(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
HoosierHoopster replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Agree -- nice, short breakdown of things that went wrong after his McD's game and why there's reason for optimism at IU. Malik's passing ability next to him is definitely one of them, but would add Woodson's push for dedication / effort on both ends along with IU's conditioning program. Especially after transferring and with Woodson's knowledge of what it takes to make the League, I'm optimistic on his upcoming season. -
You simply accept a "police report" based on what a TACO BELL employee and Bloomington cops say after they broke his window and dragged him out of the car in what was a clearly non-violent situation. it's your take, it's not fact, you don't know the actual facts, accepting them blindly doesn't make them so. Just going to leave it there.

Don't mean to take this thread off the rails into a discussion of appropriate policing etc., but man there are so many incidents of police over-escalation, violence, etc. and this is an 18 year old kid. I hear you on the officers not being hamstrung by someone who says he needs to call someone -- but honestly, 1) how often does this even happen (almost never), and 2) police often don't have their body cams active (in at least many states there is no legal requirement for body cams as far as I know), and 3) this is an 18 year old sitting in a car at a Taco Bell, how dangerous is that?, and 4) imagine just what this completely non-violent incident could have turned into when they broke his glass and pulled him out of the car?? This could have turned into a horrible incident, it was entirely unnecessary. Really, really glad his arrest and release is all we're talking about.

So while we're going to be moving on from this topic, it's not going away at the moment and valuing your inside view here as I do, was not happy with the Herald Times' reporting or arrest report / "jail records" it appears to be based on -- which is written by Osterman and Nelson at the Star in Indy -- am wondering if you can confirm if the following statements are in fact, based on the info you've received from inside the program, false: - the officers, reported as Bloomington police (not Monroe County sheriff deputies) "told him he needed to leave the property" and he refused, then left but came back and parked "in a space at the restaurant." - the officers continued to tell Mgbacko to leave for the next 15 minutes, resulting in his trespassing charge. - that was when they approached his vehicle and told him to get out, he refused, so they broke his window and forcibly removed him and arrested him -- nothing about his asking for a parent or adult to be present. https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2023/10/22/indiana-hoosiers-basketball-freshman-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-iu-bloomington-police/71280781007/ The story says the typical IU athletics is aware of the situation and is continuing to gather facts. If the above are false, someone in the program should tell the paper to fix their facts once that fact gathering has been done.

Good grief. Doesn’t sit well with my morning coffee — but also not going to jump to conclusions, both are misdemeanor charges and he was quickly released. Sounds like he was somewhere he shouldn’t have been late late on a Sat night, guess we have to wait for the details, not thrilled but also not gonna overreact

Last sentence is the key. Woodson is honest in recruiting, we hear it from all the guys who commit to him/IU, that they have the chance but have to work for it — and the top recruits are looking for immediate and significant playing time, this year we have X and Gallo in the backcourt, even if someone might displace Gallo this year ( no one is displacing X), Gallo’s gonna play a ton, as he should.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA

Lol Woodson - humble :) and yeah that voice - not a college “kid” — Barry White? -
Kenpom is next to useless at this point pre-season. Kenpom stats and predictions only come into line as season builds

Sampson had some great takent to work with, but definitely one of the best DI coaches out there. No accident what he’s done with Houston. If only he cared about NCAA rules and academics
-
Undefeated, IU now the only team to go the distance undefeated— twice!
-
PU is overrated, and really because of Frankenstein returning (as I said bf the draft, he’s not an NBA player). Thing is we are thin at guard. Need X and Gallo to stay healthy. I like Cupps upside and think he’ll earn minutes, and will bring solid pg play. But yeah, we’re thin in the backcourt and with guys who have injury history. Still think we surprise this season
-
That's where I am. For me it's impossible to pick IU's B1G standing now with so many unknowns. We have the talent, athleticism, size, shooting, and both guard and frontcourt experience to be a dangerous team. On the other hand, we're thin at guard, we have backcourt guys who play physical games and get injured, we're an injury or two away from falling fast, we have a potential lotto-first round player from whom we really don't know what to expect, and 'pieces' who we haven't even seen play together. I'm a glass half full guy, and think we're going to end up a good team, but where in the pack, no idea at this point.

All-Time IU “If They Hadn’t Been Hurt” Team
HoosierHoopster replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Don’t know how I forgot that ACL, yeah he could have had a monster soph season -
Good to hear

Edey stubs his big toe, out multiple games, PU craters and finishes dead last. @Stuhoo has to take of leave of absence having injured a rib from laughing so hard at PU. Outside of that, good breakdown :)

On Bako -- shooting can't be overrated in the NBA, every team wants a player with size and length who can drill shots, the comment on worry about his athleticims? Meh
