IUBB vs Purdue: 2/25 @7:30 on FOX
HoosierInParadise replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Probably too much to ask but if PU loses their next two, NW loses 1 more, and we win at home......we share the title. Sent from my SM-F936U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
If Archie would have started off as well as Holtmann did, I would imagine that IU foolishly would have extended him in the same manner. Sent from my SM-F936U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

I thought the same thing. Announcing what they announced just baits that into happening. I would totally do that at Mackey. Would be worth being kicked out. I have never directly helped IU win a game....that would for sure be my only chance[emoji4] Sent from my SM-F936U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

This team can still be good but I am tired of the "we just gotta keep working" comments they all deliver in the press conferences. How about saying "I'm tired of losing and this team should be tired of losing too. We need to start winning and it needs to happen vs. PSU."? Yes, we have to keep working but I want to hear that this team HATES to lose. I'm not getting that "hate to lose" vibe.... Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

I agree, which is exactly why Illinois, Indiana, Michigan Iowa, and others that want to play uptempo shouldn't cater to it throughout the conference season. The teams that play uptempo and have success will see the fruits of doing so in their recruiting and tournament runs. I want IU to get up and down the floor and score points. Can someone let those other teams know that it is ok for the winner to have 80+ points and the loser to have 70? Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

Rutgers and Wisconsin are perfect examples of why the Big Ten hasn't won a title in 22 years. The slow plodding games where the officiating lets the teams beat on each other does nothing to help recruiting or tournament chances. The conference as a whole does not get the top recruits because the reputation the conference has is easy to recruit against. I will take losses to Rutgers and Wisconsin each year if it means we don't play their style once we get to the tournament. Most of the other conference teams are starting to play up-tempo, so I am hoping the perception of the conference changes soon. Just my thoughts on it and why I really don't care if our losses come from playing a crappy style of basketball that doesn't bode well for a deep run in March. Early in the season....we weren't going undefeated. Maybe a loss on the road will keep the team humble and working hard. Nothing get a team's attention more than a loss. I am hoping they come out focused the next few games and put together another string of Ws. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

The problem for me is that I've bought into the legendary stories about Kopp being a 90% 3 point shooter from Northwestern. Every time it leaves his hands I get Jordan Hulls vibes and when it klanks off the rim I'm left with a feeling of extreme disappointment. He probably make his 90 percent in practice, is a vocal leader veteran, and works his butt off. I'm sure that's how he earns his min. Just wish he'd produce more in games. I feel that it's less hate in him and more disappointment with expectations in his production. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

I do agree with you that it's not worth it to do it. I just don't like where this mentality has brought sports in general. Everyone is so stinking sensitive these days. It used to be called gamesmanship. When stuff like the brawl at the palace happens, it changes sports and how they are officiated and handled. I don't like it, but it is the condition of what we have today. I prefer to let the kids play through it, but if they are going to call it, it's best to stay away from doing it. The techs were garbage. I work with high school students on a daily basis, and so many of them worry about this person or that person looking at them or saying things to them. I try to teach them not to listen to it or to not let themselves be bothered by it. This is without the heat of competition involved. Add that in, and I can see why the refs want to try to curb it. But my opinion sits where these players are not robots, and taunting/trash talk is part of sports. The players need to learn how to handle it without the refs affecting the game. It was not called consistently and Xavier (the team) could stare down whoever they wanted. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BtownBanners mobile app
