I thought we were in line to get Mick Cronin? Should we go back to talking about him? -

I feel like Cronin's agent is a huge IU fan and likes to post on this board. I have never heard more pumping up of a more mediocre candidate than Cronin....while also being so dismissive of every other candidate as bring "unrealistic". The only people that know if a coach is realistic or not is their respective agents and families. -

Hopefully he went to make sure the buyout check cleared into the bank account so he can head to the golf course for the rest of the season... -

I can't imagine he will end up coaching out the rest of the season. It makes it especially difficult if he is disgruntled. I just can't imagine letting a disgruntled employee continue working for the organization once it's been decided by the employer they aren't coming back. (I won't say fired to spare everyone an additional argument about the definition of that word again). I hope that leadership does the right thing today and ensures that he has coached his last game. -

Not that it matters or is even worth the back and forth but when someone is being fired from their job, which is the term everyone on here has been using, they are being "let go" or "relieved of their duties". Regardless of how that is accomplished, if is coming from pressure or forcing from the employers side, and is not solely the employee's decision, then they are being fired. -

Hmmmmm....everywhere I have worked, if someone was forced to resign, they were being fired...regardless of how many more days they were on the payroll. -

It does give off the perception of weakness and indecision. Strong, decisive leadership is hard, but in these times, it is necessary to ensure the values of the institution/programs are upheld. At the end of the day, expectations have not been met by a long shot. It's really not that hard of a conversation in this case. Legally I'm sure there is a lot to button up, but it shouldn't be that difficult to look at him and say "the performance of the program has not met the expectations of the university, admin, and fans. You are the leader of that program. You are being relieved of your duties." -

I suppose he could be cleaning his stuff out of the locker rooms, offices, etc. if today is his last day. -

Man...I'm beginning to think that not even Brad Stevens can unite this fan base. We people can't even agree that there might actually be a chance you get him....geez. I'm wondering if some will actually be disappointed at the press conference when he is announced as the coach. To me, my day to day life doesn't change regardless who is hired so who care about the potential of being disappointed again? I am excited to have Brad freaking Stevens as the head coach of IU!! -

You can probably tell, but I am one of those guys that believes wholeheartedly that I will win the lottery when I buy a ticket. What I don't do is think about how I might when the silly mediocre level of $1 million. I believe I'm going to win with whole thing...the big one! I'll do the same with this coaching search. I'm going to believe every rumor that is placed on this board, but not at the mediocre level...no way! I will be believing the rumors about Brad freaking Stevens! It is way more fun than thinking about any other candidate! McCollum? Definitely $1 million lottery level..at the end of the day, I'll take it, but it's not what I'm dreaming of up until the drawing.... -

I can understand your points, and they are all valid. However, I feel that by not moving on from him, every time he shows mediocrity and/or poor performance, and nothing about his future is addressed, it is communicating that it is acceptable. This is what I feel continues to damage the brand. When IU hires the next coach, it will be interesting if high expectations are talked about in the press conference....because right now, those high expectations are not being showing in the lack of communication with how this will end. I think they need to announce that he will be done at seasons end regardless of his feelings on it. If he doesn't like it and walks away before that, so be it.... -

I still don't understand how an organization can have so many data points to make a decision to move on from someone but just doesn't do it. I don't think it would be too far-fetched for a large company to move on from a top executive or administrator on a project if they were showing signs of not producing or damaging the brand. I can't imagine that company waiting until the end of the project to let the person go. If it's moving in the wrong direction, why let it go downstream even more? -

Wouldn't it be crazy if everyone with info was right? Hear me out in this scenario: - SD and MW have a meeting after the Illinois game drama and SD asks MW if there is any scenario where he walks away before the end of the season. - MW replies with a response that includes potentially health issues and/or push back from fans and media gets to be too much. - SD tells MW that he needs to prepare for that potential midseason departure so he will need to have meetings with the assistant coaches to figure out who would be the interim. - No timetable is given and firing MW never is discussed, but a plan is put in place if he walks away. - No one has said that they have heard that he will be fired mid-season, only that a plan is in place if it needs to be executed. To me, this outlines it to where everyone giving sourced information is telling the truth....can we all just get along now? -

True...which is why Woodson just needs to go immediately. I don't really care who takes over in the interim.
