  1. Damezi made the classic "University of Indiana" mixup but I'll forgive him. I'm sure he was just a little excited typing all of that out and had a momentary lapse.
  2. I'd point to Ethan Happ as an example of how a red shirt can be successfully used in basketball.
  3. Because practicing against Davis, Morgan, and Hartman for a year and training with Coach Marshall is way more beneficial than another year of Minnesota high school basketball. He'll have a Big 10 ready body after the redshirt and a year of learning Archie's system.
  4. Hopefully Race can get to work on recruiting Matt Hurt for '19.
  5. Feels great to have the first commit on the board.
  6. Looks like he's leaning back on his right leg whereas Christian is standing straight with both feet even.
  7. I believe Christian is getting married today. I saw Jordy Hulls and Oladipo in Trendon's Instagram story. Never a bad thing for Trendon to be spending the day with some IU legends . Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  8. Scout edited the article for the Indiana x2 typo: "Which schools do you feel like have really prioritized you to some capacity?Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Duke I’m open right now." Indiana still listed first if we want to read those tea leaves.
  9. Picked up a Crystal Ball to IU late last night. Also, an update with Brian Snow: For Romeo Langford it has been extremely busy summer filled with new experiences. Not only has he traveled as a part of the adidas Gauntlet with Twenty-Two Vision, but also he has had a pair of global experiences. Langford was first in Europe before going to Egypt as a part of USA Basketball. About the trip to Egypt, Langford said, "It was different, but it was fun. It was good to be overseas, and they spoke more English there, then when I was in Europe for the Adidas trip. We were always surrounded by security guards and things like that so it was a unique experience." Five-star guard Romeo Langford emerged in a big way as a sophomore, and since then he has done nothing to slow down. He has good size at around 6-foot-4, and is a tremendous athlete. Also he is a good jump shooter who is capable of getting to the rim. A quiet kid by nature, Langford could be more assertive on the court, but that is nitpicking his game. Langford has a tremendous track record of production, led his high school team to a state title, and he also still has big time upside with room to improve. While the USA team was upset by Canada and didn't come home with gold, Langford said it was a great learning experience. "It was real good," said Langford of the trip. "I got to play with a great group of guys. Playing against guys who were already in college and going against them in practice as well was great." With offers from schools such as Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and others, Langford is at the center of a big time recruiting battle. One of the unique things about the trip to Egypt was Langford had a chanced to be coached by Kentucky boss John Calipari. About the experience of getting to know Calipari and his coaching style, Langford said, "It was real good to get to know a coach like that. To be able to see what it would like to play for him and how I would relate to a coach before ever getting to college was good." When it comes to his recruitment, Langford is in no hurry to make any choice. Currently his dad handles most of the recruiting calls from coaches, and Langford would like to make several more visits before getting too serious about making a decision. "I will cut my list down to about seven after AAU season and make some unofficial visits before I go on my official visits after that," noted Langford. Look for Langford to have an extended recruiting process as things stand now, and for many visits to happen before a decision is made.
  10. Evan Daniels: How do you think you have been playing? Matthew Hurt: I think I’ve been playing well. Just trying to lead my team to a championship is all I’m doing right now. I think I have performed pretty well so far. When you’re at your best what’re you doing? I’m slashing, I’m getting to the rim, I can finish, I can shoot the ball, just trying to do a little bit of everything, defense too. What’s next in your development? Just try to get stronger and get faster. If you’re 6-9, strong and built then I think you’ll be pretty dominant. What about recruiting, how’s that whole process going? It’s going good so far. What’s been the best pitch to you so far? Have you been hearing from coaches? Not really, they’ve been sending me some edits. Their fan base, their facilities and stuff like that. Which schools do you feel like have really prioritized you to some capacity? Indiana, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, I’m open right now. Where all have you been unofficially? Only Kansas and I’ve been up to Minnestoa and went to Wisconsin last year, and I’m going to go to UCLA in August. Is that the only visit you have set up? Yeah, we’re taking our family vacation out in LA so it’s only because we’re there. What’s the draw to stay home with Minnesota? My brother played there so it’s pretty high up there and their program is changing a lot. They’re a great program and Pitino is changing the culture. How would you rate today’s performance? I didn’t play my best, I can improve a lot of things but today definitely wasn’t my best so I’m going to try to bounce back. How is Indiana making you feel like a priority? Telling me that I’m their guy and texting me almost every day, “what’s up? How are you?” and stuff like that. They want me to go there and that I’m the type they love to have in their program. 11. Not really new news but Anderson is still planning on deciding after July. IU, Purdue, Michigan, UConn, Depaul.
