They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
IUCrazy2 replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Bob Kravitz was on with Coyle a week or so ago and Coyle brought up the great 2025 Indiana recruiting class. Kravitz said, "Yeah, with that great class coming you gotta give Woodson some time." He didn't realize Coyle meant state of Indiana class. Kravitz knows less than we do. -

Mike Woodson is too bleeping lazy to do the job. He isn't even doing the minimum requirements. You could almost live with a down year if you had any semblance of possible positive change on the horizon. We have nothing. We have a lazy a$$ mailing it in and an administration that believes that is worth another try at $4 million a year. We're a joke. -
Bill Guthridge (left in 2000), Matt Doherty (fired in 2003), then Roy Williams hired.

How is this for toxic, anyone blaming the fans can sit on a cheese grater and rotate.
-
How much do they pay you to come on to message boards and defend their incompetence? Or did you really wake up at like 6 this morning and say to yourself, "You know what, today is the day I get on a basketball forum and decide to tell all these other fans just how toxic they are and how much we need to just let Woody do his thing..."

It will be too late by then. I bet he is committed to Kansas before the tournament starts. -

Removed tweet, didn't see the f-bomb in the original. -
Respectfully, F that noise. You can absolutely fire the guy. We just have people that don't want to. So we are going to do the Indiana thing and let this festering boil of a relationship go another year.
-
You need to check your math. Right now we have an open scholarship, Leal, Walker, Johnson, and Ware gone or most likely gone. That gets you down to 8 scholarship players. Banks and Gunn appear to be likely gone. Down to 6, 1 of whom had a severe injury and hasn't played basketball competitively in a year and a half. If you only add 3 guys you can't even scrimmage 2 teams of scholarship players to practice. Now, will there still be basketball played at Indiana if Woodson burns the program to the ground again? Yes. However, you are looking at the program being in worse shape than every coach we have fired since Knight was let go with the exception of Sampson. The stupid thing is that this was all foreseeable. People paying attention have been warning about this for awhile.

Woodson's main downfall is going to end up being his laziness. He got his ego hurt that Indiana didn't come to Mike Woodson so he had to get this job to soothe that ego. He doesn't really want to do the job though. You can't run the program in its current condition on flipping autopilot. But this lazy mf'er is basically doing that. Won't go recruit, only wants to do the portal since it gets him out of "coaching" in May so he can enjoy his summer like he did in the NBA. I don't care if Mike Woodson won games for Indiana when I was 2 years old. His legacy is going to be sh** to me if he comes back next year and runs this program into the ground. I never saw him play. He will just be the ******* who stuck around for a job he really doesn't want to do because of his Quinn Buckner's fat @$$ sized ego.

"We" aren't. Nobody gives a crap what we think. If they did we would be talking about who is coaching the team next year. Everyone just needs to stop sending money to these people. The Simon's want to burn their wealth, have at it but they can't fill seats. I also get tired of the "toxic fanbase" BS. I will just stop caring IU and then all of you a-holes will have to find a real job to suck at making way less money than you do. And I don't give a f--- if Dolson was overruled or whatever. Every single person associated with this decision has got to go. Every last one. This was a stupid hire 3 years ago and they know it. And they through another member of the family (Fife) under the bus 2 years ago so why should I give a flying f--- if we throw Woody under it. I was in school with Dane, I never saw Woodson play a minute. So why should I care if he gets unceremoniously tossed out the door and sh** on like he did to Fife?

Unless that is a permanent commitment then who cares? If it is true that Woody thinks he has to build out of the portal every year they are going to have to pony up all that money until he is gone and all that to likely have a ceiling of what he did with 2 NBA draft picks last year. He isn't the answer but leave it to people who made their money off shopping malls to throw their weight behind a coach who is stuck in the 80's and 90's. It is really on brand. -

You will likely need more than that. I think best case scenario you see Banks, Gunn, Walker, Johnson, Leal, and Ware leave. McNeely takes extra scholarship. You need about 4 guards and 2 forwards from the portal IMO. And you need at least half of them to be top of the BIG starter quality. -

Competent coaches don't need a chief of staff. How f---ing stupid is it to have to hire a bunch of people to babysit your $4 million a year coach? Indiana University lights all the money sent its way on fire. Bunch of dumbasses making dumbass decisions that they are never held accountable for. -

There is potentially mutual interest between Pearl and IU and the person standing in the way is Quinn Buckner. Think that about covers it. -

You get that back by winning a bunch of games, not by being arrogant with a near .500 record. Indiana isn't in any place to tell top recruits to commit or else. The "or else" is likely a better option at the moment and they will say "ok" and go elsewhere. -

Sparks was pretty good in the MAC. I think we would be a fine backup guy the rest of his career. You have to have bench players. -

He really is just a troll for interaction at this point. If you watch him on Twitter he will take about any position you could have on an IU related topic and call people who take the other side a moron and by the end of the day he has sided with the morons and is now calling his previous position the moronic one. He has made some money being a contrarian but has leaned so far into it that his opinions become hard to take seriously. Who knows what the real Dakich thinks, we just get ascerbic clown nose Dakich all the time. -

That Fishers team was supposed to have Jalan Harelson on it this year too....to lose that caliber player and still be #1 is impressive. -

I am not advocating for him but if we had to go the IU guy route, the only pick that wouldn't have been borderline suicidal for the program was Alford. He is the only guy who has been fairly successful at being a D1 college coach in the "IU guy" tree. You don't hand the keys to this job to Fife, Lewis, or Woodson. Not for what was needing done at the time. Alford probably wasn't a great pick at the time either, but for the time, he was the ONLY "IU guy" that should have been part of the discussion. The old heads picked Woodson but I think in the past when players talked about getting an IU guy, it was Alford they had in mind. And before I get the "OMG he is awful, no way..." posts, I am saying he was the best option out of the very limited pool of "IU guy" because he was the most known and does have P5 experience and accomplishments he could point to as a head coach. That being said, I think the "IU guy" was a panic hire and we should have reevaluated after choice #1 turned us down. The "IU guy" coaching tree was pretty thin. It still mostly is except you have another guy you could put up there with Alford as maybe being a realistic (if not quite proven) option. -

So some of the people making these arguments don't know what they are talking about. Case in point: Kravitz's initial argument is that Woodson should stay. He then spends the rest of his time providing arguments and agreeing to arguments of why he should go. Additionally, when Coyle talks about the "great 2025 Indiana recruiting class" and Kravitz gets confused and thinks that Indiana University already has a great 2025 recruiting class lined up and has to be corrected...well, a bunch of these blowhard know less about what is going on than us morons, so their opinions are worthless to me. ETA: The whole building a culture argument in the article also neglects the fact that our 66 year old coach wasn't going to be here long to begin with. He was brought in to build a bridge and a culture. He has done neither. He is on the verge of having to bring in 50%+ of next year's team from the portal. Convincing high school kids that he is going to be around for 4 years to build that culture is going to become increasingly harder. This was a stupid gamble to begin with and we are in the middle of crapping out. -

Woodson knows what is going on right now. He doesn't need some @$$ hat at a HS basketball game to come up and rub his nose in it so he can go brag about it on the internet. People who do what he did get written off as a-hole cranks. There are really only a few ways fans are heard. If you got money, like real F you kind of money, you got a direct line to Dolson. If you don't, you need other fans to be where you are and together your power is in optics. A half empty Assembly Hall and people not interacting with the program in significant numbers is how your voice gets heard. And honestly, complaining about things on boards like this or Twitter does the same. The University has people watching the internet discussions.
