The current rumor (if you can call it that) from Rabby - he says it's his opinion and just that... only his opinion - that Sisley returns + maybe Dorn and Andrej. The rest transfer. I think we may hear something later this week on that front. No info, just speculating

Hubert Davis put out a statement. The usual stuff. Then says his goal is to coach again in the very near future.

Not unusual for assistant coaches to move around often while they're trying to grow their careers and networks. He got great experience with Kelsey from CofC to Louisville. Now he has an opportunity to get paid presumably more and do the same thing at Indiana. A lateral move can set him up well for his next opportunity if he contributes to success at IU.

UNC fans don't seem to have a ton of faith in their athletic department at the moment. The guy responsible for Bellichick has stepped down from the board but doesn't seem like a lot of fans are confident in their "process" at the moment. They are factoring in the need to buy him out (maybe that's premature) lol. Also have long term concerns about the fact their football program lacks support. Some more alarmist fans calling it an existential threat to their basketball program... Going to be a very interesting carousel with Kansas also possibly hiring

IMO no shot with any of these guys except Byington.

Luckily, money and playing time are two of the three biggest parts of the equation for most players. I think you can see a pretty good pitch for guards between Javon Small and Wilkerson / the green light from 3. I think the pitch for a C is all about how that was the missing piece on this years team and the difference between making or missing the tournament. Then you just need to find guys willing to buy that pitch. Easier said than done. But that's where the money should help. The premier players will almost certainly want more of a sure thing. But there's no shortage of talented players who would buy those pitches IMO. Just have to scout them correctly.

Paying for 2 top of the line studs and filling the rest of the roster with "minimum" types sounds an awful lot like what Rutgers did with Harper and Ace Bailey. Even if one of the 2 is a big guy, no thanks.

They definitely should be given guidance from programs to not respond to stuff on social media. Some may oblige, but a lot wouldn't. Nature of the beast in today's world IMO. Flip side of your last line... "my son's about to be a freakin NBA lotto pick. These fools don't know what they're talking about." It's just not productive for anyone even if it feels good for fans to complain and feels good for people associated with the program to tell them they don't have a clue. In the end it's just a bunch of people yelling at each other lol

Our rumored new assistant Thomas Carr is very connected with Team Loaded so probably worth keeping an eye on any of their former players

Thomas Carr came with Kelsey from Charleston to UL. Two interesting bits from his UL bio: Carr helped Kelsey recruit an entirely new team in 2024-25, returning no scholarship players from the previous season. Chucky Hepburn earned All-ACC First Team honors while also being named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and an AP Honorable Mention All-American. Terrence Edwards Jr. picked up Third Team All-ACC honors. The Cardinals were one of the most improved teams in the country both in total wins from the previous season and in NET ranking from the end of 2023-24 to the end of 2024-25. Carr came to Charleston after serving for two years as Athletics Director at national high school powerhouse Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C. During that time, he also connected with numerous coaching staffs across the country as Scouting Director of Your Fourth Assistant, while also working as Director of Team Loaded NC, one of the premier AAU programs in the country

This is literally writing him off lol. Not many mental gymnastics required to believe a second year D1 coach headed to the S16 with a core he built at lower levels will continue succeeding over his career. Much easier to see Iowa basketball succeeding than Indiana basketball succeeding right now. You can actually still watch them play this season and compete for a title haha. I'd love Bo Ryan or Tony Bennett's brand of basketball in Bloomington. Anywho I'm content to table it for now and we can wait to find out who has a better career when it's all said and done.

I am not saying he will replicate his D2 success at this level. I'm saying it's silly to act like his success is all because Stirtz is so good, as if A) he didn't find Stirtz B) he didn't develop Stirtz C) he now has better resources at Iowa than he did at the D2 school where he first found Stirtz. He's got a great pitch for his kind of player... has a 4 star big from Washington committed in the 2026 class. You give him 3 and 4 star talent, I fail to see why he wouldn't win at a high level when he's currently playing in the second weekend with a bunch of 0 stars. I'm saying, it's way easier for me to picture McCollum winning at a high level at Iowa than it is for me to picture DDV winning at a high level at Indiana. It currently doesn't require much imagination to see what a good Ben McCollum team looks like.

Maybe Huss would like a head coach in waiting on staff... lol

It's not true that he needs to find an underrated guy every year and turn him into an NBA talent. Not even close... lol. He's got a long enough coaching history before Stirtz to suggest he can coach a roster without NBA talent into playing winning basketball. His recruiting at Iowa will be better than it was at the D2 level. He can develop players and get more out of less recruited players. Absolutely nothing to suggest this is his ceiling as a coach. Takes a lot of mental gymnastics IMO to write off another first year coach for his style of play when he's the one going to the second weekend with an unheralded team. We tried to do that. Just couldn't.

Iowa is much more likely to have a preseason T25 team than Indiana next year

Totally fair! I just didn't see much from DeVries this year to make me more optimistic about what he can do at Indiana vs what McCollum can do at Iowa. We were even worse in conference and down the stretch. We have a financial advantage. I don't see much from a basketball POV that leads me to believe DDV is a better coach than McCollum or will become one. Not to get hung up on those two... just bummed seeing how big the gap looks right now.

I don't think it's an either / or proposition where those are the only two choices. This group showed they were capable to win more games by beating Purdue, UCLA and Wisconsin. They weren't consistent enough and DDV didn't put them in position to succeed often enough. Contrasting that with how McCollum had basically total control against Florida when everyone expected them to get run off the court and you can see there's a long way to go on the coaching front too, not just roster. I generally try to be optimistic this early in a coach's tenure but the late season crash and burn was tough when the bubble was begging for us to play our way in. Just had to beat NW. Once... doesn't mean the improvements won't happen, but does mean I'm tired of speculating and hoping. I wanna see it. Hopefully we do next year.

How anybody can feel optimistic about our program after watching McCollum this year is beyond me. Writing them off once Stirtz leaves is a huge miscalculation IMO. He already found and developed that type of player in D2, odds seem pretty good that Stirtz won't be the last player he develops into a stud. McCollum is playing chess out there and we are tossing the ball around the top of the arc waiting for someone to chuck a late shot clock 3 lol. There's for sure improvements needed beyond roster construction. That's got to be painfully clear given how we finished. Talent needs to be upgraded too... and then the coaching has to be better. I'll feel better if / when we land a compelling group in the portal.

Maybe we can pay him to be special advisor to the HC lol