  12. SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Four-star 6-foot-8 power forward Race Thompson today updated the schools in serious contention for him as well as his timetable. The No. 71 player in the nation in the 2018 class, Thompson, from Robbinsdale (Minn.) High School and the D1 Minnesota AAU program, said his decision could come at any time but won’t be any later than shortly after AAU ends. “As for my timetable, sometime in August. That’s the plan, but pretty much as soon as I know where I want to go, I’ll commit,” Thompson told Peegs.com today. “I haven’t figured that out just yet. It’ll be in August at the latest.” Thompson said he’s basically down to three schools. “Iowa State, Indiana and Minnesota are the three really pushing,” he said. Thompson has been on campus at each of those three schools. His most recent visit was an official to Indiana. “They talked about what I would be doing there, and I really liked that,” Thompson said. “They have nice facilities, great coaches, a great coaching staff. I like them a lot. “They’re showing me a lot of attention, making me a priority.” Among the things that stood out to Thompson was Indiana’s Assembly Hall, which routinely draws 17,000-plus for games. “They said it gets rocking in there. It’s pretty much right on top of you. It’s up there with some of the best college atmospheres.” Thompson, the son of Minnesota football great Darrell Thompson, said a big key for him is how he feels he’ll fit in with a college and its basketball program. “I want to feel at home mostly. I want it to be a family atmosphere. I don’t want to go somewhere where everybody doesn’t talk to each other,” Thompson said. “I want it to be a happy place, a place I feel at home where I can be myself and play my game.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  13. I very much like the vibe that giving quotes like the following to the hometown paper gives off: “It was an official just because it was easier,” Thompson said. “I wasn’t going to take an unofficial and then come back again and take an official. So we just changed it. … That campus is a really nice campus. Good school. Great facilities. I like the new coaching staff a lot. Even with a new coach (Archie Miller) I think they’re still going to be a top team in the Big Ten. They’re pretty much always tough to beat and have some of the best fans in the country. I don’t think the culture will really change. Playing in front of that many people I don’t think you can’t (be excited).”
  14. Random but it seems like every NBA player from Indianapolis is starting his own AAU program (Gary Harris, Jeff Teague, Eric Gordon, George Hill) and that's diluting the quality of Indiana based teams. Feel like it used to be just Indiana Elite on the Adidas circuit and Spiece Indy Heat on the EYBL circuit and they were both super competitive with tons of talent each year.
  15. He didn't publish that graphic. Some other account did and he told a reporter it wasn't his list.
  16. I'm really pulling for Troy to pull it all together. He has all the tools to be a very good NBA player for a long time. If he can keep getting that 3 point shot more consistent and limit the turnovers, watch out. Good Troy was so much fun to watch at IU.
  17. Absolutely nothing to do with Indiana (yet), but I thought this was a good enough thread to put it in. Shammond Williams resigned from his assistant job at Western Kentucky. He is the godfather of McD All American center Mitchell Robinson and a big part of why Robinson signed at WKU (along with $tansbury). Jeff Goodman tweeted this: I have no idea if he would get released from an NLI or if Archie would want to get involved with the baggage that a $tainsbury recruit might bring. Thought I'd share it regardless because it could potentially be the last opportunity to add an impact big next year. And it's an interesting story.
  18. The new staff is still involved. Westtown 6-foot-9 power forward Jake Forrester has over 15 major conference offers and is beginning to figure out a recruitment that includes schools from all over the country. “I’m hearing the most from Notre Dame, South Carolina, Providence, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Seton Hall, Virginia, there is a lot,” Jake told GI. Forrester told ZagsBlog a few weeks ago that “Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Miami, VCU, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, South Carolina and Temple were some of the schools recruiting him the hardest. Clearly the young man has several options and keeping the long list memorized is tough. Another step that Jake is taking with his recruitment is visits. Jake has traveled to Seton Hall, Pitt, South Carolina, and Penn State so far. Forrester has also been talking to the Gophers some. “Yes, I have been hearing from Minnesota, they have been in contact as well,” Jake said. “And Arizona State and Temple.” Jake has consistently said that he plans to take visits this summer and mentioned to Zags Blog “I’m going to cut (my list) down after Peach Jam for sure, 100 percent.” In the meantime he has big goals to accomplish in July in addition to cutting his list. “I'm hoping to accomplish getting into the top 50 this July (individual rankings) and also I'm looking forward to winning Peach Jam!” Big goals for an explosive four man with a lot going on. 19. Pretty cool quote from Victor today during his introductory media duties: "IU became a part of me," Oladipo said. The newest Indiana Pacer — coach Nate McMillan said today that Oladipo will start at shooting guard — Oladipo discussed the impact IU had on him, what he feels his next steps will be as a player and more. "Without Jordan Hulls, I wouldn't have been the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft. I tell people that to this day," Oladipo said, later adding about their shooting contests: "I used to have nightmares because I couldn't beat him." Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  20. I think this article helps us put the early recruiting misses in perspective. While we have missed on a few prospects in Johns, Bazley, and Swider, Archie did do very well to retain the entire 2017 recruiting class. Holtmann and Underwood can't say the same. Success in 2018 will come. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  21. Took an official visit to Michigan this weekend, which indicates that his recruitment is moving quickly. Hopefully IU can get him back on campus for an official ASAP.
