(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati
goonaha replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'd say the staff contacting him 5 times a week and telling him they're going to have somebody at every single one of his games in July qualifies as "prioritizing". -

Q&A posted by ITH: http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/06/26/q-2018-point-guard-robert-phinisee-updates-recruitment/ On whether there’s anything new recruiting wise: “Not really. Ohio State, I’m gonna visit them Monday, so that’s all right now.” On whether Ohio State was involved prior to the coaching change in Columbus: “Yeah they were. I was gonna visit them sometime in June. With the coaching change, I’m still just gonna visit. Nothing’s really changed that much.” On the contact level from the IU coaching staff: “Oh yea, it’s a lot. Probably, maybe five times a week. Coach (Bruiser) Flint and coach (Archie) Miller. It’s pretty frequent.” On a timetable to cut his list: “I’d say definitely after July, the live period. Maybe sometime in August or September, so I’ll see how things are.” On the schools expressing the most interest besides Indiana: “Purdue — the Butler coaching staff hasn’t reached out to me yet — but Virginia, and Ohio State, are pretty frequent.” On if he plans to take official visits beginning in the fall: “Yeah, after July I’m gonna talk with my mom and see if any new schools are in, see what we can do and see where I’ll set my five officials.” On how much Indiana will watch him in July: “They say they’re gonna try to have somebody at my game, every single game in July. We’ll see how it goes.” On what he wants to get out of the next couple of months: “Really just improving my game. Keep getting in the weight room, keep getting stronger and just doing everything so I can be ready for the next level.” On the message from the IU coaching staff: “They say (Josh) Newkirk, that’s their only pure point. Then they have the 2017 class coming in. They want a guard in 2018 to come in and run the team. That’s their message.” On what schools he’s visited multiple times besides Indiana: “Purdue, Butler multiple times, and then Ohio State, I went to a game this season, and then Xavier and Louisville.” On what he likes about Virginia: “Just the coaching staff. When I went and visited them — I visited them in October — just the coaching staff, I know they’re a great program, been one of the top teams in the ACC the last two or three years. I have a good relationship with coach (Tony) Bennett and coach (Brad) Soderberg, so I like them a lot.” On what he’ll be looking for in a school: “If I do go far away from home, how comfortable I am with the players, the coaching staff and just everybody around the basketball program. Just player development, and just really, making me a better person.” On what his conversations with the IU coaching staff are like: “Mostly about basketball, but it’s really just building a relationship. Seeing how I am as a kid, that’s what they want to see, so if I do go there, they know how good of a kid I am. Just really building a relationship. That’s the main thing.” -
The Duke game is scheduled for Wednesday November 29th.

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

Oh they definitely are just making educated guesses. It was more in jest because it seems like any article where a recruit talks about Indiana, we still don't get mentioned as one of the leaders at the end. -

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
goonaha replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Four-star 6-foot-8 power forward Trayce Jackson-Davis of Center Grove talks with Peegs.com about Indiana, which offer him a scholarship today after a strong showing in the Archie Miller team camp. After a strong showing in the Archie Miller Indiana team camp today, Trayce Jackson-Davis earned an IU scholarship offer. The 6-foot-8, 215-pound class of 2019 power forward from Center Grove (IN) High School played very well in three games at the camp. Afterward, Jackson-Davis and his parents spent time with Miller and the IU coaching staff and he received the IU scholarship offer. “They said they want to recruit guys in state, and that’s really big. Just building a relationship with them. When then time comes, they’ll definitely be on the radar,” he said. Team camp was the second visit to IU for Jackson-Davis, whose team played games both in Assembly Hall and Cook Hall. He made an unofficial visit a couple weeks back. “I like it,” he said of IU. “I haven’t been to a game in a while. I’m going to come to a few this year, see how the atmosphere is. I’ve heard it’s really good. “They seem really interested in me. Me and coach Miller talk every day. That’s going to play a big part in our relationship when I choose. They’re definitely on the radar.” As a freshman, he worked mainly on interior moves. He has been adding perimeter, ball handling and mid-range skills to that, and as a sophomore this past season helped coach Zach Hahn’s team win a sectional and reach the Johnson County Tournament title game. “I’m still working on my outside game, as you can tell,” Jackson-Davis said. “Coach wants me to be able to catch at the key, rip and make a play, but I’m still focusing on my post moves, too. I can always get better at that.” During the Archie Miller team camp, Jackson-Davis showed how much he has improved, even since his sophomore year concluded. Jackson-Davis had two strong moves inside that he finished with powerful dunks. He made mid-range jumpers. He’s a very good athlete with speed, quickness and outstanding agility for his size. He can handle the ball very well for his size, including in the open court at speed. On one play, he caught a pass just past midcourt, put the ball on the floor, made a move and finished between defenders. He also had a number of zip passes to teammates for open shots. He also had another play where, following a steal, he went coast to coast on the dribble and finished between two defenders at the rim. “I thought I played well in certain spots in the first game, but there is always still room for improvement,” Jackson-Davis said. “I need to finish my layups better. I know I had a few missed ones and came up on long on a couple then I dunked it. I need to finish the first one. “I liked how I drove the ball, kicked it to open teammates in the second game. I started off pretty hot then slowed down. I need to stay hot and have that motor going at all times.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Thomas Bryant - Cleveland Cavaliers
goonaha replied to HoosierHoops1's topic in Hoosiers in the Pros
Noah Vonleh is still only 21 years old. He already has three years of NBA experience. For perspective, Cody Zeller was 21 years old his rookie season in Charlotte. Like Noah, Thomas came into college as an extremely young freshman. They both have plenty of time to develop into capable role players in the NBA. -

