Don’t worry, be happy. :) it’s one game, Bako is a legit 5-star killer shooter/scorer, he’ll get the college D figured out. You just can’t draw these kind of sweeping conclusions from 1 game, not to mention the very 1st actual D1 game.5-7 or so games in we’ll see how the lineups and players are shaping up, and that will still be early development. I can’t wait to see this team in mid January

The Ware we hoped we were getting is looking like he's hitting the ground running. With CMW pushing his effort level on both ends and with his own recognition of what went wrong for him at Oregon .... Lots of reason for optimism, and I remember (IIRC) he scored close to 20 against MSU last year, and almost had a double double. Talent is all there.

There is some (not a great deal, some) comparison to a frosh Watford. He was criticized by some posters (HSN) as "soft," some idiot insisted on calling him "Cookies," because he couldn't finish in traffic at the rim and couldn't defend well on the perimeter. Look how that worked out. Crean wasn't a great x's and o's coach, but he/his staff developed players well. Wat became a strong defender, often defended across the floor including guards, etc. He was a '4' but clearly a scorer 'on the wing' / perimeter. I see Bako as a guy who will be a "college wing" when he gets the defensive schemes and positioning down. End of the day it doesn't really matter what label we put on him, other than the typical board back and forth, but this guy is an elite shooter / scorer, absolutely should be and will start.

Not surprisingly, I couldn't disagree with you more. This is one game, Bako is an elite 5-star scorer, he'll get the D figured out. Gallo had a horrible opening game, you of course don't judge a guy on one game, and we know what Gallo can do, and that Gallo showed up in this game. Bako will start, and he should.

Going to push back a bit as I don't really understand the hard line distinction here. Bako can shoot the skin off the ball, and is an athletic 6'8 5-star scorer. If utilized as a '4' he should be played like Watford was. Obviously not at all like the convo on Geronimo, like "he wants to be?" Coach was talking about growing the outside game early summer, now recently he sounds more like he's staying with a front-line offensive approach, and we're clearly not shooting the number of 3's we should be. Bako has a ways to go on D, and we know that's a line CMW tends to draw in the sand (though what about Malik's perimeter D last night?). Not meaning a rant here, but Bako can absolutely be a wing in college ball, and would be on many college teams.

Heck of a lot closer than I thought it would be, but — - seeing Gallo step up is a good step ahead - it’s a good wake you call and tough test against a veteran team that will pay dividends going forward

Yeah I listened to a long piece on it on NPR yesterday. Interesting, a lot of collaboration went into it. Not a great song but that’s not really the point.

Yoko had the tape that made this possible. Makes me remember a kind if cool moment for me. High school about ‘81. This girl in English class thinks she’s going to give me a hard time. She says she saw this weird guy on SNL that reminded her of me. She says - George Harrison. I was like no way! Loved the Beatles back then and Harrison was always my favorite. Ruined her day- lol.

This is the point -- it's not our shooting percentage from outside, we have players that can hit well from outside and looking at one exhibition game to think otherwise is pointless -- it's a question of volume. The staff's recruiting included outside shooting and Bako absolutely can shoot, along with X and Gallo and Cups. Last season we once again shot by volume at the bottom of the B1G. That has to change for the team to be what it can be, and we're assuming what the staff is saying, and recruiting for, means we'll see that spread O with more outside shooting. Can't take too much away from 1 exhibition. But yes, we absolutely should be shooting more, a good 15 a game, that spreads the floor.
