LaVall Jordan has hired Michigan's (and former Sampson assistant) Jeff Meyer as an assistant coach at Butler. http://butlersports.com/news/2017/6/20/mens-basketball-jeff-meyer-returns-to-the-butlermbb-sidelines-as-an-assistant-coach.aspx

Not a Pacers fan so I do not have any emotional involvement in this. Sorry in advance if I piss anybody off, but: 1.) Why does anybody think PG leaving has anything to do with the fans? 2.) Why do people think that him outright saying he's leaving in a year change anything about the situation? His desire to leave Indy and return to LA has been apparent for a long time. Other GM's knew this, so it's not like the trade market this year has been negatively affected by PG's announcement. His value was always going to be as a one year rental before the announcement, and that value hasn't changed post announcement. 3.) Related to the last point, why isn't the ire of Pacers fans directed at the front office/ownership and not PG? They could have, and should have, traded him last last year for a ton of assets to rebuild?

Frankly I am stunned that every Kentucky player and every high school player made the cut. It's almost like there's ulterior motives at play here. -
IU Basketball 2017 Recruiting Class

I am curious myself. IU still hasn't updated the roster on the official site. Does anyone remember when it got updated last summer for the 16-17 squad? -
To add to the trade rumor drama, Dan Gilbert just announced that the Cavs are not extending David Griffin as GM. And Woj is reporting that Chauncey Billups (!) will be a candidate.

(2019) PF Matthew Hurt to Duke
goonaha replied to goonaha's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Sounds like Archie and Ostrom are recruiting him hard. Hurt has some very positive quotes in here: Indiana coach Archie Miller and assistant Tom Ostrom have been familiar with five-star class of 2019 forward Matthew Hurt for a while. While they were at Dayton, Miller and Ostrom recruited McKinley Wright, one of Hurt’s teammates with the D1 Minnesota AAU program. Now at Indiana, Miller and Ostrom have jumped in full bore in recruiting Hurt, a very skilled 6-foot-8 forward ranked No. 6 nationally in the 2019 class. Hurt, from John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn., received an IU scholarship offer on April 26, and the coaching staff has been in regular contact with the Hurt family, with an unofficial visit to IU tentatively planned for August. “I came home from practice, and my dad was like, ‘I just got off the phone with the head coach and they offered you,’” Hurt said at the NBPA Top 100 camp, recalling IU's offer. “My dad said the assistant has been talking to him every day. They’re trying to send a message and I appreciate it. “They have great culture. They have great players coming to Indiana. They just got a new coach, one of the best coaches in the nation. It’s a great culture, a great community.” A major national-level prospect, Hurt has plenty of recruiting interest with offers from Minnesota, Indiana, North Carolina, Louisville, Kansas, Arizona, Oregon, Virginia, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa State and others. Hurt was one of the players IU contacted on June 15, the first day college coaches can reach out directly to 2019 prospects. Indiana is recruiting both Hurt and 6-foot-8, 225-pound four-star power forward Race Thompson, teammates on D1 Minnesota. Ostrom grew up in Minnesota, is a University of Minnesota graduate and has strong ties in the area. Hurt and Thompson had looked at visiting Indiana after an earlier midwest event. “Me and Race were going to go down after that tournament. I think we’re going to go down in late August,” Hurt said. While not a big-time athlete at this stage of his development, Hurt has top-level skill as a shooter. He has terrific form on his jumper, keeps it high and has a high release that makes it difficult to defend. Hurt missed much of the spring AAU season with a broken hand but returned at the end of May. He said he is still getting his conditioning and shooting back. Playing in this week’s NBPA Top 100 camp, Peegs.com had the chance to watch him in person over several days. He showed how skilled he is as a shooter from all around the arc and mid range, even though he’s only a short time removed from the hand injury. Hurt said he recently weighed 208 pounds and wants to get to 220. “My strengths are I can shoot the ball. I can stretch the floor. I can handle the ball if they need me to. My weaknesses are I need to get stronger, get faster. I’m trying to get in the weight room a lot, trying to get quicker,” Hurt said. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Notes from his media scrum interview at NBPA Camp today: Brooks Sr. and Schilling are keeping in touch. Archie is communicating directly with Jr. Really likes IU now; didn't have a relationship with previous staff Archie is coming in "hard and strong"; addressed changing the relationship he had with the old staff; making him a priority Likes the direction IU and Archie are going Still really likes MSU as well Noted UCLA as a new challenger in his recruitment; took an unofficial after the EYBL session in LA -
Indiana reached out to Cole Anthony last night. I know the previous staff, particularly Chuck Martin, watched him a lot and showed interest early. 5 star point guard out of New York; son of Greg Anthony. This is the first time I have seen any talk of the new IU staff restarting the recruitment.