  22. When it comes to players who are just starting to see their potential, Jerome Hunter is in that category. A football player as a youngster, Hunter started to zero in on basketball a little later, missed some time in high school and now is just starting to show flashes of what he can become. The 6-foot-7 forward from Pickerington (Ohio) North High School and the Nova Village AAU program now is a four-star prospect, ranked No. 61 nationally in the 2018 class. Hunter this past weekend played in the Archie Miller Indiana team camp and landed a scholarship offer from Miller. Hunter was joined on the trip by his mother and other family. His team played games in Assembly Hall and Cook Hall. “He was impressed. I’m impressed,” Pickerington North coach Jason Bates told peegs.com. “This was our first time here. The campus is beautiful. “The arena has that feel to it that a lot of schools don’t have. They’re renovated and brand new, but they don’t have that feel that this one has. “I know he’s impressed. I know his mom is impressed. I know his family is impressed.” Hunter has a number of scholarship offers with schools such as Michigan, Ohio State, Xavier and Pittsburgh in the mix with Indiana. Miller, while the head coach at Dayton, was one of the first coaches to offer a scholarship to Hunter. “That was one we got last year at his team camp in Dayton,” Bates said, updating the recent conversations Hunter and his family had with Miller at IU. “He talked about how he thought he would fit in his system. He’s very excited about hm. He’s been watching him over the years. “He’s a great guy. It was great just talking to him.” Peegs.com watched Hunter several times in June, including at the NBPA Top 100 camp and at the IU camp. Hunter started as an interior player but his game has expanded to make him a versatile forward. In one game at the IU team camp, Hunter made five 3-pointers in one half. “His ball handling has grown leaps and bounds, as has his decision-making with the basketball. His basketball IQ is growing,” Bates said. “He missed his freshman year pretty based on the time he transferred as a freshman, and we’ve kind of been playing catch-up since then, getting him ready, matching his talent with learning and developing. “Sometimes he’ll show you flashes of just unbelievable ability, then there are times you have to remember he’s still young. “He’s still learning, especially him going from playing mostly post as an eight grader and as a 10th grader being more of a post player a little bit still. Last year, he started moving out to the wing. Now he’s really playing as a wing.” “He’s always shot it pretty well. His post moves are phenomenal. His rebounding has always been great. Now it’s the ball handling, the decision making to make him a wing.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  23. Summer Q&A with Zach McRoberts: http://iuhoosiers.com/news/2017/6/29/mens-basketball-summer-q-a-zach-mcroberts.aspx What have the coaches told you about what your role will be with the team?"We are still working to define that role. But I am working every day to get better at whatever they ask me to do. That changes from day to day, but I'm just following Coach Miller's lead working on my game every day." What are some moments that stick out from last year?"I think it was a great experience to be part of the basketball team at IU and get some valuable minutes. I love being around the guys. That has been the best part of the experience, just being around everybody." What is your mindset when you are out on the court?"I think no matter what, I'm going to play hard when I'm out on the court. I just want to compete, play hard and try to make a difference. It doesn't matter what people think about me, I just want to make a difference any way I can." What are some of your goals for this offseason?"In the weight room, everyone just wants to get stronger and quicker. On the court, that can transfer to offense and defense. In terms of basketball, I just want to get more consistent and confident with my shot and that's been good so far. "I just want to build upon what I did last year and be more of a threat on offense and defense and rounding my game out." What has it meant to have Collin Hartman healthy and active in workouts this summer?"He has been here four years and having that experience of talking to guys and explaining things has been really good." What are you studying?"My major is Economics. I am on pace to graduate this year and then hopefully start a one or two year program with my fifth year here."
  24. https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/jerome-hunter-cuts-his-school-list-to-five Top 5: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Pitt, Xavier I am a fan of this timing. Announcing a top 5 right after getting an offer from IU this weekend.
  25. I have no idea what his hand skills are like, but Freddie seems like a candidate to be one of those college basketball players that NFL teams give a tryout to as a tight end. He's built like a truck and can jump.
