  1. So Phinisee didn’t play point guard? Was that Durham? Or did Smith not play the 3 but Durham did? Durham play in his 2 spot basically all season, outside of the few games he was starting with Franklin. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  2. Those might be the most god awful definitions of anything in basketball. Is James Harden all of a sudden a slasher? No. Harden is a playmaker and a scorer. He’s not a slasher. I don’t know where you found those definitions, but those people don’t need to be explaining basketball to anybody. That’s just trying to make an incredibly easy game(on paper) too complex. 3. How has Durham played out of position? He played the 2 almost exclusively all season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  4. I fond it crazy how we spent last season featuring Brunk so often on offense. Like he was a role player off the bench the season before on a crappy Butler team, comes to Indiana and starts every single game. He was also our worst FT shooter at 44.6%, just behind De’Ron Davis’ 45.5%. This team just will not reach its potential with Brunk on the floor with TJD. Hopefully Thompson is working on his 3point shooting because TJD needs his space down low. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  5. Yet Durham continued be a crappy decision maker and Smith never got better at shooting. Consistency from both never got any better. What they did was natural progress with more experience and bigger roles. Which pretty much every player ever will do. You can just watch by how they play, they weren’t any different of players from Sophomore to Junior year. Unfortunately, Durham and Smith hit their peaks under Archie. Smith showed some flashes of what we needed from him. Timely blocks and steals, great defense, offensive rebounder. Durham showed some flashes of being a steady guard that was really like a poor mans Rob Johnson. Durhams problem is he didn’t show up against the best team we played consistently enough but feasted on the crappy teams we played. Smith was a little more consistent. His problem was consistency within a game from commercial to commercial. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  6. Slashing is done without the ball. Slashing with the ball is called driving. Reggie wasn’t a slasher. He was a shooter and great off the ball. Steph Curry is the same way. Kyle Korver is great at it as well. That’s just simple basketball knowledge. Smith didn’t need to ever really dribble outside of maybe have to put the ball on floor for a couple bounces. But he was never going to be used as a slasher under Archie like he would have under Crean. People an hate on Crean all they want, but I can guarantee the lane would have been way more open for Smith to find space. Crean was just a better offensive mind than Archie. Archie just isn’t creative on that end of the floor like he might be on the defensive side. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  7. Yup, Morgan got better. Thompson got healthy. Durham really hasn’t gotten any better. Smith didn’t get any better. McSwain didn’t get better. TJD didn’t get any better last season. Hunter got healthy. Phinisee hasn’t gotten any better. Brunk got worse over the season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  8. What does Reggie Miller have to do with being a slashing 3/4? And slashing literally nothing to do with dribbling. Basically what Troy Williams did on offense half the time(backcuts, finding lanes and space as guards drove into the lane). That’s what Smiths role is. That’s why Crean recruited him. 9. And part of that comes in on Archie. 1. No one has really developed any under him. 2. Putting your foot down and saying we’re doing this for the team to win. Smith works as a 3 if he buys into being what he does best. Slashing and defending. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  10. You’re really not understanding the problem. Archie’s offense always had 2-3 people in the lane. Smith has nowhere to go. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  11. You’re joking on the, “**** off,” thing right? Because Smith didn’t say it with any malicious intent. Just teammates messing with each other. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. Definitely a record for a recruit that may never end up with an offer from IU. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  13. I’ll have the same feeling for Durham leaving as I do Smith. Once a Hoosier, always a Hoosier. But it’ll probably make us better. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  14. Slashers do tend to shoot near the rim. They aren’t slashing for 3’s. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  15. I’m fine with him leaving. I’m excited to see Hunter and Thompson playing more of the 4 and Brunk being on the bench more(hopefully). But blaming a player because a coach refused to put him in any position to succeed is ridiculous. That’s Archie’s job. That’s how coaches win games. Archie screwed that kid last season. 16. The problem is you want to blame him even though he was consistently put into a position to fail and still turned out being our 2nd best player. Yet don’t want to blame anyone else. All season it was stick up for Durham and Brunk for their shortcomings but throw Smith and Green under the bus. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  17. So 4’s can’t play from the perimeter now? Since when? So Troy Williams was what his freshman year? What was Oladipo his Freshman and Sophomore year? Since you have to be able to shoot to be a wing now. Smooth is a wing. He’s a not a post player. His best fit is indeed diving to the rim(which was impossible in Archie’s offense) and doing that from the perimeter. Along with being a great wing defender. 18. He can be useful as a 3 but it depends who the 4 and 5 are. But you’re trying to blame Smith, who was easily our 2nd best player for things he can’t control. He had to stand out on the 3 point line and just stand there. There wasn’t any room to slash. Archie hurt him. It’s up to the coach to put players in a position to succeed. Archie did the exact opposite. Yet he was still our 2nd best player. Maybe you should be questioning Archie more and be wondering how much better Smith could have been had Archie played to his strengths. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  19. Dodging the questions see. And whose decision was it to put Brunk, TJD and Smith into the game together? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  20. So if if TJD and Brunk are in the game. Brunk is posting up. TJD is setting a screen and rolling to the rim and Brunk is still posting up. Phinisee is driving towards Brunk. Justin Smith is supposed to do what? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  21. You’re not out creating your own shot as a slasher. You’re reacting to space given and going off screens, backcuts, back doors and the like. He didn’t have that space in Archie’s offense. There was no space in the paint because there were always 2 others standing down there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  22. But shot 36% from 3. Shot 25% from 2. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  23. As a slasher and defender that plays the passing lanes. Archie used him as just a dude standing around. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  24. Another team might actually be able to use him correctly. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  25. Depends where he goes. He goes to Illinois, he will be going to the NCAAT next season and could actually flourish there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
