Last sentence is the key. Woodson is honest in recruiting, we hear it from all the guys who commit to him/IU, that they have the chance but have to work for it — and the top recruits are looking for immediate and significant playing time, this year we have X and Gallo in the backcourt, even if someone might displace Gallo this year ( no one is displacing X), Gallo’s gonna play a ton, as he should.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
HoosierHoopster replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Lol Woodson - humble :) and yeah that voice - not a college “kid” — Barry White? -
Kenpom is next to useless at this point pre-season. Kenpom stats and predictions only come into line as season builds

Sampson had some great takent to work with, but definitely one of the best DI coaches out there. No accident what he’s done with Houston. If only he cared about NCAA rules and academics
-
Undefeated, IU now the only team to go the distance undefeated— twice!

PU is overrated, and really because of Frankenstein returning (as I said bf the draft, he’s not an NBA player). Thing is we are thin at guard. Need X and Gallo to stay healthy. I like Cupps upside and think he’ll earn minutes, and will bring solid pg play. But yeah, we’re thin in the backcourt and with guys who have injury history. Still think we surprise this season

That's where I am. For me it's impossible to pick IU's B1G standing now with so many unknowns. We have the talent, athleticism, size, shooting, and both guard and frontcourt experience to be a dangerous team. On the other hand, we're thin at guard, we have backcourt guys who play physical games and get injured, we're an injury or two away from falling fast, we have a potential lotto-first round player from whom we really don't know what to expect, and 'pieces' who we haven't even seen play together. I'm a glass half full guy, and think we're going to end up a good team, but where in the pack, no idea at this point.

All-Time IU “If They Hadn’t Been Hurt” Team
HoosierHoopster replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Don’t know how I forgot that ACL, yeah he could have had a monster soph season -
Good to hear

Edey stubs his big toe, out multiple games, PU craters and finishes dead last. @Stuhoo has to take of leave of absence having injured a rib from laughing so hard at PU. Outside of that, good breakdown :)

On Bako -- shooting can't be overrated in the NBA, every team wants a player with size and length who can drill shots, the comment on worry about his athleticims? Meh

All-Time IU “If They Hadn’t Been Hurt” Team

Mo -- Very much agree with including Mo Creek as everyone is doing, that kid had so much scoring ability and it was just taken from him. He's my #1, both because he's absolutely in my top 5 no matter who I pick, but also for how that first knee injury came right after his frosh point explosion and was so clearly highway robbery of his ability. Big time outlier - EJ. Gordon was phenomenal for us, and maybe can't include him just because of his record-setting scoring at IU, but the what if came after his wrist injury in February or so IIRC -- he couldn't shoot the 3 after that injury, really about half the season and we lost in the NCAA tourney in part because of it. His NBA career was marred for many years with repeat injuries. He's still a great player, really a testament to his overcoming the injuries -- but man, an injury-free EJ through the tourney? I mean we were 24-4 before Sampsongate. Pat Graham. What a force of nature. If only. Turner I'll say Romeo. I don't know if he had the motor, but the talent was next level. -
Come on man — he’s actually 12! :)

(2021) C Logan Duncomb to IU, to Winthrop
HoosierHoopster replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That’s too bad, sometimes the body just doesn’t hold up, but basketball’s just a game. Good luck to him, get that degree and enjoy college -
Yeah it looks like we kind of caved to get the IU-UK series back on, but we all know it also reflect Cal's continuing fear of playing in AH. What a ******. And then won't it be funny if we beat UK there?

First, thank God no one has said Macarena!!! Going to throw in a few that aren’t my favs but absolutely listened to them back in the HS / college days - in no particular order - Jump Around - House of Pain - In a Big Country- Big Country, such great, catchy song - Wipe Out - The Surfaris - Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band - O Oh Child - Five Stairsteps - Tainted Love - Soft Cell - Cars - Gary N - fed right into early 80s synth, and my freshman year in HS — in the same vein, how about - Turning Japanese - the Vapors - Play that Funky Music! - Wild Cherry Love My Sharona, love it … but … the lyrics … oh man, he wrote it for a 17 year old girl… lol — and then they had, appropriately lol, Good Girls Dont

(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
HoosierHoopster replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm really looking forward to seeing how much Malik has improved over the summer -- staying cautiously optimistic since CMW played up Tamar last summer, but with a reshaped physique and a summer of work, yeah I'm pretty stoked! -

HoosierHoopster replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Lol you’re killing me with the smarmy stuff. What you can’t have a convo now without acting smarmy? Come on man, that’s tired. Malik struggled with fouling from day 1. He improved during the year but still had a ways to go. Out of shape, for the season? I didn’t see it that way, I saw a big man with great timing and footwork but who struggled in avoiding fouls. I’d bet on him this season, and hope so, his skill level is exceptional -
Deee Lite was a fun band, i had that CD, but they had a couple hits or well-played songs as I recall. Without looking it uo, think that was early 90s

(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
HoosierHoopster replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No, I don’t. You don’t think he’s worked heavily in practice and all season? “Interesting.” do you just post to be a contrarian? Lol man, you’re welcome to your opinions, but good grief on the endless contrarian routine and the “interesting” thing -
100%. Wasn't exactly fond of him as a PU player, but as an analyst / color commentator, he's outstanding
