I may need to buy 4 tickets to the Jackson State game next Tuesday. It's been 18 years since I have bought tickets to a game and am wanting to take my kids for the first time. Watched the game again....looked pretty good for the first 26 min, Race got his 4th foul, lost concentration on both ends for the next 10 min or so, then finished the game off for the win. I feel like the team didn't play with any concentration the last 4 years, so only having a 10 min lapse is a huge improvement right? I was stating that more to highlight the mental battles he overcame to become a good shooter than to say that he was always a sharp shooter who struggled at times. I didn't specify that in my post. Some players on this team (RP to name one) struggle with their confidence of "in game" shooting. I like having Fife and that he knows how to overcome a struggle like that. Could we use his build and skill set? Of course...but I want players that WANT to be at IU. If he doesn't want to be here then we move on and go find someone that will work their tail off and is sold out for IU. Just like the coaching search, we got someone that is all about IU!! I get it. Emotions drive a lot of opinions in sports. There is part of me that would never want LeBron James on the Pacers because I don't particularly care for him. However, if he ever did play for the Pacers I would be all in and I wouldn't particularly care if they had to trade one of my favorite players to get him. I want the best players on my teams that play their hardest a d give us the best chance to win....regardless of what their past was like or how I view them as a person. I'm not sure why there is so much negative talk about Brooks. He obviously came out of high school as a highly regarded talent. Why couldn't his college career just be a "fit" situation? Much like Justin Smith. Justin seemed to thrive at his new school. If Brooks is available and wants to come and Woodson sees how he would contribute to winning...you take him and make it work. No one would have cared one bit when Archie was struggling to win if he would have taken a Brooks type player and pushed someone else out of it potentially meant more wins. What if Stevens would have taken the last 4 years off? Would people want him now? What if Andrew Luck wanted to come out of retirement? Would teams want to pick him up? I don't think Matta has forgotten how to coach.
