I just heard on the radio that Nike is now part of the investigation. Kinda wonder though - they kept this quiet for months and now stuff is coming out hourly. I guess other people are involved now, so who knows what is true.

I totally agree, but it seems to be the way things go now. A few weeks ago when the NCAA came out and said they were thinking about allowing football and basketball players to transfer without sitting out a year, all the talking heads said how that is the way it should be and how wrong it is to make them sit out. Well, I guess if that is the way it's heading, why shouldn't coaches be constantly looking for transfers and/or upgrades. You can't live in a vacuum and hope your program won't be affected. I personally don't like it, but it seems to be where it's heading.

It leads to things like 6-10 guys leading the break (and getting their pockets picked) and 5-11 guys guarding a center. At the end of the day, you're just not putting guys in a position to succeed. From everything I've heard and read, CAM knows exactly the types of players he is looking for and what their specific roles will be. They will be put in a position to succeed, and in turn, have fewer TO's, defensive lapses, and better understanding of exactly what they need to do to help the team be successful.

I'm not as concerned as many are if this ends up being a 7 person class. From everything I've heard and read, Arch has a plan and he's sticking to it. He knows what type of players he's looking for and what those roles will be. This is far from the shotgun recruiting approach we have seen in the past. He is bringing in a foundation class to build on over the coming years. Also, the chance that all 7 players end up leaving at the same time is pretty slim. There's a good chance one or two of the players already committed blows up and leaves after 2-3 years. If we hold the remaining scholarships for 1-2 year guys, it all works out.

I look for them to bounce back this week. They aren't facing a D-line with 5 first round picks, so I see the running game come around to some level of respectability and also having a little more time to pass. It's probably a close game, but it wouldn't shock me to see them win by a couple TD's. I don't think the importance of this game is lost on anyone on the team.

I guess it's just part of the game today, but I hate having to anticipate/hope for a player to leave or transfer so that you have the scholarships available that you want. I think at least Archie will have more of a plan so that we aren't over-signing by 2-3 players every year. A guy like Romeo, you have to assume is a one year player, but I certainly don't like the idea of forcing players out every year. I also get that there is some transition here and maybe certain players aren't going to like how they are being used, PT, etc. I would just like to leave the Creaning firmly in our rearview.

I really like the looks of that team going into 2019. That's a really solid base to add a couple of 5 stars.

I've been wondering the same - which side is waffling. My feeling (based on nothing other than that) is that he has been told that he can commit at any time, but they still may take another PG if that opportunity presents itself.

The job security for a coach like that is approximately 9 years ;)

Seriously, you're not missing much. I got so tired of it I excused myself. I think the one that sent me over the edge had something to do with players making excuses. This from the master of veiled excuses...

This would have made perfect sense if Ron Burgandy would have said it.

Just based on the players CAM is recruiting, I get the feeling his ideal roster is a couple PG's, a couple 5's, and a lot of multi-skilled guys in the 6-4 to 6-8 range.

I'm not sold on Clif Marshall yet. I guess I need to see him fanatically running around on the sidelines before I really know we have a good strength coach.

Probably strictly talent-wise. That doesn't necessarily convert to the best team though.

Don't forget, as bad as last year was, we were expected and had the talent to be much better than we were. Yes, we lost a lot of talent, but as has already been stated, we are not exactly starting over. There is plenty of talent and experience on this roster. Are we a top 25 team? Maybe, maybe not. I think we are a team that lurks around in that area where we get into the poll, but maybe hang around at the bottom and are in and out as the season progresses. I think we make the tournament, but I'm not expecting to make a lot of noise. If you look at the talent we had last year and we didn't even make the tourney, that alone is improvement. I certainly don't expect that guys are going to undo years of bad habits immediately, but progress is really what we are looking for this year. Personally, I'm looking for a team that I can easily see is much better in March than November or December.

I don't want this thread to turn into a Crean bashing thread, but it is kind of crazy that Anderson said Crean never even sniffed in his direction. You've got a top 100 player from the state, and he would rather go out and scour small Texas towns for "hidden gems." Can you imagine the frenzied helter-skelter recruiting TC would be carrying out right now if he was our coach and had 5 scholly's next year? He'd have 200 offers out there (but no point guard).
