I kind of refuse to believe their were that many trolls. I mean Kent Sterling was saying on the radio that he was in contact with former IU basketball players and they were all under the impression they got their guy, which was Billy D. Such a strange event.

How was that rumor of Billy D not squashed sooner?

Going to the game tomorrow. First Iu game since going to the Rutgers game last year. Last year we didn’t even look like we were trying. Hoping for a different result. Last Iu games I’ve been to: Rutgers last year at RU, Duke the year before, Big10 vs Rutgers, Louisville in Indianapolis, eastern Washington a few Years ago. Louisville in MSG. All losses. I remember saying that I wasn’t sure if Holtmann was good at butler because of the afterglow of Stevens, or if he was the real deal and the only way to know was through an interview. I remember stating his name as well as others to explore. There was a podcast with a CBB expert. Can’t remember who. But he said that in March of 17 there were or at least should of been 3 realistic candidates. Holtmann, Mack, and Archie. He said he thought Mack would be the best at IU, Followed by Holtmann and then Archie. Anyone on the board have inside info on if Holtmann was vetted? Or the process of why we landed on Archie? They lost to FSU in a quasi home game for FSU, by 3 in overtime, their team is figuring it out still after losing some pieces from last year.

I'm not saying that the wins mean nothing. It's more of these wins could be a little bit of fools gold for some. We've not really been tested yet, so lets wait and see what happens when we play a real team. I'm also not going to complain if we lose to a good team. I'm basing it on how the team plays.

Beating those teams doesn't mean we're going to win the Big 10, or even make it past the first weekend, or even make the tournament. I'm just patiently waiting to see how the season plays out. I have been vocal that I'd rather have Chris Beard, but that doesn't mean I don't want us to win. If Archie wins a Natl Championship, I'd be so happy. I complained about the uniforms a few years ago when our players were rolling out their shorts because they were too big/long. I made the comment that a program with total awareness would/should have capitalized and changed the shorts, maybe even made a funny campaign with it. Fred Glass released his standardized uniforms a few years ago which puts handcuffs on the creativity of the basketball program when it comes to designing uniforms.He's the one that forced football to remove the names on the back.I believe it was his idea to put the stars on the shorts. Its like he's a restaurant owner and he's not letting his head chef's have any ownership of the menu. I still think there's some dysfunction in the Athletic Department. I think Fred has a smug attitude and the reality of the programs he's running is different from his perception of it. Although I think he's improved from 10 years ago, he's had to learn on the job and I still don't think he really knows what he's doing. The fact that he hired a consulting firm to tell him whether or not selling beer at football games was a good idea, was beyond me. How about he just walk through the tailgate before the game, or go to any NFL game, etc. Don't understand why he had to pay someone to say this was a good idea. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Fred's changed, but TBD. I really like Tom Allen now and was wrong about him. But I was cautiously optimistic with him as well and I'll get behind and support him 100%. I do think that we have lots of momentum going forward in football. Basketball is different because unless archie makes a deep tournament run this year or next, i'd be ready to move on, but only for Chris Beard.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Florida state can’t score over 70 against any good teams. Again as I’ve said all along, I’d take Chris beard even if Archie wins 20 games this year. I’m giving Archie 4-5 years total and I’m counting his first year as year 1. I’m not upset we are winning, but at the moment we’ve won one game that should hold up come selection Sunday. Wisconsin is not good this year, neither is ND or UConn. So even if we win all those, we haven’t really proven anything. Let’s see how we hold up against Michigan, mich state, OSU, Purdue, etc before we say this season is a success. As far as the uniforms and drop ceilings. This is the safe space thread for complaining. I think our uniforms are bad. I came to this thread to say that. No vendetta. We still haven’t played a road game. Wisconsin is not any good this year. Let’s see how we do against a good team on the road. I’ve put a figurative asterisk on most of my posts that I’m giving Archie time to prove himself, and until he does, I’m skeptical. I've mentioned this in the past, but good lord our uniforms are atrocious. After watching Ohio State vs NC and Lou vs Mich. I can't help but notice that their uniform tops match their bottoms. They look fantastic, especially Ohio State's uni's last light. Ours are bizarre. I did read Freddie's initiative where he designed all the uniforms, he really learns how to delegate.

The general trend of the program is more positive than its last three 18-16, 16-15 and 19-16 record seasons. But that's comparing IU in a vacuum to the final year of Crean and two bad Archie Years. Its like being the best looking person in a room full of lepers, it doesn't hold much weight.. You need to compare them to the peer group. You clearly have never done any sort of analysis before. If you had ever done so you would be comparing your Archie Stock to the entire market. Specifically, look at precedent transactions of coaches such as Mack and Holtmann to get a micro viewpoint, and then expand further to consider all NCAA division 1 coaches for a macro look. Chris Holtmann took over at OSU where they missed the tournament in 15-16 (NIT) and 16-17 (No Postseason) Mack took over at Louisville from an Interim David Padgett who made it to the NIT, and he coaches in the ACC Chris Beard took over a program that went to 1 NCAA tournament in its last 11 years. How is Archie's situation any different than those around him? But hey... Archie is poised to do better than missing the tournament, so by that measure, he's clearly better than the others.

I hear what you are saying. My point is, when compared to Holtmann and Mack, he’s not looking good at this point in time. I’ll give him a pass on year one, but last year I firmly believe we under achieved, regardless of the circumstances. If and IF we miss the tournament again, I’d be ready to move on if we could get Chris Beard. I don’t want a CTC thing to happen where we make the S16 and everyone loses their minds. I worry that Archie could be similar in the sense that our teams are 1 dimensional and under achieve in the long term. Missing the tournament 3 seasons in a row is pretty bad. I'm giving a pass on year one. Year two we had a play in game against OSU and lost (at home if i'm not mistaken) if we miss in year 3, then what is the barometer for year 4? making the tournament? Lets pretend in a hypothetical world where we miss the tournament for the 3rd year in a row under Archie, and lets pretend buyouts are not an issue, What would you all do?