A new 2018 guard to keep an eye on. David Duke out of Massachusetts. Looks like Bruiser Flint is working his East Coast connections on this one. 6'3" / 170 lbs. No scholarship offer from IU yet, but has been offered by a lot of good East Coast programs. Ranked #63 on 247 composite. From Scout: CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Four-star combo guard David Duke continues to be one of the more intriguing guards on the East Coast, and remains active in the recruiting process. Four-star combo guard David Duke has seen his stock explode over the last nine months. Duke, who starred for the Mass Rivals in the spring, has picked up numerous offers, and is just now beginning to take a long look at the schools high on his list. About his spring, Duke said, "I think I played well this spring. We didn’t lose any games in the Gauntlet. I have definitely worked hard on my shooting and my ball handling, and just getting my teammates involved and communicating more." On the recruiting trail schools such as Villanova, Providence, Indiana, Kansas, Florida, Virginia, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech have all made Duke a top target. David Duke is one of the faster rising members of the 2018 class. He has terrific athleticism and shows a good feel for the game from the point guard position. In college he should be a tremendous defender because of his lateral movement, length, and quick twitch athleticism. On the offensive end he shows the ability to make shots, though that can be inconsistent, and is an excellent passer who can set up teammates. Duke likely will play point guard, but also should be comfortable off the ball. His upside is tremendous, now it is a matter of putting all of his physical tools together and being consistently dominant game to game. Locally the Friars have been extremely active recruiting Duke, and continue to try and land him as well as AAU teammate A.J. Reeves. "They definitely think that we could win together and that it’d be a great thing to keep the local guys home, so that is basically what they say," said Duke of Providence. Another school that has been extremely active recruiting Duke is Villanova. The Wildcats are looking to add a guard or two to this class, and Duke is one of their top targets. "They tell me that I fit their playing style and that I can come in and play right away," noted Duke. "Also they like that I play both offense and defense, and things like that." A school that could get a visit from Duke in August is Florida, and the Gators remain in very close contact with him. "I definitely like Florida," noted Duke. "I am in contact with Coach (Darris) Nichols and Mike White a lot. They are as involved in my recruitment as any school." Also the Indiana Hoosiers have started to really pick up the interest in Duke, and he has been in consistent contact with the new coaching staff in Bloomington. "They just talked to me recently," said Duke. "Coach (Bruiser) Flint and Coach (Archie) Miller are talking to me, and remain very interested. They want to be in that final category with all of those schools." For now Duke says he is in no hurry to make a commitment, and that he remains open in the process. "I’m just completely open right now," said Duke. "Probably by the end of the summer I will be cutting down my list and putting it out." He continued, "I am looking at playing style and if it fits me, and also relationship with the coaches and how my parents feel about them. Just basically it is wherever fits me the best." Langford and Garland are both in Europe for Adidas EuroCamp. Rabjohns is reporting from the NBPA Camp in Virginia so it's probably not either of them. Has to be King and one of the 2019 kids unless I'm missing something. Wiseman and Brooks are both in Virginia so they are possibilities.

I'm assuming Louis King is one of them.

These quotes made me a fan of Johns' mother and make me feel pretty good about getting him out of Michigan. From Peegs: Indiana hosted four-star forward Brandon Johns and his family for an unofficial visit over the weekend. The 6-foot-8 class of 2018 forward from East Lansing, Mich., has been on a steady rise this spring with the Spiece Indy Heat AAU program, and is currently ranked No. 100 nationally in his class. Indiana coach Archie Miller and his assistants watched the Indy Heat program during both of the live evaluation periods in April, and things have been steadily heating up with Johns and the Hoosiers. “It was a very good visit,” Havilah Johns, Brandon’s mom, told Peegs.com. “They were very well prepared for us, which I’m sure most programs are. We met the entire staff. They all greeted they knew all four of our names. It’s nice to see details like that. “It was nice to see how much they are concerned about their student athletes, not just as athletes but as people and well-rounded humans when they leave campus. “Academically, we saw how sound they are, how good of hands Brandon would be in if he attended school there. I like the direction they’re going with their basketball program. “I’m more of an academic person. I played basketball myself, but as an athlete, I feel it’s important to be a better student and better person.” (SEE RELATED: Spring scouting video: Brandon Johns) Johns has been on campus at Indiana, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State Indiana offered a scholarship on the visit. That gave Johns offers from Indiana, Illinois, Alabama, Xavier, Texas, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and others. Havilah Johns knows basketball. She played at the University of Buffalo and at Lansing Community College and coached at LCC for nine years before coaching overlapped too much with seeing her oldest son’s games. “Brandon’s very interested in Indiana. It’s certainly an option,” she said. “It’s always nice to receive an offer from a school. Anytime a kid gets the opportunity to play at a college, no matter what the level, it’s a blessing. We’ll see how things fan and sit down as a family and hash this out.” The IU campus in Bloomington, Ind, is around a four-and-a-half hour drive from East Lansing, but Havilah Johns said distance isn’t an issue. “Not at all. I just want Brandon to be happy wherever the best fit is, whether that takes him across the county or right next door,” she said. “There’s no place in this country we can’t get to, and it may do him some good to get out of here and see life outside of Michigan. He’s young. I’d be totally cool with him kind of spreading out.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
