    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

I don't have a problem with it and he actually has me a bit excited about IU football, which is a rare thing. It's great now to hear him talk like that and I won't mind it if he wins. If he doesn't win here, it will quickly become old.

It also looked better in the preseason than it does at this point. IU can't help that some of the teams aren't as good as expected.

Why is his finger under his nose? Does that place smell bad?
  4. He (Dexter) is not, he went into the portal. I haven't seen a destination. Likely starting QB would be Rourke, the Ohio transfer.

I'm just wondering what (if any) Woodson's exit strategy is. Is he thinking of getting it decent shape over the next year or two then retiring, is he thinking he'll be coaching for another 10 years, or is he not planning anything and thinks he'll coach until he's tired of it and/or gets fired? Ideally, it would be getting the program into good shape then stepping down but I don't know if ego would allow that.

As a team, it seems to be the latter. It shouldn't be that way but they aren't playing well as a team. Right now the team is less than the sum of its parts, which is frustrating.

5'9" 205 lb. 568 yards on 126 carries (4.5 yds per), 5 TD at JMU. Also 174 yards on 19 receptions (9.2 yds per), 1 TD. Transferred there from Stony Brook (5 seasons). How does he have eligibility left? This will be year 7 for him.. https://jmusports.com/sports/football/roster/ty-son-lawton/19057#:~:text=Played in 27 career games,95 yards and a score https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4367069/ty-son-lawton

You know, I've never seen the committee leave someone out because they didn't beat teams by enough points. If you think about it, the reason should be obvious: if the team isn't very good they'll end up losing enough games and/or having bad losses that they will be eliminated based on those factors and not the point differential. If they are a good team that is just struggling at that point in the season, they'll have enough wins to get into the tournament. W/L record >>> point differential

At least there are reasons to be excited about the football team, so that's new. Is it almost spring practice yet?
  12. Nice pickup. Cignetti has really done a lot in a little time. I can't wait to see IU winning games and actually becoming bowl eligible, and I think he has the program going that direction.

I agree with the length but can't agree with the weight vs mass. Weight is just a way of measuring mass as effected by gravity. Since gravity is the same for everyone, more weight = more mass and equal weight means equal mass. What weight/mass don't tell you is strength or what that mass is made of (fat or muscle) so two people of equal weights could still be quite different in makeup.

    I disagree. I like them.
  16. They have the men at #4 (and I see Purdue dropped out of the rankings): https://swimswam.com/2023-24-ncaa-mens-power-rankings-december-edition/ Women at #9: https://swimswam.com/2023-24-ncaa-womens-power-rankings-december-edition/

JHS was already on the radar by this point in the season. He really impressed a lot of scouts at the the Pro Day. This year it was pretty quiet after that so I'm guessing MM didn't do as well.

Indeed. They should've at least done a real coaching search. But since they didn't he still should've been fired earlier just based on performance.

So you agree they kept Davis around too long. You also say that the others shouldn't have been kept longer. So even if you think they didn't keep Crean and Miller around too long, you do agree that they kept 1/3 of the coaches they fired for performance too long and didn't fire the other 2 too early. In other words, you throw out an argument like you did to say IU doesn't hold on to coaches too long but when broken down you actually agree that they do at least some of the time and don't fire them too soon.

Counting DD disingenuous and intentionally skews the numbers. He was just an interim HC. Let's look at them: Davis: '00-'06. In '03-'04 went 14-15 then the next year 15-14. He still wasn't fired so he was kept around at least 1 year too long although an argument could be made that he should've been let go even earlier. Sampson: Less than 2 seasons as HC. We know why he was fired and it had nothing to do with his W-L record. Crean: '08-'17. Up and down the whole time. It was obvious the whole time he wouldn't be able to consistently field a good team and make the tournament. There are many points in his time at IU that he could've justifiably been fired for that lack of consistency. Especially when you look at APR and player arrests during his time. Miller: '17-'21. Never performed well and looked completely lost while doing so. Should have been fired 1 or 2 years before he was. Which of these coaches do you think should have been kept longer?

Probably. I would hope a person wouldn't do it that poorly.

Umm, the field in that picture. Has the person who made it never seen a football field? it makes my head hurt with how bad it is.

I hope not. I wasn't really enamored with him before he turned out to be a woman beater, now I despise him. I'd have to stop watching IU basketball if he became the coach. I don't see that happening, though.