1.) I didn't attempt to measure the impact. I merely said it's not a good look, which is pretty indisputable. 2.) If you do want me to measure it, I would say it is impactful. IUBB twitter has 946,000 followers on Twitter, the most of any college basketball program. IUBB Facebook has 330,000 followers. So people do see this. Of course, how fans act on social media is not, and probably never will be, the major deciding factor for a kid, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good look. I just wish adults would act like adults online, but that's kinda a broader issue in our society right now. -

Because IU fans are generally pretty crazy and turn on players quickly. Our online fanbase is pretty hostile. Hell, anytime the IUBB Facebook page posts a video of the guys in the weight room, you have some old dude in the comments criticizing them for not being in the gym instead (as if they don't do both). I agree that it's not a good look for recruiting and I try to remind people of that on Twitter but the old school guys don't get it. -

(2018) G/F Damezi Anderson to Detroit Mercy
goonaha replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Four-star class of 2018 wing Damezi Anderson made an unofficial visit to Indiana today and received a scholarship offer. The 6-foot-5 scorer from South Bend (IN) Riley High School and the Meanstreets AAU program spent time with IU coach Archie Miller and his staff, and received a scholarship offer from Miller. “It’s a blessing to get an offer from there,” Anderson told Peegs.com. “I really enjoyed it. It’s a great coaching staff. “It’s a whole new staff. They were amazing to me. They’re cool.” Anderson is a four-star prospect currently ranked No. 82 nationally in the Scout.com 2018 player rankings. Anderson received a tour of campus, including Assembly Hall, Cook Hall and other places. “They’ve got a lot of new stuff there for academics,” Anderson said, also mentioning new things like IU revamped basketball weight room and more. “They showed me all of that. That was amazing. There’s a lot of brand new stuff there.” Anderson has been very productive as a shooter and scorer on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Meanstreets program. The IU coaches discussed what they like and can do for Anderson. “They said I can really score the ball at well and I’ve got great size,” Anderson said. “They said they can develop me and get me to the next level. “They talked about some of the guys that got drafted and stuff like that.” IU sophomore forward OG Anunoby and sophomore center Thomas Bryant both were NBA draft picks Thursday night. Anderson has a number of scholarship offers, including Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, DePaul and others. “I think Indiana is very serous. I talked to coach Miller,” Anderson said. “Michigan and Purdue and also DePaul.” Anderson said he may also take an unofficial visit to Xavier. He said he still plans to make official visits before making a decision, but nothing is set in that regard just yet and he doesn’t have a specific timetable for his decision. ??? This comparison feels off base. Roy has attempted a whopping 24 threes in 9 years. Thomas is not exactly quick, but he definitely isn't Roy level slow. -

He only follows 9 recruits (plus Keion Brooks' mom). I don't think an Archie follow is insignificant. At the very least, it's an indicator of priority recruits. -
