odds down thusly: 1-1.5% chance Devries pulls an Underwood/Hurley/Golden and goes from zero to hero. 75% chance that with Carr and our NIL we’ll field average tourney teams for 3 years before either moving on to the next guy or entering the spiral of hell by offering an extension. 23.5-24% chance we’re entering the Archie Experience 2.0

If there’s anyone who has proven they know what it takes to succeed as head basketball coach at IU, it’s radio personality Dan Dakich.

What I’ve learned the last few weeks is this roster is about as talented as .500 2A high school squad. Devries used his Xs and Os acumen to turn this sorry band of wimps, losers, and reprobates into a competitive bottom half of the B1G squad. One more season like this and we’ll have to run over to Canton and push apart the busts of Knight and Woodson to make room for Devries.

I’m still kind of surprised we lost that game. We literally had to keep the offense humming for 40min vs a poor defensive team, and we turned in that performance? I didn’t expect to beat Purdue or necessarily make the tourney, but that was just a bad way to go out.

This is 100% verifiably wrong. Just completely wrong. HE WAS ON PROBATION AT OKLAHOMA. We inherited that. Oklahoma…home of Barry Switzer and Mark Stoops…was where he was first caught and put on probation. Not only would other schools have done what IU did, but EVERY school not as pious as Oklahoma (so all of them) would’ve done it. That’s how stupid Simpson was. Had nothing to do with IU.

I brought it up earlier but I probably wouldn’t have said anything. The timing was weird. Why go out and call your players a steaming pile of garbage when they have tourney games in a couple days? No kidding NW played harder…their coach loves them and their coach and AD didn’t go on the radio and tell the fanbase how awful they were two days earlier. WTF were Dolson and Devries thinking?

His first Drake tourney team didn’t have his kid. It did have a bunch of Indiana kids though. Looking at his profile this summer, that gave me hope. He just looks way in over his head. Coaching at Indiana is so much more than about coaching basketball. the late great Lou Holtz had a quote about that about coaching at Notre Dame, and about how the hardest part wasn’t the actual coaching. Guys like Archie, and maybe Devries, are just small time. It’s why I was adamantly against Beard…no way that loser can handle the crucible that is IU.

They’re about the same in metrics too. The idea that Devries did anything special there last year is not looking good.

Not you, that’s been mentioned by a bunch of people. Here and other places. The question is: did they suck or were they building something? Devries stunk this year even independent of the roster. And we’re not bringing anything back. Wanna compare him to Golden (because Hurley and Underwood didn’t even start in the NIL era)? Ok, go land an all star guard in the portal plus two pro level bigs and win a title in the next two years. Because that’s what Golden did. Comparing him to Kelsey and McCollum and Odom is being nice because they haven’t done much except be competent in year 1. But people don’t like those comparisons.

True…I hate Archie so I shouldn’t have mentioned him. Lol But an early season stumble versus getting beat by a lesser team twice to cost you a tourney birth at the end of the year is tough. Just an all time fumble

Correct. So much cope in the last few weeks. I get it. But people can’t even admit he flat out sucked as a coach this year. But don’t worry. I’m an optimist. He’s gonna be an Underwood/Golden/Hurley. They sucked in year 1 too right?
